In Unbreakable M Night Shyamalan played a young drug dealer, and in Glass when he talked to David about the old place he used to work, he said that he used to hang around there and hung around the wrong crowd, but he turned his life around. I thought that was some nice attention to detail.
he played the same character across the trilogy.. even in SPLIT he was doing some cctv footage recording stuff with the psychiatric.. and then he turned up at Dunn security which means thats his profession now.
Blackreti I mean, if Shyamalan played that character in Unbreakable, of course he will remember that character lmao. Not really worth a “nice attention to detail”
@@aaronsanders6162 The character was so insignificant and forgettable that he didnt even need to be in the movie again. So it was good attention to detail.
you also have no clue how long he been faking it. switching his drugs. He could had been out and about often trying to learn these thing without staff noticing and some skills he may had known prior to be put into the ward
@@Marveryn exactly!!! Omg people now are way too negative to the point they want it to be impossible to do things like these in real life. I'm not saying you can ram through a steel door but my point is things like these have happened but not as spectacular in real life. For some reason people just want everyone to stay at a certain limit.
You must've hated Unbreakable. David Dunn dying in a puddle was a slap in the face. You are high, drunk, or both to think Elijah's plan was "genius"... Introducing to the general public some underwhelming CCTV footage of two random dudes fighting at a psych ward in hopes of convincing them that superheroes exist?
@Robin Banks it's alright, man. Films are subjective. It's possible you will loathe a film he loves, and love a film he loathes. But it's equally possible you will both love and loathe certain films equally. There's no reason to be angry at someone for not seeing eye to eye with you on something, be it a film, politics, religion, etc. It's not a judgment on you as a person, it's an opinion on something you happen to like that he didn't. Keep in mind, these reviews are still a form of entertainment that requires the reviewer to be colorful in the way he communicates, whether or not he likes or dislikes a film. I doubt he was going out of his way to insult you or take a dump on the film, he simply had to emphatically express his distaste.
@Robin Banks I understand the impulse. We all feel personally insulted somehow when someone strongly dislikes something that we love, or passionately disagrees with an opinion we hold dear. Here's the thing though, we need to reign it in. Accept that people see things differently. That's alright. There is no need to be offended or insulted. It's normal. Being upset at something like that is an utter waste of your time brotha. If you love that movie, you're free to do so. Sing its praises! I'm sure a lot of people agree with you. But you can't change anyone's opinion by being mad at it.
godzillarex888 SPOILER: when Dunn was killed by a fucking puddle, I was like “are you fucking kidding me” the way everyone went out was just so disappointing and Dunn’s was 100% disrespectful.
@ godzillarex888 Why? Who is Dunn? Just some guy. Do you watned heroic battle to the end? This isin't comic book movie with epic battles. Just some random dude got powers, Goverment don't want people like that existing.
@@manujohn99 yes indeed they are. BUT people can be split. Not everyone will have the same opinion-for instance I might just love Glass when I see it in a few days. And another example- BvS and Last Jedi-people are pretty split on if those movies are good or bad.
No its not gonna split audiences .....I read the full storyline , and I can tell u der is nothing controversial which can divide Audiences , it's just a flat twist that doesn't work
@@sahilingale3280 Right because everyone has the same opinions ever. Do you know how the internet works or nah? Jahns clearly didn't really like this movie, but again others might enjoy it. Or it could just be all around shit who knows I haven't seen it but I will tomorrow so we'll see. Hell even TRAILERS have audiences divided or at the least people have disagreements on them-I hate quite a few things in the new Far From Home trailer, but jahns and AngryJoe love it so....again people have differing opinions on the net lol.
@lschroter2020 Did you happen to watch his best of video this year? I don't think you did. IF you did, you'd know he just didn't get to talk about everything he liked.

