I wish I had found natural glaucoma videos like this years ago, when I was first discovered that I had high eye pressure, which has been consistently 27/28 in the last 4 years. When I asked my ophthalmologist about natural ways to lower IOP such as supplements, his answer was that only eye drops are proven to help. After recently discovering videos like this, I have been doing eye massages everyday for the last 2 weeks, in addition to taking the Amazing Grass superfood powder, and wild salmon fish oil. I also used pycnogenol and billberry. I have also been walking more briskly lately for exercise, and intermittent fasting for the last 6 months. I had my eyes checked again yesterday, and to my amazement and the surprise of the assistant, my eye pressure went down to left 20 / right 23! I feel like a combination of things are working, not knowing which is most effective, and I will continue to do them. Intuitively, I feel like the eye massages helped a lot, where at least the eyes feel more relaxed afterward. I incorporated different massage and acupressure videos for glaucoma that I found on RU-vid. I hope this helps. God bless!
My meditation is prayer day and night❤ Thank you doc so much for this video it’s a big help especially to those people who were diagnosed with borderline glaucoma like me. I will remind myself to follow your good advice! Thank you doc again! Glory to God!❤😇
I just had my eye exam this past week. I have excellent blood pressure. Always have. This year, I opted for more extensive exam for my optic nerves.. my doctor noticed that my right eye has a lot more pressure than it should for some reason. She told me to not worry about it. that she will compare with next year. Hell no! I asked her what I can do. She said there is no way to really prevent glaucoma. She told me there was really nothing I can do except for take an exam in six months and then another one so that she can compare them all. I said that would make it a full year of not doing diddly squat. Now I am watching your video and I see that there is plenty that I can do. I honestly don’t understand why more. Doctors are not this helpful. It’s sad. I’m a little bit pissed off. She gave me no other options. Except for getting another exam in six months. I see now that I have plenty of things that I can do just by following any or all of these suggestions. Thank you.
@@Learner-lq3vu absolutely! I’ve been tested 3 times since I was diagnosed ( and requested repeated testing … which was provided) Actually, this very day I was tested again and zero glaucoma was detected. Zero. My first optometrist just told me I had it in one eye and nothing could be done but monitoring it every 6 months. I became very despondent until I did my own research and followed the most reliable sources such as this to address and heal my eye.. I pray you have the same healing experience.
@@Realalma actually I am on the same boat as you. My eye doctor recently tested my eye with oct report and they are saying that you have early glaucoma in both eye. I was shocked to hear that I am myopic patient with -2.00 in right eye and -1.75 in left eye. I dont have any family history of glaucoma. They even gave me lumigen eye drop. Currently I am not using it. I want it to be confirmed by another ophthalmologist. I cant tell you all day I am thinking about this glaucoma thing my life became hell. I hope I dont have this thing.
I’ve been sleeping in a high back chair for six months. My sleep is deeper and longer. I wake up with more rested and relaxed eyes…and my sinuses (both nostrils) are open. Doing breathing exercises before sleep (in the high back chair) appears to greatly increase my sleep. FYI, sleeping in a high back chair was recommended after a glaucoma and cataract treatment was performed.
It’s so ironic that I just saw a TikTok video with a lady saying you have to clear the mucus from your sinuses to assist with relieving the pressure in the eyes. People trashed her in the comments. My mother was diagnosed. I’ve been trying to find natural remedies for hours
Doc, I’m an OD in Massachusetts and really enjoy your podcasts. Really great tips for how to communicate complex topics to patients. You are a very talented young man.
Great video! I'm glad you're one of the eye doctors that recommends helping eye issues in ways that are natural, including diet, exercise and natural herbs. So many people in the medical community are still sold on the, "Here's a pill. Take this, and go." You're looking at healing at the root. You deserve major props for it! Please keep it up.
Do you know my doctor Haha.....That's what he says every time I mention that I would like other options to get off the medication...His response....you will be on meds for the rest of your life.
I just had my eyes checked and dental cleaning but still nothing beats year round preventive habits to maintain our health and organs! Thank you! really enjoy your vlogs. Sometimes I just close my eyes and listen like a podcast. 😃
Thank you Doc, watching from Cebu City, Philippines. Had gkaucoma for the past 26 yrrs. Had surgery on both eyes. Can still see but blurry due to cataract, too.
I am curious , too. I started rebounding 5 years ago. I do a gentle bounce daily for about 5-10 minutes a day. Have experienced positive things but am concerned there might be some negative consequences. Anybody have concerns?
Thank you, Doctor! It's so good to have a professional telling us how to do things naturally. You + Doctor Allen Mandell have helped me so much more than any local doctor anywhere I've ever lived has. In a serious way, I mean it. Bless you!!
