I think that’s more Denzel just being Denzel. You don’t want the Macbeth version of Denzel here, Macbeth didn’t work for most. So here he has to show a little of his known personality, rulers back then I’m sure had their own flavor to their personalities.
Yeah trailers are ridiculous these days. It’s the first 2 acts spelled out in sequence, and spoilers for last act. I’d rather get just an ambiguous flavour of the thing
This looks like absolute dogsh*t. You can tell the scenes they've basically stolen from the original and tried to replicate. What a letdown. The accents sound horrific too.. Denzel with an American accent? Wtf were they thinking.
@@capical7585 this is Roman culture. A black actor is in it so they decided to be like some weird Roman version of training day? This is a disaster for paramount.
Not only that, the original Gladiator had some of the greatest actors of all time. Richard Harris, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Joaquim Phoenix... While Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington are pretty good, I don't think anyone would claim they're in the same league.
@@uchenna127 Okay, that's *one* actor of high calibre. Who else is there? Don't get me wrong, I liked Pedro Pascal in Game Of Thrones and The Mandalorian (even though he's only in a few episodes of the former and you hardly ever see his face in the latter; I'll admit I haven't watched The Last Of Us), but somehow I doubt he'll be able to give as magnetic a performance as Russell Crowe.
@@jamesgravil9162 Pedro has earned his stripes. He's a special talent. Why cling to the past, let the new actors show what they can do. After all, Russell and Phoenix were relatively unknown when they starred in Gladiator.
It feels like a mental illness, like it would be top on a list of things to certainly avoid. I want to be transported back in time, not faced with trashy modern garbage
Guys lets just go back to that original opening scene of the battle with the Germanic armys and accept that was the peak cinematic moment of the whole thing.
This trailers sums up Hollywood perfectly. First a sequel we didnt want or need, and to a film that 100% was a standalone story. The trailer itself is bloated. 3mins? (Bet the film will be 3hours plus) Far too much going on. Somersaulting away from a CGI Rhino… I am almost 99.9% sure that NONE of these characters/actors will get even remotely close to portraying performances as good as Russell, Joaquin, Oliver or Richard’s from the original. Also like the Force Awakens, this is just a soft reboot. Looks like it will be a Box Office Bomb, as I don’t suspect many people will be that interested in this…
I could take your comment more seriously if you hadn't said you were 99.9% certain that Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal would be unable to put in performances anywhere near as good Russell, Joaquin, Oliver or Richard's. I happen to think that 2 times oscar winner Denzel is a pretty good actor.
@@SandymoorFerrariClub TBF, you can think what you like. I am 99.9% sure they won’t get remotely close to the performances of the first film, mainly because I think this film will be shite, and will be a poor imitation of the first film (happy to be proven wrong, but I’m about 99.9% certain I won’t be). Nothing really do to with their individual talents of which I agree all involved in G2 are capable and good actors.
@@user-np9dv2yi2k I appreciate that (I think the 2 next to word Gladiator gave it away for me)… but it’s essentially looks like a beat for beat remake. Hence my point regarding TFA which was also a sequel but essentially a soft reboot.
Exactly - I was shocked by that usage of the music. Pandering to the lowest common denominator but I thought they would do better here. Obviously not. State of films these days - didn't Ridley Scott have any control over the trailer, good grief!
@@humayunhussain8249 Glad it's not just me. A score is so important to the overall feel and ambience of the film. Adding hiphop/rap is an abomination and could not be any further removed from the style of the film, absolutely bizarre.
I’m kind of surprised someone like Ridley Scott was up for this. It has the feel of “let’s all go back to Gladiator-land, we’ve got all the trimmings!”. Artistically, Gladiator didn’t need a sequel, so this just feels like the current trend of rehashing known-good films. People will watch it, sure, but it makes me sad. Mind you, “give the crowd a spectacle “ is literally from this film.
