I was diagnosed with borderline IOP, 21 mmHg, and my doctor prescribed monoprost drops as a preventive measure to mitigate the risk of having glaucoma. I started but stopped after 2 weeks because of some palpitation issues. It is a very comprehensive presentation but I tend to agree with some commentators who says that scientists are not looking for the root cause of the issue. Being an analyst, I am always looking to treat root cause instead of invasive and heavy controls. Hope some people will focus on it.
That's the point. They have been speaking at conferences and doing clinical trials for more than 10 years and they say they have not found a cure, they say. But the drops and lasers that MAINTAIN THE DISEASE abound! We have to stop being naive. It is difficult to eliminate the market for drops and lasers with a cure.
I participated in the 3rd phase of a study. A pump was inserted in my eye to give me my medication for my Glaucoma. It was successful in lowering the pressure by 2 to 3 levels compared to my non-implanted eye. Having a Glaucoma pump implanted in your eyes would alleviate the need to remember to put drops in your eye each day. It lasted a year. I was informed that it can last up to 3 years with more medication added. Also, I have an intrathecal pain pump for spinal injury.
I take a drop but I also take L-Citrulene which produces nitric oxide which dilates blood vessels and capillaries. It lowers blood pressure since the vascular system flows more efficiently when dilated. Plus more oxygen to the eye.
Everything mentioned is so invasive! Why hasn’t anyone considered using Nutrition which goes into the body and eye without being so invasive? Why not work with Herbal Experts, Nutritionalist?
I've read (and viewed a youtube video) on reduction of IOP with mindfullness meditation, and elimination of caffeine in diet. After having the Xen gel stent surgically implanted 2 months ago, I now have HIGHER IOP, so I would suggest using other alternatives before having a stent implanted. Also, it will save you a lot of money! My ophthalmologist didn't really keep me fully informed about the potential risks. Read the clinical studies first before making your mind up.
It's always good to know about the newer treatments, and to embrace those that are relevant to your situation. But what's wrong in using an eye drop on daily basis, especially when, in case of glaucoma, there's need for periodic examination of the possible changes in the optic nerve head and the visual field?- Editor, Optometry Today
I have taking eye drops for years..palpitations are becoming an issue and I reduced taking the drops and Dr. Is suggesting surgery but stated it is only 75 % effective...will have a 2nd opinion and look into vitamins and nutrition ....must be able to keep eye sight....on another RU-vid video a dr. recommended taking optic nerve vitamins...I would love to avoid surgery but looks like I'm just gonna have to choose which one will be best...I pray for a cure...God bless
My eye pressure is normal there is no pressure but still doctors is saying just start drops there is no other problem my eyes r very dry because of fibromyalgia one opinion is maybe because of this nerve is slightly bend plz help me can I start or wait ..
I am 71 and a patient with Glaucoma, POAG, with a family history, for the last four years; it manifested with water provocation early morning in 2019. The IOP never crossed 16 to 18 and the thickness of Cronea was around 507 and 513um. I was placed on Prostaglandin Analog drops, Travanoprost/Bimatoprost Once a day. In 2020, one early morning, I lost my vision in the Right Eye and was diagnosed, CRVO, and is being treated with regular monitoring with OCT & periodic intravitreal Administration of Accentrix/Eylea. The Glaucoma Specialist in order to reduce the possibilities of CRVO in the other Eye decided to do Peripheral Iridotomy as well. I am now on the Carbonic Hydrase Inhibitor group, Brinzolamide eye drops Three times a day; the IOP remain around 14-15 by Applanation Tonometry. Now I have developed Cataracts in both my eyes and undergoing surgery for that! Should I be thinking of having Glaucoma Surgery along with the Cataract? Amongst MIGS, where does the BANG stand? What are the other options for surgery if surgery is the right option for me? I am messaging from India and am from the medical profession but am not an Ophthalmologist!
I stop using eyedrops because of side effects that they are saying and side effects that "They Don't Know" or side effects that not been told. I've been 2 surgeries on my left eye and 1 surgery on my right eye around 2015 to 2016, until I stop going to theOpthal. and now I still have a blurry eye sight with still a high pressure. I don't have any money to spent for the mrdication and surgeries and I am more scared of many side effects. Still NO CURE and just an invasive control on this glaucoma. Big Pharma want NO CURE. Now I'm trying for an alternative like eye exercise, meditation, massage and hoping it will somehow work.