Ok I normally agree with you but this time I don't. I remember everyone hating on unbreakable and I loved it! In watching glass I realize it's a masterpiece. I love the way it ended without spoilers it ended the way it should have. Everyone in the movie did a wonderful job and at the end my heart was with all three characters. And I know a lot of people won't agree but it was really good
Migdalia Rodriguez toney I just watched it yesterday. The ending was a bit confusing and disappointing at first, but the more time I spent mulling it over in my head, the more everything, literally everything, made perfect sense. I adore this movie.
I loved Glass. It’s a story about how some humans are open to extraordinary possibilities (not like stereotypical flying, reference to first Superman in the movie), but society brings them down because they are different or broken. I liked how the movie celebrated the individual over the group, especially the twist at the end. How did you want it to end?
Loved the message and the idea behind the ending just for me I thought it was messy , it needed touching up and editing. It kinda dragged Real nitpicky stuff but the whole movie was great I loved it.
I feel the same about it, it was a really nice movie, not to be read literally as in superhero doing superhero things, but about different human potential
So James McAvoy's career run remains Unbreakable, the last act will have its audience Split and Shyamalan's reputation, as a result, remains delicate like a pane of Glass. I got you Jeremy.
I just got back from watching the movie and WOW, this is my favorite Shyamalan movie and one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t understand why critics hated it so much but after checking IMDB I realize I’m not alone, most reviews on there are 9’s and 10’s. Seriously watch the movie, you won’t be disappointed!
I agree. It's also my favorite Shyamalan movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. I know some people may not love it and I totally understand. The ending can be divisive, but I feel like some people are making criticisms without analyzing the film more.
The movie was great. But then again, it was underappreciated. Too bad it got hated by the same people who never let go about the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. Yes. The movie was awful, but it's not his fault.
To the Critics & Jeremy Jahns "YOU ALMOST HAD ME BRO!" This movie was SO FREAKIN GOOD. Loved it. I didn't like HOW the ending happened.... But it does not mean it was a Bad ending. Quite the Opposite really.
the ending was ok but I think it was not edited right. they stretch it out a bit longer than needed. You could had cut all about half the footage of that ending and it would had been tighter. The only other issue it doesn't answer one question. A q uestion that the film should not had brought up. She mention why they did twhat they did in the end cause when one appear the opposite appear. if that true you are missing one more. There 3 of them. My math may not be great but if you using the concept when one appear.. the opposite will appear.. then there should had been 4.
That's the problem. People keep treating the trilogy as superhero movies. You can't do that cause then you'll start comparing it to actual superhero movies. Treat the trilogy like it's Chronicle. Chronicle was a sci-fi, not a superhero movie. However, im not surprised that this movie wasn't all that good. Too many high expectations made the director choke.
bless 84 I’d say that Chronicle counts as a super hero movie. The issue is most people have only this one idea of what a super hero movie should be, kinda like how back in the day when people thought horror a lot of them thought specifically slasher films.
I can't wait to see Glass for myself and find out exactly why people didn't like it. Why? Does it lack action? Are the performances terrible? Were certain parts very laggy? I look at this trilogy as a very dark sci-fi drama which does a good job so far. I don't know. I just have to see why the disappointment.
Never know, maybe this is a very rare moment where people disagree with Jeremy. Usually he's spot on with his reviews. In fact, he's one of my top movie reviewers. However I still don't forgive him for his negative thoughts on American Hustle. Just....can't. Lol
Saw the movie "Glass" this evening. It was awesome!!!! I think if you don't go in with specific expectations and just follow the story, then ending and the way it unfolds will make perfect sense. Never saw "Split", but I was still able to follow his character as they gave enough info and scenes from the that film to have his actions make perfect sense. The young lady who was let go in "Split" plays a key role in this film. But yes, I loved it.
