And spoils the fkn movie, sorry but Edward Woodward was the only equaliser, them so called movies with denzel Washington had fuck all to do with the equaliser, everything america attempts to remake or redo turns to shit
@@etherashe5164 no, what he should have done was not take a role that he doesn't belong in. But god forbid someone use proper judgement when it comes to modern acting.😂
Gladiator was a movie that NEVER needed a sequel and was not supposed to have a sequel. The fact that Hollywood allow this to get made with an overblown budget of $300-million-plus when it was originally supposed to be a $120-million-dollar budget movie , this movie is doomed to fail. How are you gonna the top the "Are you not entertained?" line? lol
Yes I agreed, Gladiator didn’t really need a sequel, just like Indiana Jones, it should’ve ended after The Last Crusade, Star Wars should’ve ended after 6 movies (Revenge Of The Sith), the MCU also should’ve ended after Endgame, and Jaws also should’ve been a stand-alone movie
@@brysonfreeman7226revenge of the sith was garbage.... 💩👎👎... So what's the attack of the clones and phantom menace... Daisy Ridley revitalized the franchise if you don't realize that you're a jackwagon...!!! 😊
It's as laughable as a film coming from Korea or Japan based on the same historical time period with a black man playing the lead role. Denzel could have been great in so many other film options, but this?! What is wrong with Hollywood!?
@@mariacostello1976are you stupid on purpose? The Roman empire extended into North Africa. Rome had a North African emperor. You must be one of those conservatives that wants to change black history.
Thought this was a joke. The original Gladiator was criticised for historical inaccuracy because an extra accidentally forgot to take off his wrist watch... In this universe Denzel exists... 😂
The Romans were all really black anyway. Colonizers done stole their story. Incidentally, so were the Nords, the English, the Native Americans, the South Americans, the Pharoahs etc. Apparently 🙄
No. We are in clown world now. Zimmer/Gerrard was a different age,...another world,....another time,....in the Age of Wonders. (That's actually how the 1990's feel, at this point, since the whole world is so ridiculous these days.)
"Rome is not Kanye's territory" 😂. You people are funny. Ignoring THE REAL HISTORY of Rome. Before the Italian renaissance 😂. 😂😂😂 "not Kanye's territory".
@@broadwaybroad He should have a African accent to make it more belivable. No he talks like a typical yank. Awfull. This movie is gonna suck and it will be his fault. Money hungry....
well Russell Crowe had his very australian accent all the way in Gladiator I ; I don't see why Denzel just had to 'stop' being Denzel for this. I agree he still sounds too 'homie' for my taste; he could have employed better phonics to sound less like Alonzo and maybe more like Biko
Shot themselves in the foot calling it gladiator 2, call it anything else and just say it’s another big epic movie, let people make comparisons to other movies featuring that time period, but nah, now we gotta compare to that absolute masterpiece that came before it
weirdly, that's the one bit of the trailer that interested me. It's stupid as hell. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to seeing them fight a rhino
That’s not surprising. Maybe read more. A simple google search would tell you of an African Emperor. That’s the problem with you ppl. You don’t read enough, you only read things that affirm your skewed views.
yet you are just spiting toxicity to show that you are an old goat and still would buy your ticket .. just wait for the movie and then spit your venom anyway !
"You know what would go great with the trailer about Roman gladiator battling in the colosseum? Rap music!! Yes....definitely rap music, like every single other trailer music of every single other movie of the past 5 years" "Wow....that's an awesome idea! Let's do it! It fits perfectly with the theme and makes total sense" That's basically how the conversation went btw.
Wasn't just the song that killed that trailer - treats History like ... well, ... a Hollywood movie! Are you entertained ... no ... just shaking my head in disbelief (which is far from suspended)!
Denzel mustve got a huge paycheck, it's pathetic. Gladiator was pretty much perfect, but ofc they gotta try to shove some woke stuff in there. By the way, at that time, the biggest slave traders and slave owners were Africans, let's see how they integrate that into the movie.
@@m35926 I know everyone liked Deadpool 3 and Dune 2 but these films are unoriginal imo. They suffer from the same thing everything else suffers from in the modern world. The art of the film is superceded by the need to make a profit, and you can tell. Back when Ridley did the first gladiator it was the other way around, and woke culture didn't infect the films.
Denzel's character just feels like a new Proximo. If that's the case, they should have just cast Djimon Hounsou. The character arc of him being a slave and gladiator to winning his freedom and now becoming a merchant/trader looking to overthrow the entire system could have been the heart of the story. It would also mirror Proximo's own story.
Cool concept, and Denzel is the new Promixo… however that would’ve been out of character for Juba (Djimon Hounsou) had he been cast. After winning his freedom I doubt he would’ve followed in Proximo’s steps. Specially subjecting countless slaves to horrible deaths for a slight chance to overthrow the empire. I think Denzel’s character is just an opportunist who finds a chance to gain everything.
I'm pissed that I did not think about that.. I thought that Juba goes home and finds his family wiped out and becomes Denzel's character, but you are absolutely correct that under no circumstance would he become a slave master.. It needs Denzel.. @@MrAvila-fq5yt
its always a bad music choice, in every trailer these days, some classic rock song, or an upbeat 80s song sung in a quiet acapella. Its all just so bad.
