Brother. I first heard this song in the summer of 1991 when I was visiting in Whapmagoostui. I was tuned to Cree-language radio and I recorded it on my Walkman. Still gets me every time.
I served 8 months in Afghanistan, this is the only group of Canadians that came over during my tour to put on a performance, along with some retire NHLers. This is something that they have done several times during Canadian Afghan mission. Good on them, much appreciated by the troops.
Class Act, I didn't know that, and will get the chance to salute them when they play their Free Concert in Blind River, on July 8th as part of Community Days Activities, come on down, I need all the rockers I can find, Country fans outnumber us 10-1 in my fair little town.
DITTO TO KEVIN'S 2 REPLIES! I SO ADMIRE THIS WONDERFUL CANADIAN SOFT ROCK BAND, SINCE I WAS IN COLLEGE IN THE '80S; AS WELL AS BEING AN AMATEUR ROCK/BALLAD DRUMMER! GLASS TIGER INSPIRED ME TO BECOME A MORE "SERIOUS " MUSICIAN-AS TO HOW TIGHT & CRISP THEY ARE!! SO LOVE YOU GUYS AND THE APPRECIATIVE/EDUCATED FAN FOLLOWING! WHAT AN INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL "1 OF A KIND" LEAD SINGING VOICE ALAN HAS-HUGH?!! (JONMAN-DRUMMER/SINGER)
As a young Anishinabe woman in the 80s, I was happy to hear this on the radio at that time. How cool that Glass Tiger could tackle such an issue in a beautiful ballad? Meegwetch, brothers🙏🏾😘!
How cool! I was born on Anishinabe/Canadian land in the 70s and I had the pleasure to go to school and work with many amazing Anishinabe people here over my past almost 50 years. More to learn all the time though. Best wishes
I graduated high school in 1993. During all those years of education I was never taught about residential schools in Canada - that angers me. I want to be a part of reconciliation but it is challenging to know where to start. I don’t want to overstep. I see commercials on you tube for victims of residential schools but I wish I would see a website for other Canadians and how we can contribute to reconciliation in a respectful manner honouring First Nations people and their journey.

This was a great 80's band. Very underrated. I was in my young 20's and this music brings back a flicker of the optimism that I had for the future back then.
I was 23 when this song came to the public's attention. It has ALWAYS struck a nerve in me. ALWAYS AND FOREVERMORE. Alan Frew, you and your group perform a great song that is larger than any pop music chart position can or will ever convey. This is one song that I'll never ever EVER forget as long as I'm alive.
One of the greatest rock-pop anthems of all time, by a great 80's band. Beautiful metaphorical lyrics, just as the native american people would have spoken. A Great Anthem!
I was 18 yrs when this song came out in 1988, glasstiger was a huge success in Canada back then and cracked the USA market with there hit songs, this video was filmed in Alberta, Canada in the badlands which are outside of Calgary. So many great singers from Canada back then including Corey hart, honeymoon suite, haywire, etc.
I 100% agree! I love GT and still listen to their music now and all my Canadian faves! Bryan, Haywire, Corey, and many more… I love the music from 80s-90s!
- Given some of the civil unrest we still see in parts of the world today, this song & its powerful lyrics still resonate. Maybe if some folks listened closely they'd realize to try & treat people better inspite of their differences & try & respect one another better. Oh, are we never to learn....
Love the 80's...it was an amazing time for music. Im part Algonquin, so this resonated with me as a young kid. This band was always under rated in my opinion.
I made my younger brother bike down to the Co-Op with my allowance and buy the cassette for me. Such joy still. (CD now). This song choked me up and I was 11. I only knew 1 Native kid in my school in SW Calgary. There was a reserve nearby I heard, but never saw where.
"Diamond Sun" When they came to this land We gave our friendship, gave them our hands But it was never to be, oh, you must bow down They said, "Fall to your knees" Oh, diamond sun has to burn Oh, are we never to learn Oh, love gives life and life is love But what have we done We have walked on this earth Since the first star was shining And the moon had its birth But as with the shadows Of lonely trees We are in bondage But our hearts are still free Oh, diamond sun has to burn Oh, are we never to learn Oh, love gives life and life is love But what have we done Still diamond sun has to burn Oh, are we never to learn Still diamond sun has to burn In my heart I believe Someday the sun will shine You shall be free And bless our children As they're put to the test You'll feel the heartbeat Of a nation's unrest Oh, diamond sun has to burn Oh, are we never to learn Oh, love gives life and life is love But what have we done Oh, love gives life and life is love What have we done, what have we done
This LYRIC clearly has a "dual meaning" which seems fitting coming from a #Canadian Band that is in a country constantly Struggling with its Dual French and English-rooted "Western Cultures" well- planted in a Sea of First Nations or as some call, "Aboriginals" with over 250 respective Languages... Does it Truly #Matter WHO was here FIRST, #Second or 2,025th? Does It? But... and it's a BIG BUTTT... WHAT an #Incredible Song and Lyrical #Message! We sure can LEARN from This!!! Thank You Alan Frew and GLASS TIGER, you TRULY #Rock and This should be a radio #Classic for its 'dual meanings.' #Absolutely
1991, China. I was an elementary school student and I tried my best to translate the lyrics just to let my teachers know that western pop music is not evil.