For me, how good a movie always depends on how time flies when you're watching it. Just saw Glass n i dont look for the time n enjoy it every bit. Not saying its perfect but its enjoyable enough
I feel like movies such as unbreakable are dead sadly. Audiences want action, cool sequences, and little plot; and of course today’s movies are the definition of that. When unbreakable was released, it didn’t have the MCU, Jurassic Worlds, DCEU to compete with. I tried to get someone a while back to watch Unbreakable and they thought it was the most boring movie ever, but when you compare it to what is released today, audiences don’t have the patience to enjoy a movie like Unbreakable. I don’t know what Glass will do with the modern audience, but to expect unbreakable 2 from Glass would be movie suicide
This movie (especially the horrendous 3rd act) goes against everything the last two movies spent so much to build up and everything loses its nuance by delving down into cheap, cookie cutter, comic book action.
@@xkmuffinzx3915 Saw it and I think that is half true. It was twisted though, all for the cameras. Hopefully I can revisit this movie in the future to get a fresh perspective without those hating and praising it.
For all i can say I'm a big dc fan but when i watched unbreakable i kinda wished they'd make a sequel and they did it finally. The point is movies like unbreakable, split and glass tap into comics more than the marvel and dc franchise and still get you hooked on it without action sequences. They are always gonna be people who will appreciate a well written movie and unbreakable was the start of that in a comic book genre, until the dark knight trilogy came and made the comic book movies serious.
It sounds very good it just wasn't good as an unbreakable sequel... that's what I'm getting from this review. Im sure you'll love it.... i know i will.
So I’ll add this, Glass is a movie that absolutely requires having seen both Unbreakable AND Split to get anything out of it. The third act will definitely be the most divisive part of the movie, but everything before that is very solid. The fact that M. Night personally funded this movie with a fairly small budget shows quite a bit in some parts and most definitely has an impact on the third act (I won’t explain why, but if you see the movie, it can be figured out).
I really loved it too.. was on the edge of my seat the whole time... Incredible conclusion. My only gripes are 1/ Not enough David Dunn 2/ Not enough of the soundtracks from Unbreakable and Split... Those were really beautiful.
When David Dunn and the beast are fighting, you are on the edge of your seat. Them wasting two movies on characters just to kill them off in the third one was horseshit and I would've give glass a 5/5 if they hadn't all died. The twist that people now know superheroes exist is a little clever but that's all
Saw this movie last Saturday and I personally loved it. Like you said about how people will be split towards the ending; I totally agree. I see this movie being like the reaction to The Last Jedi in that regard; for the most part, people will either love where it goes, or they won’t.
reaper4213 they honestly just hate it bcuz of the way it ends , saw it as well and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie , and yes people will be divided on this movie, mainly due to how it closes all movies together in the end but I personally liked how it ended although I won’t give any spoilers , it was different and surprising but at the same time upsetting, I can see where others might say the 3rd act is lacking and falls short but I never gave it much thought , overall it was a solid movie to both unbreakable and split and had a good time.
Damn.. I didnt wanna believe IGN or the other reviews about Glass being not so good so I waited for Jeremy's review. Shyamalan why!? 😢 Glad I can watch it with these expectations now and maybe enjoy the film in a different perspective.
@@yurikuki It's not too surprising if you kinda read behind the scenes of it. Shymalan already had the ideas for Split on paper years before he started making it and before he started to greatly flounder as a writer/director, as far as I'm concerned, Split was only decent because he was riding off a relic of his pre-diminished talents if that makes sense. I mean I liked Split, but you could definitely see his tendencies for stupidity peaking in like some of the dialogue is bizarre and it has a few weird writing choices.
@@UnderstandableHaveANiceDayJPG it's a comic book turned into a movie to be honest. I saw it, enjoyed it for what it is. Film critiques really won't like it, but if you view it as a different way it was nicely done. I can't explain much without really spoiling the movie.
Ouch. I'm still seeing the movie, but it sounds like whenever Shyamalan works with a huge anticipation from audiences, the chances of him screwing up the film rise considerably.