Had pressure of 27 both eyes. Prescribed Latanoprost and Dorzolamide. Reduced pressures to 15 for about a year. Pressure shot back up. Had laser surgery. Returned pressure back to 14 both eyes for the last 8 years. Dr. insisted I continue taking same prescriptions above after surgery. The logic behind having a successful surgical correction, and continuing to take meds that stopped working makes no logical sense to me. Anyone have any insight into this, beyond the logical assumption that selling eye drops being the objective?
I'm with you, as far as questioning doctors' orders that are pretty blatantly illogical. My own glaucoma has only ever come in very intermittent episodes, at which times taking eye drops has always saved the day. So I question why the eye doc's response is that I should take those eye drops ALL the time. Seems like if anything it will just make my eyes resistant to the medication; surely there are also lifestyle adjustments that would help... So what does the eye doc say when I ask about this? "You're the most non-compliant patient I have ever met! Just take your meds!" Oh right... sounds like he doesn't know. At that point, I typically realize I no longer have enough funds to see that doctor any more. Wait a couple years for the next flare-up, and then go try a different doctor.

I was just diagnosed suspicous open angel glaucoma and they went me to have lazer what about eye drop which one is good and my iop is 16and 15 for the right eye
I have glaucoma in both my eyes and I have to take 4 eye drops everyday 4 times lower my pressures. I'm on latanoprost, brimonidine, Pilocarpine, and dorzolamide- timolol. My new glaucoma specialist is thinking about switching my latanoprost with either rhopressa, lumigan, or Travatan to lower the pressure more in my right eye. I used to be on lumigan when I was first diagnosed with glaucoma. I'm pretty good with taking my eye drops to where my eye pressure has been stable. It's something as a 26 year old that I will have to do for the rest of my life until I'm dead.
So sorry to hear this as I’m 47 and newly diagnosed i know the feeling of fear of this and in praying for this and if it’s ok i keep u in prayer as well
Ladies, I’m on a similar journey at 45, diagnosed at 37. Doing some research on alternatives as I can’t (don’t want to) believe that eye drops are the only option. I’m on the brink of surgery if no improvement by February. I have already had laser treatments to no avail. Like you, I have gone through at least 7 or 8 different types of eye drops in different combinations but they keep failing at maintaining IOP targets. I will start doing everything else that I can on my own which up to this point my specialist doesn’t really think will make a difference. But all in all combined I am hopeful it will help. So far I’ve come across: diet changes, such as more leafy greens and healthy fats, no processed foods, reduce/eliminate sugar (to lower insulin), less/no caffeine, supplements such as black currant, ginkgo biloba, increase water intake throughout the day. Daily exercise, less stress, more sleep, more prayer and some massages I came across here on RU-vid. Apparently people are having good results. Don’t give up, don’t lose hope. As we do everything we know how, let’s pray for our healing, God can do the rest. Our eyes are fearfully and wonderfully made and once a stent goes in there’s no reversal. Take care and all the best!
It's okay I'm used to dealing with glaucoma. I think it would be worse if I had glaucoma and heart disease together but thank God it's only glaucoma that I have to take care of.
Hi, am fr the phils, i have open angle glaucoma seconded to steriod induced glaucoma due to my asthma med since i was a kid, also have cataract both eyes and have high myopia 1150 both eyes with astigmatism, have medication if simbrinza, tafluprost refrigerated and hyabak for dry eyes too, my glau doc recomended that i may undergo selective laser trabeculoplasty, is this ok? Tks
No mention of meditation for lowering eye pressure? And what other natural, free, preventative measures are there? How typical that these things are ignored by the "experts". Surgery and long-term use of medication can't possibly be the future of medicine... If it is that's a pretty dismal failure at discovering the actual root cause of things.
God's mercy nano-grade eye drops should be the last-ditch treatment for open-angle glaucoma. Please browse www.godforeye.com Western medication forever can't effectively treat and reverse open-angle glaucoma because TM (trabecularmesh) will be cross-linked by metabolic wastes, especially AGEs (advanced glycation endproducts).
Yeah, I didn't see them mention that, either. Medications to manage the pain is all good, but what about finding the source of the pain and how to minimize that?
@@stevecarroll588 its going it seems his good eye is leaking more but maybe its relievung the preuuse. He takes zero meds as he had all side effects that came w both drops and could have been deadly for him. If his eyes go he still has his health and that is the main thing!
Nope......:) Eye drops currently seem much simpler with fewer side effects. The worse thing is the brand names that are more tolerable are expensive and insurance does not want to pay.
Yes, "the end of eye drop is more complicated solutions". I didn't get the logic of this presentation. I love scientific innovation but I prefer eye drops. Not the end of the world to use it.