I'm 76 years old who has a Gloucoma since 1998, I used Xalacom with Timolol since then. my eye pressure is good , I'm still using this eye drops until now and where I was diagnose of Gloucoma prescribed when I was working in Hongkong in 1998. Thank you so much for sharing more additional food supplement to prevent high pressure. Have a blessed Sunday to you All.
Thank you, my medicine for asthma says there is a risk of glaucoma. I have to breathe tho. Good thing you mentioned exercise can have risks. A girl I know who was competitive starting a new exercise program was going to hard. She had a hemoragic stroke and passed away from the overexertion.
Excellent! Thank-you! So appreciate an insightful, open-minded discussion about studies that support a more natural approach to prevention and treatment, in conjunction with traditional practices. Be well.
Our new born baby affected glacumo for both eye.. Born Day the pressure is 60 for right eye and 45 for left eye.. Now glacumo surgery is done .. Now both eye pressure is 21.. But eye is cloud now.. Many doctors say my baby vision chance is low.. Very very sad feel that I heared.. Tell me please.. My baby has a chance to vision or not??? 😢😢😢😢
Checking in on the replay from CA. I’ve had ocular hypertension for many years and I’ve been watched as a suspect with no active glaucoma. Being monitored and tested regularly with my ophthalmologist. So I’m interested in things that can help lower eye pressures.
Thanks for putting this together. I've got to research this topic to help my father who has been told he may go blind. He's not eating well so I'm going to stay with him for a bit and be a diet fascist. Your information is going to be a help in reducing that IOP, and in my fortitude! Thank you, I'd like this twice if I could.
Good day, Doctor Allen!! Watching from Canada- What are the most up to date treatments in 2023 for glaucoma (IOP) & cataracts, that actually work to restore vision completely.other than what you recommend. Do you connect with optometrists, opthalmologists, in Canada? (I am researching IOP treatments/cataract laser treatment that would work best for these eye conditions) Thanks for this information!!! Cheers & have a great day!!!🥰🥰🦅🦅
Hi Dr. Thanks going this live. I’ve actually sent you a DM on IG just a few days ago. I have a number of eye impairments/ diagnosis that’s id really like your thoughts on. I hope to hear back from you.
Hey thanks Sarah! I will keep an eye out for it, however I do get a lot of messages on IG and so I am not sure if I will see it. As always, it will be best to consult a local eye care professional for personalized care.
Thank you for the informative videos. You provide suggestions that complement conventional treatments. As a vegetarian I do follow most of the diet advice but my question is about supplements. Do they work? We read about bilberry, saffron, lutein, ginkgo Biloba. Are they worth taking ?
Hey Dr. Allen! Thank you so much for bringing such wonderfully informative videos which really help a lot! Just became curious to know if you are an hsp! You are such a pure hearted soul! 😃☺️
Wow! Thank you for asking! I actually had to look that up first to be sure what you were referencing too (medicine has too many acronyms). But yes, I am very much an HSP. it has it's pros and cons. You?

I've heard that green smoothies can encourage kidney stones. I like to cook my kale or greens (mustard, turnip and collards) and season them with garlic powder and Better than Bullion even use a bit of Bragg's aminos before eating. Tastes good to me.
OOOh that sounds great!!!! There is some reported concerns of eating greens and the development of kidney stones but the doctors I have spoken to have told me that is rarely seen and not a concern. In fact the number one cause of kidney stones comes from people NOT eating enough vegetables and not drinking enough water. Some people don't digest oxylates well and in those cases spinach is recommended to avoid but all the other greens are still great. But as always, best to consult a local health professional if you are concerned.
I've heard supplementing with calcium helps mitigate the absorption of oxylates. Also, steaming greens helps to get rid of a significant amount of oxylates from the greens themselves.
@@snicklefritzfry Check that out again from different sources. There is plenty of calcium in vegetables. Most doctors say do not supplement with calcium because too much in your system will lead to hardening of the arteries and heart attack. Get your calcium in natural form from a good amount of leafy greens every day. Also, if you do take calcium (please don’t) you need vitamin K with it to be safe.
Due to high blood pressure and extremely high cholesterol, my dietician friend told me i was in line for a stroke, this was 10 years ago. Since then, I started on smoothies along with adding more salads to my diet, my BP and cholesterol have been excellent. I start everyday with 1 leaf organic kale, 1 banana, ice, water, very simple recipe, blend with the grinding blades. Later, i experimented with coconut and/or 1/4 Avocado, delicious! I've never had any stones. I believe this juice is a healer. It even makes me feel more balanced and healthy immediately after, it's crazy.