Guys the fun part is I am 40 years old and I have a 13-year-old son who thinks 80's are fun when I show him the music the style of the 80's. He thinks we are living in really boring times today. I watched with him most of the famous movies from the 80's too. So we are sad about the 80's but if we expose the younger generations to the 80's they can discover how amazing amazing times we had.
This song and album is an absolute classic, yet it never got the praise or appreciation it deserves here in the States. I’ve seen these guys live 4 times now and they put on an incredible show every time. Hoping to see them in Mississauga again this December!
I searched around all over to see how this song charted and was absolutely baffled to not find any record of it on any charts which is absolutely criminal as this is one of their best songs. Easily in my top 3 by Glass Tiger. It's one of those songs that has me shedding some tears each time it plays.
This song has never been more relevant, what with the discovery of the mass grave at a former residential school site. These people have suffered so much, and for what?
I hope, that, when you say 'we', you are speaking for yourself and your family, or something such as that. I'm not sure who you mean by 'we', but, like I said, I hope it is for your family or close friends or something; I hope you are not trying to speak on behalf of the whole country of Canada, because that, as you know, would be wrong - one person can't speak for an entire country. Not everyone shares your feelings.
I remember being 15 and visiting my sister in Calgary, going to see the badlands and the next thing I know this video comes along and I see the same places I visited in their video... a powerful memory for me..
@@sceanlyonz4571 Cree... Alan Frew (Glass Tiger's singer) noted "its not only about natives but for all cultures that have been abused for monetary gain"
Loved this song when I first heard it over 20 years ago. Still love it and always will. The words and message are so powerful. This song is spiritual. I wish there could be more music like this.
Unfortunately, I had forgotten about this very talented group until I was sitting in Applebee's having dinner one evening. The song "Don't Forget Me..." was playing on the sound system. I was trying to figure out which group it was. When I got home googled it and the rest is history. Also love the song "Someday".
This song makes me think of the comparison of my mom needing a mask and Grandpa Arguello not needing mask when the Covid my favorite virus was going back to normal.😊
The spirit of the First Nations shall endure...even through the devastating news that we've learned of two unmarked gravesites where the Indigenous Residential Schools once stood in Kamloops, B.C. & Cowessess First Nation, located 160 km east of Regina, SK. To the people of the First Nations...including those who were taken to these residential schools, mostly against their will, & suffered through the horrible abuses there...my heart goes out to you all. Your true heart & soul of Canada will be redeemed a thousand-fold...& I pray that reconciliation shall remain everlasting. Glass Tiger's 'Diamond Sun' is for you all. Don't ever let it go!!!
"WOW"~ Alan Frew has such an amazing, uplifting voice. Glass Tiger has the 80's written all over them. A true lengendary band, and formed just down the road from me. With music this good The Almighty probably has a Glass Tiger cd.
Actually, it was originally written about Africa, and the Apartheid system, and the original title was "African Sun", but thanks to the video production decision to film in Drumheller Alberta Canada, it took on a new meaning, with indiginous peoples being the focus. Love that.
This song is still lovely to listen to this day. The lyrics speaks for itself. This song is more relevent today more than before. People wiping a whole nation out. Greed.A powerful song.
I loved this band in the 80's. Yet hardly anyone seem to know them in Australia aside from their big hit. They had so many good songs. This is just one. Thank you Glass Tiger!
Very much like a "Beatles" production. The song fades in and fades out only to fade in and out again at the end. Very much like "Strawberry Fields Forever". But we are here to explore Glass Tiger. The name suggests something strong and something fragile. A mellowish song with great intensity, especially during the Bridge and the instrumental. My God this is a tasty morsel if there ever was one. "In my heart I believe someday the sun will shine, you shall be free." Oh my heart and soul burns when I hear this song. I hope you are enjoying it, too.
This song is so commanding, so many people should reflect on this as love gives life and life gives love and all we do is kill to prosper. I see no prosperity in the human race just a circle that keeps repeating itself with different circumstances of what is available through the weapons we all have been bondage to and will in yourself not face. Hate, greed, lust, power through trying to control someone else or others to say my way or the highway as I know what is best. My own heart feels and knows that the circle must be broken or their will be an elimination eventually as we will cause it ourselves and we all need to love ourselves enough to break it in ourselves for all living things on the earth.
