This is a example Why the 1970s is the BEST decade for music masterpieces like this golden gem....60s 80s 50s are great decades too but 70s hands down....
We need these type of songs, music hasn't been the same in years. No heart and soul in it anymore. Just words that are repeated and promote nothing I want to listen to. This brings back all the days that we didn't realize how good the music and life were at the time. ☮🎶💙
I thank GOD for being placed in that time period. I miss the feeling of youthful innocense---ceaseless energy. The days are forever gone, but the music lingers. Again, thank you Father, for allowing me those years.
Oohh...Eugene Record. What a voice. What a song. What a loss when you passed. Love you Squirrel, Jonsey, and Marshall. Can't stop listening even tho I'm 80. This was my music in my time. 🎶✨️🎶
Damn that is a voice that would make the angels cry! That is truly a thing of beauty. I am so blessed to have grown up in those times. I miss them so much.
The 70s music will put you on another planet that no one will understand unless you have a love of the 70s music. You don't need drugs or alcohol to appreciate the best music ever. God....take me back to the 70s and leave me there....I'll be just fine.
Harmonica playing inspired me to play Harmonica these past Fifty-two Years. learning was not easy at first but in matter time I Learned Voice OCTIVES & RIFFS. Anyone for "Just My Imagination" The Temptations......
By the second line, my eyes are swimming in tears. Richard (my very first love) and my song. He has left this earth, as has our beautiful son - whom we always joked was conceived to this number. Sweet times...
The Chi-Lites are one of my all-time favourite groups Angela, i adored them and still do ....... this group and the Stylistics were very much the 70's to me , i craved their music.
@@barryh.4220 Most of the male groups from the '60s and 70s recorded awesome music that is still very relevant today, because they sang mostly about love and relationships, and unity among the races.
The Defonics, the Chi Lites, Main Ingredient and other bands that weren't as known as say the Jackson 5 or the Four Tops were just unbelievably great! Beautiful songs and talent.
These guys didn't record a bad song. All of The Chilites songs were my favorites. Eugene Record was a triple threat, lead singer, songwriter for many and a guitarist. May he forever Rip. 🎤🎶🎶🎶❤️🙏
Remembering sitting on the porch of my Grandma's house in the south on that old porch swing just watching the world go by....listening to the radio...📣
Isso sim era música de verdade saudades dessa época quando fazíamos os bailinhos na garagem de casa dançava de rostinho colados e vários beijo na boca kkk
Not only was Chi-Lites lead singer Eugene Record an outstanding vocalist, but (unlike most vocal groups) he wrote and produced their hits, including this 1972 US Billboard #1 single. As well as "Have You Seen Her" and "Stoned Out of My Mind." And he really had a knack for writing and producing exquisite tearjerkers ("The Coldest Days Of My Life," "A Letter To Myself"). Few people know his name but he was an extraordinary talent (he died in 2005). I always knew "Oh Girl" would stand the test of time. It's an absolute classic. (Also, The Chi-Lites are from Chicago, they are not a Motown group)
You know, in 40 - 50 years today's kids will be saying the same thing in regard to "their" music. Two things that you can't argue about are somebody's love for music and somebody's love for fashion. There is no way to prove them wrong and convince them. You're better off trying to appreciate what it is or just keeping quiet.
I agree, a massive outpouring of art and talent occurred during that period. I was fortunate to grow up in such a time. I remember waiting for the new hit songs and / or albums that seemed to keep coming and coming. Younger generations don't understand, they did not experience it.
For anyone who does not know the name Chi-Lites (which is the name of the group who does this amazing song) is short for Chicago Lights which is the city they are from. nothing to do with Motown. There were numerous other record companies who put out great soul music besides Motown.
1972 was the year I turned 16, the last year of the draft, we pulled most of the ground troops from South Viet Nam and bombed hell out of the North and this wonderful song came out.
Cheryl Reiff I was class of '74. I left early and enlisted in '73. I didn't have strong feelings one way or another at 17 but the Army was my ticket out, my means to escape at the time.
Cheryl Reiff There's still plenty of good music out there but you have to search for it. The good stuff just doesn't get played on the radio and the record companies don't promote it. For starters check out Midnight In Harlem by The Tedeschi Trucks Band.
I am on RU-vid sometimes all night long listening to this. I’m 69, white woman, but man I love good soul music and most anything from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Don’t matter the race, sex, or other, I just like good music I can get into.
Sends chills down my spine, what great times, the music we will never forget, wonderful days ,when young people knew how to enjoy themselves, bring back those days 💔
There was little difference between the sixties and the seventies , both were fabulous eras for music , and even the eighties held it's own with some half decent music ..... but once you reached the mid nineties things started deteriorating rapidly into the rubbish we're left with today.
Believe me Angela when I tell you it was the most beautiful music and the most beautiful times ever and I'm so glad to have lived it for me just priceless x

Those were the days, Bernie.....I miss them so much and makes me cry from the great memories my grandchildren won't have. Loved to watch American Bandstand and Soul Train.
I want to cry when I think about the 70’s 😔 Lucky me , I lived through that beautiful time , in my beautiful country El Salvador ! I miss my family , friends , all the beautiful memories . 💜💜😔
Back in 1989 as we were driving to the cemetery to bury our big sister this song was playing on the radio...Sis I truly miss you...Love you always and forever..
My man singing lead has a hell of a voice. The way he calls out with pain really brings the songs meaning to life. Absolutely amazing job my brotha. Thank you for that👍👍👍
She left in 1986 and never came back. Now she has passed and have been lonely for my true love ever since she left never to be replaced. Boy has it been brutal.
