The complete guide to glass painting using items from around the house. This project is suitable for both adults and children. If working with younger children then an adult should do the outlining and let the child do the painting.
This technique and material can be used to make just about any design. Chilldrens colouring book often have suitable images or you could use it to do your favourite cartoon character or super hero! You can also use it to make temporary Christmas, Easter of birthday decorations etc.
Using materials from the house makes them easy to get hold of and the whole project cheap to do. A great way of spending time creatively.

So Happy I found you, I am so appreciative of your humility but amazing talent and willingness to share it with the rest of us? The Amazing thing is I think I actually started learning from you back in England in the 1980s when I was in my 20s?....I now live here in Canada and my last daughter just moved out, I am disabled and limited and miss her terribly but I thought I'd turn her vacant bedroom into a craft room and try retrying some of my old once loved hobbies since I even have supplies stored from 20 plus years ago! I have unearthed them, some are even viable, the water based glass paints and I am treating myself to new ones including the new prisme fantasy range which weren't out when I started? Thank-you So much for all your great content I am thoroughly enjoying my new lease on life! 🥰 Xxx Sarah

The only ingredient I don't have yet is the "flexible filler" for the outliner. It's 4 years since this video was made, and I can't find that particular adhesive. While other flexible adhesives may well work fine, some silicone chemicals are water-soluble and some are not - it would be just my luck to pick one that's not water soluble and then end up not being able to dilute it to the required consistency after adding the black colour! Do you have a recommendation for a suitable specific filler which you know works fine and is currently available in the UK please? 😃

Yes that should be fine for the outliner (but as always do a small test before you dive into any proper work).

Personally I think it looks slightly better on the back as the line work looks "cleaner". It's particularly nice at night when the lights are on in the house and it's dark outside!

I haven't tried this but as it is just PVA and paint you could give it a try. Just be careful in case it gives off any fumes.

Most fexible bathroom/kitchen sealants will do. I have tried using PVA glue but can't find any thick enough or find a way of thickening the glue I already have :-(

Have you tried mixing any medium, such as gloss glazing liquid, in with the paint and glue to make the finished design more translucent? I'd like to make something that more closely resembled stained glass, but I'm not sure how best to achieve that. I know there's transparent paint like what you used in your faux stained glass videos, but I've already got a lot of regular acrylic paint, and the transparent paint is a bit more expensive, so I'm hoping I can just get a bottle of some additional medium that I could mix in to achieve the effect I want.
@GlassPainting
@GlassPainting 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for the question. I haven't personally tried this. As you said I tend to use the transparent glass paints when I want to do faux stained glass. I know a couple of people who have experimented with various clear resins with some success but that meant you had to mix up small batches and work quite quickly as they set in a very short time.

@megamawax
@megamawax 4 года назад
@@SunflowerSunflower101 I've been trying some different things to see if I can get there. One thing I tried was using the same amount of white glue in a couple different pots and then in one pot I tried a certain amount of pigment, in another I tried half that amount of pigment with the same amount of glazing liquid, and in another I tried the same but with gloss medium gel. I also tried a pot that was the same as the first but with clear glue instead of white glue. I found that half the amount of pigment makes it more translucent, which is no surprise, but I did not achieve the effect I wanted. I need less pigment overall to make it more translucent. I did notice, though, that in my little tests the ones with some glazing liquid and gel mixed in stuck to the window better than the one with just glue. Also, the one with white glue stuck better than the one with clear glue. I did not notice any difference in translucence between the white glue and clear glue. However, the clear glue had a bumpier texture. I don't know what is in the glue and paint that would dry kind of bumpy/grainy. I am currently drying one that has the same amount of white glue as the original tests but with less pigment (no glazing liquid or gel). I also have one drying that has less pigment, more glazing liquid / gel, less glue, and I also added water. I also took one of the ones that I originally made (gloss gel) and thinned it out with water and a little more glue. After those dry (probably a couple days - the ones with gel and glazing liquid take a little longer to dry), I'll see what I have. I may keep thinning one out as far as I can and then try building layers just to see what happens. So yeah, I'm not sure if the glazing liquid of the gel will add much to this project in regards to color and translucence, but they do seem to affect the texture and feel of the final product. There was one other thing that I had tried a while back. I was looking for the caulk to use for the outlines, and I first bought one that was silicone. I mixed some pigment with it, which worked ok, and then I tried mixing in some water to thin it out. That does not work at all. It just made a mess. I found that you need a certain kind of solvent in order to do anything with the silicone, which I think would be bad news. However, I did manage to squeeze out some of the colored silicone onto a sheet, and that had the translucency that I wanted. I also liked the texture. However, doing anything with that is not really worth the hassle. I know that you can buy pourable silicone for mold making, so maybe there's something that could be done with that, but I'm not going to try it.