Hello Jeremy just subscribed to your channel not long ago. I have to say I love your movie reviewing style. It's nothing like it online. You Da Man -:)
After watching the movie yesterday, I can definitely see why some people would be disappointed by the ending, but I feel like it fits the theme of the movies. All three of them tell a story, and the last one is about Glass in a way that makes sense and concludes the trilogy. Won't go into details to save others from spoilers, but I'd say the movie is good.
I’m still at the beginning of chapter 3 bc I’m still trying to do all the other shit in the game, I think I’ve been playing for over 2 months or more now
Your breakdown on expectation is exactly why I watch your stuff. Perfectly clear, spoils nothing, and puts my expectations in the right place so I can get the most out of the movie. Cheers mate
Every single review I've seen for this movie is trying to compare it to either unbreakable or split. That's why I think I'm going to like this movie because I'm not expecting more of the same as I've seen in unbreakable nor split. Shyamalan's said it himself: he wants each of these three movies to stand on their own tone and theme regardless of characters. Let's see if I'm correct. (I'm watching it sunday)
I just got back from this movie and I loved it. There's some clear flaws for sure, but overall, the good stuff outweighed them for me. Strangely though, I feel quite opposite to a lot of what Jeremy said. It felt much more tied to Unbreakable than Split for me and I thought that the third act was the strongest.
MaCeo Millions - I watched the Avengers before watching the MCU films before it and I was still able to understand what was going on. So what point are you trying to make?
Ok so I think Jeremy is going to pull a M. Night Shyamalan with the rating of this movie. Because I caught the Thursday night show and it was amazing! Blew my mind away...it’s a at least worth buying on Blu-ray kinda good. 😂🤷🏽♂️
I am going to wait till it finally arrives than make my own conclusion. I still think the points people are making seem to still have some legit criticisms though.
Just watched it. this is a highly entertaining film brilliant acting performances great storytelling & action sequences ... but it has a completely different direction & tone than unbreakable & Split plus ending of the third act was a bit of a mess & the twist felt... unearned. just IMO
Darn it, so you're saying M. Night goes full comic-book style by the end of the movie? That REALLY sucks...What I love about Split ans specially Unbreakable is that they are character driven thrillers, with the supernatural essence in the background. I always loved how David Dunn never was ridiculously strong, and that his motivations for being a protector were so grounded in reality. Moreover, while Kevin's DID disorder is exaggerated, we spend a lot of time understanding how this disorder affects him and how it defines him as a character. Point is, while there was a flare for the supernatural, the stories were very personal and real, and THAT is what made me love the movies... that little mysticism thrown in there to suggest super heroes/villains was a nice touch, but that is all that it was, a small touch. I fear I am going to be disappointed by the third act of Glass, but what the hell, if the performances and storytelling are there, you got my admission ticket.
"I feel like for this movie the audience will be Split. I feel like one half the audience with feel it's Unbreakable and the other will think it's flimsy like Glass" - Jeremy Jahns 2019 I love this guy!
To understand why the movie ended the way it did, pay close attention to Shyamalan’s penning: “This is not a cartoon. This is the real world”. And in the real world, ladies and gentlemen, people die. Humanity’s greed; quite specifically, their envy, will prevent those gifted from ever coming out of hiding. Mankind will find a way of destroying them, just like internet trolls found on this feed, shunning someone’s art. Nobody rates success as much as they’d like watching someone fall. Humanity didn’t want redundancy, hence killing those gifted without exposure. As soon as Mr Glass’ video surfaced online, we see Dr Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) scream because their organisation now knows they’re fighting a losing battle. Humans, sooner or later, will near extinction in evolution of those on the new spectrum; namely, Dunn’s spectrum. The ending, in my humble opinion, is an acquired taste - nevertheless - smart. The war has only just begun. “This was an origin story the whole time”.
used to be stuckmann primarily. But he missed "you were never here," and doing "Fahrenheit 11/9"(not my fav movie but you reviewing it was ballsy) have swayed me. Subscribed.