@@leethompson5635 Just a trailer for G L A D I A T O R !. Not just any Mr.Bean movie. And I know it just a trailer, thats why I said ruins everything in this “trailer”. 🙄
It just shows how much of a part music plays in the atmosphere and feeling of a film. The rap absolutely removes both from this. Poor choice - makes it laughable.
How did we go from the loyalty & thirst for revenge off Maximus, whilst Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard preform the score of a lifetime in the background to a kid fighting rhinos in the whilst Jay Z raps in the background with what feels like zero emotional attachment ?
Well that whole trailer was further evidence that gladiator didn’t need a sequel, and what’s with the music, gladiator had one of the best movie scores by zimmer
Of all the awesome gritty bloody dirty Roman themes and optics they could have played with. Frontier battles, disappearing legions, the goths and the huns, they went with a cgi rhino and a shark? I think I saw? Jesus.
@@owengibby Eh Pascal is a good actor but this just looks like another unnecessary soft reboot to me and also it feels a lot less grand and dramatic than the original which is strange after the standards Dune 2 set
Probably because they didn't want to remind people of Spencer Treat Clark and that the only reason they didn't bring him back was because they wanted a big actor for the lead.
Showing you the clear plot in the trailer tells me they ain't confident about what they have done, over compensating in any form is never a good option
Just doesn't feel right. Can't put my finger on what though.🤔 The protagonist is not good either, and that song... WTF! It's like a Marvel movie. Also, the trailer is too long feel like i watched the whole movie.
Well its 3 minutes and the original Gladiators extended edition had 171 minutes and 155 for the theatrical so if the second is anything like the first one then you have barely scratched the surface lol.
Absolutely went mad on BGM!!! Were they short of budget? Or trying to lure in GenZ???? The least they could’ve done was to keep it real, we are well aware that the original cannot be recreated but you must’ve kept that original essence of the movie and its story baseline. 😢😢😢
They better get some Tik Tok queens and LGBTXYZ people in there to rustle some more feathers. Don't forget to pluck out your eyes and deafen your ears before watching.
Denzel the American Macrinus being Denzel, and Jay-Z and Kanye West's hip-hop track No Church in the Wild. Only two of the original cast are returning. It's all rather bizarre.
Fear NOT!!! You Are Not Alone,! A Trailer Is Meant To Make Your Heart Beat Faster. A Palpable Lead Could Have Balanced-Out Denzel's Blatant American English & This TERRIBLE Trailer Music!!!!!
I had absolutely no idea what was going on and then… the rap began 🤦🏻♂️ I remember reading the bizarre planned sequel, I think Nick Cave wrote, where Maximus is resurrected from the dead and there was mention of a flooded colosseum with ships and sharks. So, minus Zombie Maximus, they’ve went there!
Watched 3 minutes and all the action bits of the movie, now I don't have to wait for November nor go to watch it 😂😂😂 when you make a trailer to leave them wanting more but leave out 10% of unseen action 😂😂😂
*Roma Aerterna* I actually learned Latin, studied and admire ancient Rome, and absolutely loved the original Gladiator. *What is this abomination of all that's holy, and where is Zimmer's incredible score (Elysium gets me every time)?!?!?*
Achshooally........ Romans teeth really were comparatively better than modern day. Most skeletons discovered from that era show very healthy teeth with little to no cavities. Probably due to a low sugar and high fibre diet.
Rap music and people riding rhinos into battle? Even the special effects look worse than the original. The things that made the first one so good was its realism and its score. Did they think people wouldnt watch it if the didnt include rap?
@@FigmentHF even the fact that someone is riding one is ridiculous. As if there wasn't enough real variation in the Roman colosseum games to put in a movie they make shit up. The siege scenes in that clip actually looked a lot worse than the Lord of the Rings which came out over 20 years ago.
Trailer music aside, which won't be in the movie, I'll reserve my judgement for when I see it. Unlike the so-called "fans" of the original on here, I won't condemn a movie based on a trailer. I'm sure though, the toxic fandom will unite to review bomb it when it comes out.
