Hey am the stockman at glamis castle. Am gutted you didn’t get any of my lovey cattle in your video. Great video tho. I’ve shared it in the estate WhatsApp 👍
Wow! We filmed this the day they opened for the season. We didn’t see any cattle, but my daughter loves animals and would loved to have seen them. Any Highland Cattle? She bought one of the stuffed ones in the gift shop and sleeps with it every night! Thanks for sharing with the estate, I hope we did it justice.
Thank you for this wonderful glimpse into our family’s history. My husband’s grandmother was a Lyon; too her father and so on. We have a detailed book created by a family member, and in my research, our branch of the tree was a Jacobite that arrived in the US in the late 1700s Scotland is on our bucket list, definitely going to visit during a late summer
Thank you Sue for writing this comment...I too am a Lyon. My father grew up in Forfar and immigrated to Canada when he was 16 years old (1922). I grew up with stories of our family connection to Glamis. I would love to connect with you to share family history. Debra (Lyon) Fremmerlid I will try to connect with you on Facebook.
More! More! This is one of my favorite video tours of castles and palaces. It tells the story of a class, times, and a family. And tells it well. Thank you.
Definitely. It is still privately owned, but like many of these old castles, I would imagine that they need to find revenue sources to upkeep the castle.
Glamis Castle is our family seat. Our grandfather (Oupa), Jan Lyon, descends from a Lyon who went to Africa and started another branch of the Lyon family there.
Wow! I love Glamis castle, it’s history and the people of Scotland. Just a side note~When I was there back in the late 90, we weren’t allowed to take any pictures or video. I’m glad that they are allowing it now!
I did an ancestry DNA, and Patrick Lyon of Glamis Castle is my great grandmothers ancestors. I find this interesting as one of his relatives was an exiled Jacobite sent to a plantation in Virgina. Where my grandmother was born.
I think you only told and showed us all the lovely things about Glamis Castle as people do. There was a mention of the dark side. The story is about the Ogilvy's and the Lindsay's who apparently were always fighting with each other. Then one night the Ogilvy's were being hunted by the Lindsay's and they ran for cover in Glamis Castle .They knocked the door to be greeted by Lord Glamis who welcomed them in.He showed them to a room locked the door and left them to die.Skeletons were found.
Macbeth is my ancestor. He was ran to ground, alone,st Lumphanan where he was defeated and killed in 1057. The grass grows yellow where his blood was spilt. If you go there,it's on the left, down in the valley from the highway.
What's the tune on the pipes at rhe start ? So stirring ... Is it true Glamis had its own private hangman for my years ? Has the hidden chamber been located ?