I just saw it and I love this movie. I did enjoy every act. And aside from being called Glass juste because is the other character. For me, it might be called that because this is his creation (vague). I loved, every bit of it. It elevated me, it was suspenseful, broke my heart and gave life again in a melancholic yet blissful way
It was jaw-dropping to me the ease at which the audience knows which persona McAvoy is playing just by looking at him. The man is in perfect control of every inch of his body. What a legend.
I don't get why everyone was saying M. Night was back just because he made one decent movie (Split). Let's not forget that he made 6 pieces of shit in a row beforehand.
M Night Shyamalan is a really good director. He has his ups and downs but he is a visionary director. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and the Signs were so good. Really hope he brings more movies like them.
😂 maybe it’ll turn out there all dead and that’s why they have “powers”. Maybe Hailey Joel Osment will show with his frosty breath as he stands surrounded by the “heroes”.
You missed the point of the movie. Watch it again and listen closely when Mr. Glass is talking to his mother in the third act. That will tell you what the movie is about ....just like the title does.
@@TheExecutioner21 But he really didn't though. 1. None of that footage was really undeniably superhuman and 2. It could easily be faked. The world isn't going to be changed by that footage. It would end up right alongside footage of bigfoot and ufos and that's it.
I really love it when the punch at the end starts with the fist below the camera. After binge watching a great many videos I've noticed that isn't always the case, and can say it definitely has more of a dramatic impact when you can't see the fist even knowing its coming every time. Oh right, the review was also amazing, especially for being spoiler free. I've watched some other popular channels where the spoiler free reviews are just them talking in circles and its annoying as fuck. This was great.
The first act I thought was okay, it started losing me during the second act when the characters spent way too much time having uninteresting conversations and delivering blatant exposition and by the third act I wanted to set the screen on fire. After loving the two lead-up films I was extremely disappointed with what this film gave us, or I should say didn't give us.
Jeremy continues to be on point with the top movies. I liked Glass a lot but although I watched both Unbreakable and Split I was completely satisfied. I enjoyed all three acts of the movie and I feel more so what leaves people split on this movie is Shyamalan's ability to maintain a balance of reality. Much like in life at the end of a real story we're never completely satisfied, we always want more but that's life I guess.
Great review Jeremy! Personally, I thought this was M. Nights best written movie in a while. When I watched Split, there was some dialogue that made me go ‘Yep, this is a Night movie’ but during almost this whole show I was like ‘Wait, M. Night wrote this?’
Read the ending...even reading it pissed me off so this is gonna be a tv watch whenever it comes to HBO. After so much time and after having so much love for Unbreakable the finale of this (as it reads) just plain sucks.
Going to see it on saturday and i’m super excited! From what i’ve heard, i think this movie will have a similar critical reception to films like venom; i think moviegoers will really enjoy it but it will be the sort of thing critics hate.
This movie was really a masterpiece. I watched it yesterday. Beautifully shot, best acting. Each and every actor brought their A game. I haven’t seen such truly great performances from actors since, I don’t know, in a very very long time in Hollywood. If someone wants to know what does it mean to act, this is the movie to show them. And they will learn acting. Really, the performances are beyond amazing. The direction was very thoughtful, sharp and brilliantly executed from start to finish. Watch the movie to experience it the way it is presented. It’s stupid to make up your own set of expectations and not leaving any space in your mind to experience what the actual movie has to say. Great movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I actually felt the emotion. That’s rare nowadays. Oh btw, the critics can go eat a dick.
love your videos hate your thumbnails lol. Cant wait to watch after i seen glass =D and we are all for sure gonna need a spoiler talk for this movie. shamamamalayan
@@TheExecutioner21 Unbreakable was more of a character study, than superhero movie. If Glass turns out to be just big showdown between Beast and Overseer, then it could be just a formulaic superhero movie. Get it ?
