@@sludge4125 Lol... what does your comment even mean in regards to the original comment?!?! You proved his point precisely... As time goes on things change, and like wine, some things get better...
@@JonahJojoTheMan # How about that... If he's found the Fountain of Youth, I wish he let me in on it... I wouldn't mind shedding a couple years, going back to around the age of 25 or 30... LOL!!!
i wasn't even born back then, but there's something in this song that taps into my emotional string, and makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. no bullshit, i shed a tear every time i hear this song.
Gladys Knight. One of the best vocalists of all time. And I mean of all time. How young she was here and sweet. ..but behind that, immensely powerful. A voice that cuts through the hardest armour straight to the soul.
I was born in 1978 and this is one of my all time favorite songs. Gladys is a classy lady and this is the kind of woman our young nation needs to look up to! The world would be a much better place with more celebrities like her!
“Woo-woo!” The Pips’ deathless contribution to one of Gladys Knight’s best loved tunes is an impression of a steam train. All the rest of the song’s swinging soul power is down to Knight’s convincing devotion to a man whose dreams of LA stardom have gone tits up, and Jim Weatherly’s less-is-more lyric: “I’d rather live in his world than live without him in mine“. Devastating.
@@huffwayno yes she was is and always is so beautiful. I remember when she was on the tv shows that she was so captivating.. I used to dance around pretending i was one of the pips.. Lol
She looks so much like Kelly Rowland in this clip and still so beautiful to this day if they do the movie we know who playing her ain't no going back on that.
Great job. Trivia: This song was written by a close friend of actress Farrah Fawcett. She had told him that she had a "midnight plane to Houston" to visit her parents. It stuck in his head and he wrote this award winning song.
Those of us of a certain ages will always remember the great voices and groups. This is one of the best vocals ever written and Gladys Knight and the Pips are timeless!
Whew! The most beautiful woman of the 70s. Motown could've had her and the Pips throughout the decade had Berry Gordy not been so far up Diana Ross'@ss! Nothing against DR but d@mn- how does one NOT recognize this beauty and talent? Tsk tsk tsk...
😭when I see such a gorgeous woman singing like that it hits me right in the feels. I needed that and I must go look for a tissue to dry my eyes. Always liked that song. Love this performance.
brings back so many memories when all people of all colors really tried to get along by appreciating talent and respect for one another unlike today everyone seems to have a chip on their shoulder and so unhappy
T Warner But the 'deal' offered by the majority was only to allow entertainers and sports figures. No respect for equality as citizens before the law. Papering over reality with feel-good tactics is why everything broke down so badly. Maybe, if we start from a place of real mutual respect for everyone, we can reach good feelings again.
Gladys' effortless gliding along in the upper register of her voice - amazing. Made for perfect TV watching at the peak of her fame. In live performance such as this, you'd here these amazing sounds, but Gladys' face was relaxed, serene, smiling. At the very highest there's just a teensy bit effort to see, but then that smile breaks out right after. An amazing performer. I sure hope one day I get the privilege of hearing her in person.
Music from the heart and soul... Gladys you are a vocal treasure. The Pips, a rare talent. Rest In Peace Red and Edward. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
I wish I was one of them...look at the moves the real show is right there... their vocals soooo precise and sooo soul. Sooo blues She is good but their are from another planet So Humble that makes them God’s vocalists!!!!!! The show is their vocals. Their moves. I’m in love with the Pips
Such great lyrics .. Super star, but ya didn't get far....who in the heck wrote such incredible lyrics as these!?! Absolutely super, meaningful lyrics!!!
The lyricist is James Weatherly, who originally titled the song Midnight Plane to Houston. Doesn't quite have the same feel does it? Being from Atlanta, Georgia, Gladys asked Weatherly if she could change the title and lyric to Midnight Train to Georgia, something that she could feel. Obviously, Weatherly agreed...totally changes the groove, makes for those great background vocals and soulful rhythm. BTW, Weatherly is a great lyricist. He also wrote the lyrics of several other songs Gladys recorded: Neither One of Us, The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me, Where Peaceful Waters Flow (a very under-appreciated song and recording). It takes a great singer to make great lyrics into a great song, (say nothing of the musical and vocal arrangements!). To illustrate the point, here are links to Weatherly performing his songs. He has a country western style. I have tremendous respect for performers who have the balls to perform live like this on TV. Most of the TV shows have groups/singers lip syncing - Gladys & the Pips - true talent - true pros - ALL CLASS. !!!!
Awwwww man, it doesn't get any better than this. They say that Aretha Franklin is the Queen.....I say no. Gladys Knight is the whole package, and she's a WONDERFUL person as well.
Gladys Knight is a beautiful woman with a wonderful voice and her Pips are just about perfect in their dance routine. Fantastic song , wonderfully sung , professional to the tee. One of my favorites.
She is so stinking cute! But then that voice comes out, and bam! Kicks my butt every time. Recently saw Summer of Soul documentary. The Pips were some bad dudes. Super tight moves and fantastic harmonies. Like rock music, imo the 70’s decade was the pinnacle of soul music.
dreams don't always come true but they will when you got a down lady in your life like Gladys speaking bout. song is so relatable in so many ways for so many people
So ridiculously beautiful and soulful that Gladys is. You can't teach someone to be this full of soul, it's inherited. And she has it in spades. Her rich vocals mixed in with the way she effortlessly growls and screeches is something you never will see again.
