Robert Watt, master piper from Northern Ireland, plays some tunes in honour of Gordon Duncan (amongst others The Panda, Rory Gallagher, The Famous Baravan, Break Yer Bass Drone).
Robert was a good friend of Gordon. They met often and competed together at the prestigious MacCrimmon solo piping competition at the Festival de la musique interceltique in Lorient (Brittany). Each competitor has to play a medley of Irish, Breton and Scottish music. Gordon Duncan was 3 times overall winner in the in the 1990s, Robert was winning 7 times in the following years.

Everything is so right about this performance - the musical interpretation in the playing, the tunes, the sharp picture and sound quality. Great to listen to, over and over again ! Thanks for sharing !

My year-and-a-half daughter loves when I play her jigs on the Scottish smallpipes. 'The Panda' seems to be amidst her favourites. Hard to hit the echo on E on that weird tiny chanter, tho!

Robert Watt's shift from minor, in Gordon Duncan's original (in the Panda, I think), to major is pure brilliance.

I've always been inspired by Gordon Duncan's music. The tune at 1.34 is The Famous Baravan

His high-hand pinkie finger moves in a very odd and dramatic way. Almost like it has an instrument of it own to play. Maybe that his secret, an alien pinkie finger.... Always great to hear him play.
@pipes0987
@pipes0987 4 года назад
Little known fact, he had a co-joined parasitic twin who was connected at the pinky tip. The poor half developed thing was cut off and lives in an asylum and whenever it picks its nose Roberts finger twitches.
