Glass Schindler Hydraulic Elevator at the Oakbrook Center Green Garage in Oak Brook, IL

(November 2022) This is one of two glass Schindler elevators in the Green Garage at the Oakbrook Center in Oak Brook, IL. The other elevator was broken when I filmed this one, so we only get to check out this one. Since it was so cold outside, this elevator was running viscosity control which means the motor will run and the car does not move!

Yes, true. But every hydraulic elevator elevator needs viscosity control to keep the oil flowing in the pump unit warm at a certain temperature, so the elevator itself can function properly. It’s important if an elevator is in a Parking Garage especially.

I’ve always been curious what these parking elevators look like at night recorded and uploaded. Well here they are, ha ha! That’s good, viscosity control is active for at least one of the outdoor elevators here, considering how much crazy weather happens in the Midwest and the use these get on a daily basis. I just never had a chance to see any of these elevators do viscosity control myself.

Nice elevator with an epic motor! So viscosity control automatically makes the elevator go down to the bottom floors for any elevators that have that mode?

Not quite. Viscosity control is where the oil In the pump unit is kept warm at a certain temperature in the Machine Room. While the elevator car just sits on its floor, not moving. It’s especially Important when it’s cold near elevators at a Parking Garage in an outdoor Shopping Mall like this. The oil gets pumped into the hydraulic piston, so the motor can give the elevator car enough strength to push itself up in the shaft.

This elevator went down went it did viscosity control, how does it not do it for other elevators? I don't understand

@@BuildingToursForLife1660-4 This particular elevator (from what I learned now) parked on 1 by itself, when it was about to start its viscosity control cycle. The elevator's controller did that. I've ridden this elevator many times before, since I live near this Mall. Another Schindler MT at 1275 Butterfield Road in Wheaton, Illinois has a similar behavior in its controller.

Oh, well I got a few places where they have Schindler MTs, I’ve seen a lot of those in the Chicagoland area & they have plenty of those, it’s all recorded & uploaded
