I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Dragon Age, etc). Yes, his defensive mindset have made the game a bit more challenging as the key to success is to out scale the mobs making it easier as you level up. Actually going class cannon and take none of the above can make it so that the run fail, but even that can work if nothing can touch you. Then there are the subtle defence items like Bible's, wand or even knives that clear the way.

For the other relic, you have to start a run in endless mode, you can quit 1 second in and the other level will be selectable again to get inverse mode unlocked

I have to say, Chris is the reason I got this game and have been playing tons since. I like to play while listening to these episodes. I've notice that when doing the same challenges I get completely different runs due to RNG and playstyle, and I absolutely love seeing the differences. This has been tons of fun!

18:30 I always save my rerolls for arcana because I like to go mad groove at 11 and sometimes I have to go digging for it. When you said you were maybe only going to get 25 more levels you were level 121. You finished the map at 189. 68 levels :)

Area per level is underrated. Paired with the crown and AOE and you can end up with +275+% area of attack!

For the secret spell that you tried to cast I found that sometimes it didn't work if you typed it slower, as in it didn't register unless you typed it all in fast (makes no sense but that's how I got it to work) . You can also type with your keyboard in that space to type faster

To be fair, it's not necessary for a Slash build. If you have Thousand Edge, that's plenty enough damage to plow through anything. And Heavenly Sword evo is garbage without eggs.

@@artifixer Agree to disagree. It's always been garbage and nobody ever uses them (for good reason) unless they're grinding with Gains. Even then, Trouser has long overtaken Gains, so there's literally no good reason to use Heavenly Sword.

Nice going, you're starting to realize the potential of pure damage builds :) A quick comment on Hellfire: It's absolutely insane. It can easily pass the 30k dps mark, especially when you choose the explosion Arcana (not to mention ricochet). However, in the current run, it suffers, because the evolved whips fulfill a similar role. They're both essentially bulldozers for clearing up a path. The whips attack very fast, so they kill things before the Hellfire can hit them. Each has their pros and cons. I like the Hellfire, because despite being less predictable in its aim, it covers a much wider area, and with the right combination of stats, you can chase a safe lane forever, while they kill anything that spawns at the edge of the screen.

@@robofish312 I guess the difference is that I'm not yelling? I mean, I do try to pick tome and spinach in every run, and seem to be doing okay. I only have a few unlocks left (like maybe 6, including the Bat ones?) so I'm almost done, and don't need to play characters and weapons I don't like. I'm intrigued, though. The problem I have with comments like "noobs pick tome and spinach every run" is that it only tells me what I shouldn't do, but offers no advice on improving. I get that Penta or evolved Lancet won't benefit from Spinach much, but they do from Tome, right? Still, I'd be interested in hearing why I'm wrong :)

@@GuerillaBunny there's nothing wrong with you yourself picking the same build everytime but as a watcher I absolutely don't want to see Chris play the same build every episode. There are a ton of weapon combos that can beat any stage and it's more fun to watch, and honestly play yourself when you're mixing it up and trying new things. Why not plan builds around the character or arcana instead of choosing the combo you know will win everytime? How about making a build just with guns, birds, and cats and using the partner arcana? Why not go for all crit weapons? Why not go for the facetank arcana and see how much max hp you can get? If there was a skill that said "if you pick this you'll win" would you choose it every game? Games are fun when mechanics change, not just because the damage number gets higher. I'm sure I'm not the only person to want to see Chris explore the limits of the game, not just picking laurel and lancet and spinach and tome every single time for 50 episodes. Is that interesting?

