thank you so much for your quick response. I will continue with the rust-oleum. your video was so helpful as I haven't done them before and wasn't sure if vinyl went on before or after. thank you
THANK YOU! This saved me from pulling a detailed vinyl picture off my block, since I forgot to frost it first. My first time. Followed up by ordering vinyl from your company. GREAT SERVICE!
hi troy I love how you always explain everything I've been searching for someone to help with applying a colored photo inside the block/front surface could you please make a video please!!!!!
Hey Troy!! Great Video .. I do have a question does it matter if you get the mini lights that have more than 20 count? I went to hobby Lobby and purchased some with 35 lights. wondering if I should take those back and get the 20 count. Thank you
How many coats did you put on that block. I used the same brand, added two Coates but mine don’t look as frosted. I but vinyl on both sides of my blocks.
I tried making one of these. I used Krylon Frosted Glass Finish and it seems to be scratching off very easily. I wiped down the block with alcohol before I sprayed it and i waited over 24 hours before I added the vinyl. The Vinyl is working fabulous however I've already scratched the frosted finish. Did I do something wrong, it is the brand I used? Is the brand you used more durable, or is this just the nature of the beast? Thank you for your help
I bought this same exact can because it was double the amount and the same price as what I was paying for a small can. But when I sprayed it, it dried very spotty, not smooth at all. Have you had this problem or did I possibly do something wrong?
Is there a way to get it to stick to the glass better bc it’s scratches off so easily...also there are like brown streaks sometimes on my edges...so weird...looks like rust...ant reasons this is happening?
Hi Troy, I love your videos. I am having difficulty using my cricut and I need some help on how to make the wording on my cricut and also the video you did with the children on them. Can you email me privately and I know you charge a fee but I cannot seem to make this thing work. I do not know what I am doing wrong but I have watched video after video. You make it look so easy. Thanks. Lisa
Greetings Troy, Thanks so much for taking the time to record and share your videos, I love them. I would like to know where did you get the UK decal and how did you get the letters in MANCAVE to cut with the two different colors? I have recently purchased a cricut machine and I'm still learning how to use it. Your videos have definitely helped alot, I would love to see more vinyl making (hint-hint). I'm into making tshirts, hats, cups, mugs, etc...Thanks again.
My advice is not to scratch it. Others say it comes off with windex--don't use windex. These are not to be handled, they are shelf sitters like any other decor that would scratch if you tried.
Thanks for the video. The sound is low compared to your other videos and my volume is up high. Is there any concern about the vinyl coming off if someone tries to clean with a glass cleaner? Your videos are so helpful.
Where did you get the glass block from? The blocks I find don't have the easy access point for lights (the access point on the blocks I purchased break when removing them). Thanks!
Jo Bailey try some headphones. I have some with adjustable volume. On this video I can turn up the volume louder than I can tolerate. I don't think it is the video. Give it a try. They are inexpensive. Less than $15.00
Hope maybe you can help me. I am wanting to frost a glass block but I wanted to color it first for say Pink. Like a transparent pink for just tint. I wonder if I could mod podge and tint the mod podge and then use the frosting over top of it and if the pink would show through the frost? Hope that make sense
Awesome video!! I do have a question though. I had a craft show this past weekend so I put my blocks in a box to transport. I noticed that some of the frost had scraped off due to the blocks hitting each other. Is there any way to "seal" the spray?
You know, I've never really counted but it has to be at least a few dozen, perhaps? Seems like I've done maybe 200 blocks and I can only remember buying like 6-10 cans, but I'm not positive.
HI there, I have a couple of questions. I have been trying to apply a black and white photo to a glass bock. I started with Image Art water transfers and that was an epic fail as the image wasn't even slightly visible. I then moved to Avery clear sticker paper, and that printed a much more vivid pic. It's still very bright though so I thought I'd try to diffuse the light by etching it. Will the clear sticker work on top of the etching spray? I thought of trying to etch the interior of the block, but can't find any info on that. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've beat my head against the wall on this project for weeks.
when you frost over the decal does it make the decal frosty? or does it wipe off the decal? I want my decal to stay shiny looking and the glass to be frosted. Thanks!
I have been told that the Frosted Glass Spray comes off really easy after wards--is it not permanent?? Some say nosst to use it because of that? I am trying to make one but want to frost it after I apply my vinyl saying so if this is the case what else can you do?? Thank you
+Carole Seltz I have probably made at least 200 of these in the past year and have had no complaints. Is it as durable as etching or sandblasting it? No, absolutely not. However, I have had no issues. I do wipe down the entire block with alcohol and let it dry before spraying. I have seen people post "it came off when I cleaned it with Windex" or "it came off when I scratched at it with my nail." Well, don't do that! There's no reason to clean them with anything but a feather duster. The paint on my car comes off of I scratch it with a key, too. I have had no issues.
I was told at Hobby Lobby not to buy the spray because it would come off when touched. But this is the look I'm trying to get and all the RU-vid videos to show this paint being used. I'm really confused and don't know what to do with my two new glass craft blocks for Christmas. Yours are beautiful!
Yes, had the video & my laptop on 100% and couldn't hear some of it. I know if I put my headphones on, it would be plenty loud though but didn't feel like dragging them out. :)
That's possible. I normally spray mine in the garage but in the summer one time I walked out there and came back in and forgot to set it down before I came in. So, I walked out with the glass block into the hot garage, back into the AC, then back out and it caused it to get condensation on it.
