Also I dont think you can necessarily say koh is cashing in on gladiator since its literally the same director. I think R Scott just genuinely likes these historical epics. Also I probably prefer koh directors cut over gladiator but I realize I'm a minority in that opinion.
This is honestly one of my favourite films of all time. Amazing acting, sets and costumes. Everyone gave it there all, and it had such a real feeling to everything. I can't wait to see Gladdiator 2 butcher all that good will in a couple months
The historically accurate ending to the movie would’ve given us an alternate finale with Russel Crowe strangling Jaoquin Phoenix in a bathtub / roman jacuzzi. We missed out on a real steamy action scene 😂
Right before Maximus delivers the famous line. He takes off his helmet and he has a bit of helmet hair. His head goes off screen for a minute then comes back perfectly combed. When I was a kid watching this I always an imagines a guy just above the camera combing his hair back down before his hair was fully in the shot again. Something I will never not see and wanted to share
Making music, making movies, and fighting 'round the world. Is there anyone more Australian than Russel Crowe?? As an American who's never been there, I think yes!
Can we get a series of Gary Oldman movies since we're getting a series of Russell Crowe's work? You can show his wide range... Leon: The Professional, True Romance... And maybe Fifth Element?
Gladiators were pretty thick, they were intentionally fed a diet of basically fava bean slop so they had big layers of fat that could take more damage to prolong the fights and spectacal of it all
I love the idea that they had a vet on sight with tranquilizer darts for the tigers. As if that would do anything hahaha. It can take between 2 to 10 minutes, or even longer, for a tranquilizer to kick in. The tiger would need 10 seconds at most to cause some serious problems lol.
Fun fact about the soundtrack: when Han Zimmer heard *Austrailia’s own* Lisa Gerard and the music she was doing for the movie, he immediately threw away everything he had written for the score and rewrote it around her voice. Seriously, if you don’t know who Lisa is, or her long time band Dead Can Dance, you need to unfuck that right away!
I was hoping we would get the Rusty Crowe Exorcism movies. Yes, movies with an s. Rusty Crowe has two Exorcism movies. Released almost within a year of each other. And are not related at all!
Don't want to be that guy but I'm gonna be that guy. The marcomannic wars were a defensive war against a coalition of germanic tribes who invaded roman territory so Marcus Aurelius wasn't really an expansionist warmonger.
God, I hate the internet. Every conversation you get this guy coming in saying "myaah the marcomannic wars were a defensive war against a coalition of germanic tribes who invaded roman territory blah blah blah". Can't we just have ONE conversation without you sticking your nose in?
To be fair, killing Jesus isn't much of a task, let alone for an immortal demigod. Jesus is kind of notorious for being like "yeah, it's okay, just kill me bro. Do what you gotta do, no biggie".
10:06 this salute is the least problem of the movie in fas/naz regard. We also have: “strength and honor” call, brutal conquest justified as spreading civilization / ensuring peace, expectations for strong military leader to cut those soft politics bullshit with direct action, cult of tradition, awe for military power etc. We’ve seen that in Germany after WWI. In the same time the movie was seen as part of US propaganda which is telling. Sometimes I wonder if Scott is aware he’s channeling Lenie Riefenstahl with movies like this one or “Blackhawk Down”.
