YES, THEY ARE!! My grandfather Cholly Atkins did all choreography for the Pips and that's my uncle William @ the far end dancing his butt off!!! He currently has a book out....check it out!
Every video I come across she gets prettier. When she went solo I attended her concert; left to go to the bathroom; came back she was singing "love over board" and I just started dancing by the entryway. This guy started dancing with me and we where groovin'. I looked up and it was Buba. I said " hey Buba", he smiled and we kept dancing. Got a hug afterwards. I'll never forget that!
This has to be the funkiest shit I've ever seen in my life. My grandparents loved GKATP when I was a little boy.(and the OJays). Were the Pips steppin' this shit out or what?
I agree with you maryanng62! I was a kid in the 70s too. But remember that high quality acts were just the norm in those days. The crowds were a bit spoiled in that they expected this type of professional precision from everybody! They had James Brown, 4 Tops, Temptations, Jackson 5, etc., etc.
WOW! INTENSE! This always gets me excited. This is my theme song when I feel I need a good reason to keep on in the pandemic. Her singing and all the dancing are unbelievable.
I've seen Gladys and the pips just about all over the world. from New Jersey to London. And no matta in the world i seen them THEY WERE JUST F KING AMAZING
THIS MONTH IN MUSIC HISTORY 45 years ago this month (October 1973), Gladys Knight and the Pips released “Imagination” (#1 R&B album charts; #9 pop album charts). This was the group’s first album since switching from Motown to Buddha Records. It featured such tracks as “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination,” “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” “Where Peaceful Waters Flow,” and their Grammy award winning hit “Midnight Train to Georgia.” [10/06/2018]
This is my favorite GNTP song. There's something about this version- maybe it's the distorting bass- but it just *rocks so hard!* Thank you for posting this. I'm so inspired.
I've been trying to learn the dance moves of the Temptations, the Spinners, etc. since the 70s! Music and dancing and family are my reason for keepin' on in this pandemic.
Yes, the crowds were mellower then. I was one of them. The screaming didn't start til the end of the song or the performer did something truly smokin'.
Current singers and performers? Take notice of what can be achieved on stage. Singing live. So talented....Too talented!!!! Motown let an amazing group slip through their hands. Gladys and the Pips were dynamite live. What memories, what music what a group and thank you.....For posting this and to Gladys and the guys. One of the greatest live acts of all time! I saw them 3 times in the UK. Stunning every time!!!!
so true just cant believe the crowd was so dead . nobody standing or bobbing and weaving their heads. The pips were jamming and of course Gladys . nothing like crowds of today.
LOVE THEM! Just saw Gladys with guest appearance of Bubba. She still can sing. Not, excuse me- SANG! The camera men should have been shot for flipping back and forth between Gladys and the Pips early in the video. The Pips were doing it. You should have left the camera on them until the song changed back! And then they showed the back of her head and also the conga player. Was the camera man drunk?? Still my favorite GK & Pips clip. Thanks for sharing.
Makes you sweat just watching.. another AMAZING performance is Ike and Tina Turner doing Land of 1,000 Dances on the Smothers Brothers Variety Hour.. they don’t make ‘em like this anymore