@@frenchdoseinthelab566You mean the amazing genre defining music from the legendary Hans Zimmer. Yes that would be our first choice. This trash would be the last.
Some parts of Zimmer's score would have elevated the feel of this trailer. Why don't these marketing people understand this ? It's not rocket science. You put epic, bombastic music in a trailer for an epic to attract the core audience of such films. Man where is the time of The Lord of the Rings trailers that used the actual music of the films in a grandiose way. I honestly feel less inclined to watch Gladiator II now 🤨
@@travisrutters419899% of people not really lol. Haven’t seen anything about it except for in this comment section 😭😭😂 haven’t seen any of it on twitter or instagram or anywhere else
I love rap and hip-hop as much as the next but this trailer deserves epic music (Drums, Horns, Choir, etc.). To be honest, it was a little offputting. I hope they don't include that in the movie.
It's insane, the main actors alone are unbelievably expensive already and someone was like "yeah it's ancient rome, lets get some rap in there so it's buzzin fr fr no cap". Whoever paid for that should take a deep look in the mirror, because that was not a smart investment and it's not gonna pay off, at least I hope so.
They rebuilt the coliseum from the first film in Malta. It's basically the same setup in the same location with the same director as the first film. The biggest structural change that I see is that the director Ridley Scott is now the coproducer as well.
have you ever seen the show Spartacus? it took the concept from Gladiator and turned it up 100x. The dialog was actually older/poetic styled but the music was very modern in that show and it worked.
I actually didn't think this was real. I thought this was just a poorly assembled fan made video... So, to be sure, I google searched it. "Gladiator 2." "An upcoming historical film..." And oh my God, there it was. This really is an actual movie in the makes. 😂The music choices, Denzel's character speaking/laughing like Frank Lucas in American Gangster, the soundtrack at 2:00... things just don't fit. I like Denzel, but this seemed like a waste of a casting by him. They did him dirty. Hollywood and their exorbitant budgets. Producing films that end up flopping. It's why I usually prefer indie films and certain fan made stuff. That editing/transition at 0:43 was funny though.
Not used to seeing a Black Man Laughing in Ancient Times huh?.. 😂… this is nothing.. wait until you see Denzel in the “Hannibal Barca” movie coming out soon. Will make this film feel like an appetizer.
@@siguy715 Seriously jesus goddamn ducking christ (you can't even swear on youtube anymore hence the ducking) Your comment is what the person who put this song in this trailer ACTUALLY THOUGHT. "I think it fits, it says colisseum"
i have to admit....this did very little for me. Why studios think that mixing a rap song into something THIS epic was a great idea is beyond me. Tonally threw off the trailer completely. Epic music is required for an epic movie. The music alone ruined the trailer. This was not a good trailer, but I still have hope that the movie itself will be great
The score for Gladiator is so epic I could be in another room and know the scene its from. A sequel or prequel is always going to come across poorly against the original. I'll be definately giving it a watch still
@@elephantgrass631 Are you serious? The first Gladiator movie had Kid Rock’s music in the trailer. The ad ran during the Super Bowl and had no music related to the time period. Nobody cared then, why do they care now? I can guess…
Because that's how the world works now. Boycott everything that doesn't come directly from a filmmaker busting a gut to bring their own vision into the world (ironically Ridley in the 70-80s)
The reason the first movie was so impactful, was the fact that you could actually get lost in that world and truly believe you we’re looking into that prehistoric world. In between Denzel’s American a$$ accent and the sounds track you’ll be reminded very quickly your just watching a movie that’s attempting to have “tone” to it
I have no idea what you are smoking the original was in no way historically accurate or authentic. It was entertaining. Also the Roman Empire did not occur in prehistory obviously 😂
The original Gladiator was not totally historical - it was an Americanised fantasy world of Rome, don’t take it as gospel - the sequel appears to be another fantasy at the least but there are some aspects that already look more accurate and authentic, eg: The flooded arena floor to simulate naval battles Also, ancient history is NOT prehistory - prehistory specifically refers to a time period where we have no written records or evidence of writing - only the Regal Period of Rome fits this criteria
I think the original plot for Gladiator 2 involved Russell Crowe making a deal in the afterlife to come back to life provided he engaged in combat one more time. I think that plot probably was more plausible than adding in the rap music.
Whoever chose that song and then cut in that modern day Denzel "my dog" laugh. What the fuck were you thinking? Or maybe you were trying to warn us. I was actually taking in the trailer as I would any shitty movie trailer, but that moment made me have to pause and comment.
Django had rap in the film Marie Antoinette had post punk 80’s. It worked better than this though. This is every other similar rap Kanye west style song you hear. That’s why it’s bad.
Unless somebody went through a time warp, I'm going to need an explanation for how you have a crossbow in the Coliseum at least 800 years before it ever appears in Europe. Details matter.
I was confused by the "Rome must fall" line. Then I remembered that the death of Commodus lead to the year of the 5 emperors, the sack of Jerusalem and the rise of the Flavian dynasty.
