Firstly, disgusting. This goddess looks better at 74 than I did at 23. Her rendition is up there with Whitney’s: pure, not a single note wrong, and she is one of the few singers who did not make this song about her singing but rather, respect for the National Anthem. Nonetheless, it was a sparkling, brilliant rendition that should make us grateful we have such a musician in our midst. God bless you, Miss Gladys! You made us proud!

To think that Midnight Train to Georgia hit number 1 in 1973 and Gladys Knight has been singing before the public since the early 1950s, it is simply amazing that she is able to maintain such a high standard after all of these years. She is an extremely intelligent singer and knows exactly how to sing on her capital while touching audiences of all ages. Its a voice that is timeless. As far as great performers go...yes....Whitney Houston did a great job and Soprano Renee Fleming delivered a performance with technical mastery that the general public probably has never heard before...but this isn't about any of them. This was about Gladys Knight who is no longer simply a singer, but a living legend.

When you see a celebrity, whom you've loved the whole of your life, have a moment like this, it's almost like seeing a member of your very own family, and it felt natural to swell with pride and share in her glory. That was my "Aunt Gladys" out there, tearing it up. At the end, I stood there clapping and hollering, until others got the hint that greatness should never be taken for granted, and joined in.
