This was the first craft I did and I am so pleased with how it turned out! I learned how to use many features of my cricut which will be very helpful in future projects. Thank you so much for sharing your Glass Block Family Tree!
Love watching your video's I'm not new to Cricut but it's always nice to see how someone else does things. Love how you delete unwanted hidden layers as it keeps things looking tidy. Might have to use this idea :)
Emmajane thanks sweet. That's it, we all do things differently and we can all learn from each other. I may do something and someone may say I do it this way it's quicker, great! The more we share, the more we learn💋
Susan B Thankyou. You will love it. We have a group on fb called Cricut Craft Creators. Come and join us as we have lots of lovely ladies, including a few with makers who will always help you and we would love for you to share your creations. We all started with a machine in a box and although it can seem daunting at first, I promise that once you get the basics down you will be creating beautiful gifts before you know it.💋
Thanks for this really informative video! I've been bulk watching Cricut videos and it is was good to find a UK user! I've been unsure whether to purchase a Cricut but this video has really made me want to get one. Thanks x
megbkent very welcome. We have a fb page aswell and run competitions and giveaways every month. Well worth getting one. The Maker has just been released but unless your interested in cutting fabric the Airs are a fantastic starter machine.💋
Love this tree. I am making one now but I can not get it to slice the inside out of my shape. What do you think I could be doing wrong. I have not welded anything just attached after each step.
TheJackieo1960 Hi Jackie!!! Funnily enough I’m planning a Texas trip as we speak!!! Could you send me a pm on the Facebook page please so I can pick your brains😂😘
gogo uk these ones ar just copper wire string lights from the eBay and I also use 1 meter strip lights from the range, they are both around the £1 mark, give or take.💋
Lovely video 💕 please can I ask how you hide the battery pack for the lights? Not sure if you have one or whether I’ve brought the wrong Ones as mine have a large battery pack x
1directionjbx so I just have the wire hanging out the bottom of the hole and then hide the battery pack behind the glass block. That’s why I often spray paint the back so you can’t see it❤️
Thanks for the video. I am new to crafting and just watched your video. I would like to make the family tree for a Christmas gift. Where did you get the tree? All the trees I try doesn't work. I can't get the hearts to weld together. I have four hearts and only three will weld.
Vanessa Hailstock I would need to see your layers panel to help sweet. If you send me a message on the Facebook page with a picture of your layers panel I can help❤️
Shana Turbyfill I don’t use silhouette unfortunately, I’m Cricut all the way but I would check your settings. It sounds like you had the writing set to score, in your layers panel/tool bar there will be a way for you to change it to cut or draw or score💋
I have such a newbie question, but how did you know how to size the tree for the project you wanted it for? The block, a t-shirt, even a cookie jar... how do you know how to size it in Design?
Lisa Cosby that’s why I’m here lovely. We all started with a machine in a box. Some people get templates and certain companies do have online templates for their products. Ds has templates to. I’m more basic than that. I use my sewing tape measure🤣 I use it on most things including shapes such as stars for a rough estimate.💋
Hi I’m trying to add 12 hearts to a tree when I weld it welds 8 the others are below I bring them up front and it doesn’t work any ideas would be great
Anne Sanders, it's a 19x 8x 19 cm clear view pre cut glass block. I sometimes get the pre frosted ones and occasionally the wave view ones but I find I can do more with these ones. They are pre cut with a removable "lid" in place. You can get these without the cut in bulk from eBay etc but you need a special drill part to cut the opening. These ones are £3.99 each from glassblocksdirect.co.uk To search on eBay etc type craft glass blocks or for the non cut ones bathroom glass blocks bulk💋
Vicki Simmons I do have a video on it further down but download your font, find it in downloads, open the zip folder and open the font file, install. Refresh design space and then search for it. Sometimes refresh does it but if not close and reopen💋
Hi Casha, its not in DS you can find it in this Etsy link. www.etsy.com/uk/listing/571000455/swirly-tree-svg?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=family tree svg&ref=sr_gallery_1
I've tried to recreate this about 7 times now and no matter what I try, the names get all messed up and it won't cut them clean... it drags and pulls them up. I've tried different vinyl....different mats...new blades...different pressure... what is your trick to getting the letters to print out nicely? It's just the small names in the hearts.... I love this font...I'd hate to have to change it...
Dorigurl75 what vinyl are you using sweet and what cut setting? You want to make sure your vinyl is well adhered to your mat. If the names are small I always recommend using a deep cut blade especially with cursive text. It sounds like the text is just to small and the blade can’t cope, plus the font is very delicate. A deep cut blade has a greater angle than the premium so it copes a lot better with projects like this. Let me know the vinyl and setting though and we see if we can find a fix if you don’t have the deepcut💋
With the Cricut Maker you just choose the medium (vinyl) and then you can choose between more, default, or less pressure. I've tried all three. I also used my strong grip mat, not the standard one. I'll try the deep cut blade. My block is the same size as yours and my letters don't look any smaller than yours... so I'm not sure.
Oh I'm sorry.... I have Cricuts... and I bought another brand at the same time... I've only had my machine a couple weeks and only used it for 2 projects so far.... I'm a newbie! What vinyl works best....I'll buy that brand!
Vivi I've just rewatched the video. I didn't get it from ds I got it from my search engine. I just typed in family tree clip art/ svg/ silhouette etc.💋
I am trying to do the name that is supposed to be arranged in front. I have put the text in and changed my color so I can see it . I placed it on the heart to size it and it will not let me arrange to front. What am I doing wrong?
I just did this for my mother-in-law for mother's day. I did the names separate. I spray painted the back after I did the lettering and some of the letters rubbed off. 😔
Crifty Crafty I bought the cricut brand. I think I know what I did wrong. This whole cricut thing is new to me. I bought it off of someone a couple weeks ago. I didn't wipe off the glass block from my fingerprint oils. Love your project. It's beautiful.
Do you have any advice on spray that I can use to make sure the vinyl letters to stay on the glass? Some of my names are really small and I'm afraid they will rub sideways if someone touches them.
Christina Klein if you spray after it should not affect the vinyl. Make sure you spray at a reasonable distance though so you don’t soak your vinyl. I just use wilkos own brand spray so nothing special. You only need to spray if you want a frosting though. You do not need to seal your vinyl. If you just want clear glass then just adhere your vinyl and leave it💋