@@robofish312 Ah, that's fair enough. To each their own. I'm the type who likes to figure games out, and reap the benefits. And Vampire Survivors especially is a game where you're rewarded for going over the top, perhaps not in terms of victory rates, but the dopamine from the flashing mayhem on the screen. Everything is a matter of taste, but I think the game also baits players into making bad decisions. I've seen many players stick to Garlic builds, because it took them through the first couple of hours. I stuck with the Bibles for way too long. And Chris here seems hell-bent on choosing weapons to evolve with the stage items. Which does make for variable builds, but not necessarily very good ones. If he's fine with that, then it's all fine. But I hear frustration, and I think a lot of other people do too, so we offer ways to improve. You're right, of course. You don't *need* Tome or Spinach to get through most things (I wonder who one would fare against an Inverse map with full Torona's, Gold Right, Left Metaglio, Curse, etc.) These are niche conditions, of course, but it's useful to have that information if he ever goes there :)

Honestly, this is what I would consider a kind of ideal run considering your unlocks, well done! There are only a couple of improvements, most you pointed out, but the one I would advise is planning a route for picking up stage items, for instance on this stage I would have gone down to the candelabra first, and then heading up for the attractorb and armour (and maybe silver ring) after, because they were all closer together it would save time to get the one out-of-the-way item first. Also I would say the laurel evo is more important than the clock evo for killing the reaper at the end, the fact that it limits your incoming damage to 10 will keep you alive against the reaper's LUDICROUS damage, and now that you have unlocked limit breaks it's possible for some other evolved weapons to get strong enough where the infinite corridor isn't a necessity (though I'd say it's still the best, but it takes up a slot and is kinda underwhelming for damage until you evolve it).

About the limit break, any weapon will lose its limit breaks when evolved so it's best to not spend the points on one that you are planning to evolve.

With Limit Break, any upgrades you have on a base item, will indeed be wiped out when you evolve the item. As for the stage Eudaimonia Machine, where you found the trumpet, and there was the option of the Mirror. You need to do a run in Endless Mode to reopen the stage Eudaimonia Machine. I don't know whether the minute 31 arcanas can be got in endless mode. You just need to start the run in Endless mode. It doesn't matter when you finish the run.

I really enjoyed this run. I think picking an early arcana around which you try to build can be very interesting. I just feel this was really missing the Cross. It's unfortunate the cross doesn't show on the arcana but the evolved version of the cross (the sword) was part of the crit arcana. AND clover / luck also increases crit chance so I think it would be a wonderful addition here

I would highly encourage Empty Tome sky rockets in your priority list for sub-weapons. 40% to weapon cooldown, is a huge UNIVERSAL buff to weapons even if you do not pick up the wand. Also it is one of the few sub-weapons that actually has a lower drop rate compared to other sub weapons (because it is so good).

For the "cast a spell", I suspect there's a confirm button on controller that's getting missed. I'm on PC and just entering the code and pressing enter works. I wonder if it's "start" instead of your standard buttons to confirm.

You need to input the spell very quickly. The good news is that you can use your keyboard. Fun fact empty tome is one of the best dps items in the game thanks to lowering your cooldowns by 40% at max. That means an item that attacked every 1 seconds will now attack every 0.6 seconds. The issue with spinach is that you lose a little dps on overkilling enemies, though a 50% attack gain is also huge in the late game. Duplicator is also solid, but its worth really depends on the number of base projectiles the weapons you are using will get. Going from 3 to 5 for example is huge, but going from 10 to 12 is just pretty nice. The box is just very good in general as you get 8 levels worth of buffs to Might, Projectile Speed, Duration, and Area. At level 8 it is it like a 25% buff to all of those. Also the last level gives 100% curse which is more than the skull.

I haven't watched this video yet, I just got done yesterday's. When you see something funny at the end of your DPS list after a map, thats the damage being done by Arcana. Arcana XII turns Clock Lancet into a death ray. It's my favorite Arcana, I take that and Groove so often.

The Laurel evolved into Crimson Shroud with high damage output is enough to beat the reaper for many levels. I have done that plenty of times. The Clock Lancet, in my experience, is not needed in the Dairy Factory as long as you have the Crimson Shroud.

The ONLY way you are gonna kill the end death normally is with infinite corridor, laurel, and lots of revives. regular death has 655,000 health PER player level. So Its gonna have say 60 to 80 million health by end game! But halving its health 6 or 7 + times with corridor brings it down into killable range.

