In this video I lay some glass blocks in a window opening that was to be blocked up to install a new water heater and furnace. All my videos are my ways and ideas, I always suggest when doing work to consult professional help, www.amazon.com/shop/mikehaduck

I really enjoy learning about masonry and repair from you Mike. You’re an excellent teacher and I appreciate how you don’t intimidate us viewers with technical jargon and over-complicated instructions. You give me invaluable knowledge and confidence that I can complete these tasks myself. They won’t be as fast or look as good as yours but thanks to you I can tackle them. Keep making videos! Thanks Mike.

Thanks Mike, you're a good teacher. You inspired me to do some of my own masonry repairs. I follow your advice and lay it out dry, use the right cement/mortar, and I always get it wet first. Works every time. Keep up the good work.

yes Mike...having your fellow pro's chime in is very interesting and helpful. nods to Jardy for bird screening the outlets. any exterior pipe i've worked with will get inhabitants almost magically if there isn't a screen in place. birds especially! and the smaller the bird the faster they plug them.

Hi Mike. Hi from a mason/musician in Southern Ontario. I've had some success from some of your tips. I love the sponges, I am halfway done a stone job and man o man do the stones POP because they are so clean... looks better than my usual rubber ball technique (I didn't steal the sponges from my brother in law's car when he wasn't looking-I took from a couch at the side of the road!). I haven't had much luck with the "Portland- paint-sin-hiding" technique but I haven't given up on the idea yet. Anyway, keep up the great work, and thank you for sharing these videos.

Thanks for making it look much more easy. Sure it's an art and it takes many thousand of hours to get a good handle on things but when you are a homeowner and are broke you have to make it. That's what I do and people like you on RU-vid help me out greatly. Any idea where I can get these screens for PVC pipe. I need something like that. I'd rather buy then try to cut out myself. Thanks !!!

I've learned so much from your videos, Mike. When you block something up like this, do you have to make sure it's airtight? Do you ever go back and have to add some more concrete because there are air gaps? Thanks for posting these videos.

Great video Mike, as always. Can you answer a quick question if time permits? I want to redo joints (repointing). I saw you adding a synthetic fibre to the mortar in one of your videos. Do you think adding fibre to the repointing mix can help? Weather condition is same a yours - Ontario, just on the other side of lake Erie from you. All the best to you and your dad!
@MikeHaduck
@MikeHaduck 5 лет назад
Hi George, I don’t usually use it for repointing, I don’t think it would hurt,, I did videos on how I repoint an old stonewall, and steps where I painted them with mud or how I match cement joints, When repointing they might help, But I never used the fibers for repointing, But I don’t see how it could hurt, thanks Mike

Can you use any type of mortar with glass blocks? Sales person in home depot said only glass block mortar. Also Can you cut glass blocks to fit, or is that never done? I see they have them made in different sizes, although that may require ordering in advance.

Could have got smaller glass blocks instead of the large brick, would have let in more light. Seem pretty skimpy on your mortar, seems like there’s going to be air pockets around the brick and glass block, but I guess it doesn’t matter as long as it’s sealed up.