7:57 - yes get them.... spinach, empty tome, candelabrador, spell binder, duplicator. They all buff almost all weapons, you don't exactly need to worry about evolving all of them. Also weapons like bones and cats that can't evolve or is already strong enough without evos. You can have 4 OP evos that are even stronger because of some selection of the secondaries mentioned and 2 weapons for suport. And even if all that is not enough, for every item in the map you use for a evolution you have a free slot to pick up one of those buffs. So really, get those.

Limit break has a bunch of marginal +1%, +3% stuff and then some insane +1 amount or +100% duration things to watch for. Heaven sword is super OP. Taking just cross and limiting yourself to one weapon with the right arcana you can smash 30 minutes no problem.

Christopher - the X1 secret code is a bit glitchy and annoying. You have the right idea, its just pain to do properly. Try entering it with your keyboard in main menu (type it on your keyboard), and do it QUICKLY (as in, within a few seconds). I dont consider this a spoiler as its just a super annoying mechanic to figure out.

I ran into a weird scenario where I wasn't killing the reaper but it didn't kill me. It spawned an extra reaper every minute. Got up to 5 reapers and minute 35 before one finally died and the final reaper appeared.

Offensive stuff is always better than defensive. It can't hurt you if it's dead and if it touches you you are playing too recklessly. I never pick defensive items if I'm not hunting for a specific unlock or similar.

You do not need to enter it quickly, and you HAVE to enter it from the secrets menu and not the main menu. You need to do the codes for Smith in the main menu, not Exdash. He was just so stupid, he didn't even try hitting the enter key to input the code. His inputs weren't too slow, he literally never input anything because he didn't hit enter.

Game Killer is such a fun stuff to change the whole gameplay. Starting with a character with someone with temporary boost (that reduces when you level up) makes that character insanely good. Especially in Boss Rash, yes, because of the chest drops. Otherwise, it can be troublesome after a while.

In this run, it's probably good, since you can grab it off the ground, but in general, I think the upgraded Santa Water's damage is a bit misleading, beacuse of needing to grab the Attract Orb, especially if it's replacing Spinach or Tome or something.

It isn't. Even with just a duration buff, La Borra almost never stops. It's always on the ground and stacking. With both the Tome and Spellbinder, it will almost always out-damage all the other starting weapons.

I don't see how you can say 'you trade off dps with Thousand Edge for [..] to get away' when Thousand Edge did 20.3M damage and was only second to Death Spiral (and third to La Borra but for whatever reason RNGesus decided you'd evolve that late). Thousand Edge is what let you obliterate those guardians so quickly (the things guarding the runes or the Megaloops or whatever they're called on the left (good) and right (cursed item). Because it's one of the few weapons that you have to direct to control, it's harder to use I guess (although it's Thousand Edge, so I guess I'm talking more about Knife) but dps is not a problem.

The damage numbers are color coded: grey = up to low double digits, red = medium to high double digits, yellow = 100+. Crits are not depicted, as far as I know.

You're still not getting the synergies between weapons and powerups quite right... Choosing random weapons based on world items is rarely a good strategy over choosing weapons and powerups that synergies well... For example, you wanted santa water, and shadow pinion... These weapons do not synergise well as one is better for a static build (Santa water) and the other for a more dodgy build. Also, with 3 weapons that already benefit from the duplicator powerup (whip, axe, and knives) it shouldn't have even been a consideration not to take the duplicator when it dropped.

"Hellfire seems bad"... well, if you used the arcana designed to go with Hellfire, then it would seem like all the other weapons were bad. You used XVI - Slash, that made the Axe/Death Spiral, Knife/Thousand Edge and Fuwalafuwaloo way better than they would be as well, and then amplified it with VII - Iron Blue Will, making Death Spiral and Thousand Edge really, really strong. Without those, these would likely perform similarly to Hellfire (DPS wise). It's all about the choices you make. There isn't a single weapon in the game that can't go insane mode, you just need to enable it. As for La Borra... yeah, that one is always insane. With decent Area the AOE just obliterates the whole screen.

Now you understand the true insanity runs can get to... You can have runs where limit break and endless makes it so you can not die. You have to manually quit the run. It's great. 😄