Greetings from Austria! This is a video I was waiting for! Stream aired at 2am so I watched this the next morning. My questions: - What about Omega 3? I read somewhere it helps protect the optical nerve ... - What about the cannabinoid CBG? Cannabis used to be "the" classic application for medical cannabis once upon a time, right? Seems contemporary sources suggest if at all it is the CBG compound that is beneficial?
Hey Thank you!!! 1. Omega 3 studies are a bit mixed when it comes to glaucoma, not many studies looking at it specifically. But it has been found to be helpful for the retina and many cases of dry eye disease. For retinal disease, it helps reduce inflammation, such as in cases of diabetic retinopathy. So the idea is sound, but I don't have any studies to recommend a certain amount to take. 2. I will have to look more into CBG specifically. The use of medical marijuana has been studies for glaucoma for over 60 years, however, the effects are reported to be rather transient and there are concerns over smoking substances and causing more damage to the body. Enough so that I have never heard of a glaucoma specialist write a prescription for medical marijuana, other treatments are just far safer and more cost effective. As far as edibles and supplements, I am not sure of studies showing the effects on IOP. But I imagine it could have some effect on reducing stress lol
Im 64 and glaucoma suspect (hereditary). All I do is annual screening. Beginning to see flashes of light. Thanks very much for insightful eye opening engagement. Seeing my opthalmologist soon, this time, with wealth of info from your video. Thanks ever so much.🎉
Not only do I have to eat healthy for glaucoma, but I have a syndrome called polycystic ovary syndrome. In order to treat it, I have to adapt a healthy lifestyle to improve the symptoms like my insulin level and blood pressure and keep my glucose low and other things in my blood.
As an ophthalmologist who treats thousands of patients with glaucoma I do feel compelled to contribute here. Some of the things mentioned here MAY have some potential benefit for glaucoma patients but by and large, the data here is mixed, meaning some studies showed benefit and others did not. Also know that some of these supplements have potential side effects, such as increased risk for bleeding, particularly if taken in large quantities. Please understand that these remedies are meant to SUPPLEMENT the medical and/or surgical treatments recommended by your treating physician. Please do not rely on these suggestions alone to manage your glaucoma.
Dr. Allen, thanks for sharing all the best topics & information about Eye issues & benefits on your RU-vid channel! the norm of visiting doctors today is either virtual or, at the office for a very limited time! Doctors don’t have time to explain the situation to their patients. They think writing a prescription is all the patients want !! That is so sad. Thanks to the internet & thanks to you & other sources of information we can educate ourselves.
I am 69yrs old and was diagnosed 10yrs ago and thanx for the good tips you just shared. Q: 1.Do you get too sensitive to the sun due to Glaucoma, 2.what vitamins do you recommend to a person with Glaucoma. 3.Does your glaucoma get worse if you are a Thyroid patient?
Hey I appreciate that! It is very time and energy consuming. But It makes me feel good to share my knowledge. It also helps push me professionally and I feel I am a better doctor because of it.
Thank God i was looking for natural encounter for my eye but thank you i love your knowledge and graceful with it God bless you continue to teaches us to move form fear to the reality of life
I had floaters and cataract that were bothering me and had an appointment for consultation about cataract surgery, I got prayer at a church and my vision cleared up immensely, but decided to go ahead to the appointment, my vision was fine and Doc said he did see floater ( I had many before) and didn’t act like I need cataract surgery yet because he only said if they aren’t bothering you then … why , but then decided to give me a glaucoma test ( probably just because Medicare pays for it is what I think ) anyway it was like a computer game you click when you see the lights after this test I started seeing other floaters ! I’m Wondering if this test caused them
Hello dr .. One of my colleague is using glucomal 0.5 eye drop since last 4 months …So can he start meditation along with the current eye drop ? And if yes ,then what should be the duration of meditation? Thanks
Overall eye health is important. While I have glaucoma, it has not deteriorated in about a decade since when an eye doctor told me that a Bausch and Lomb pill will halt macular degeneration (not reverse already existing damage; mother had that). Since then, and for about a decade, I've been taking Bausch & Lomb PreserVision AREDS 2 with Multi vitamin and have not needed new eyeglasses either and I'm 72. Not any kind of medical pro, but I would personally recommend anyone/everyone discussing those pills with their own eye doctor to see if they're a good idea for you. Protecting your eyes from glare is important, too.
My paternal grandpa had glaucoma & lost his vision & had one eye enucleated. My father also had glaucoma, but lost no vision. He had laser treatments. My spouse was diagnosed with glaucoma at age 40 & lost no vision for 40 years. I visit my eye doctor annually and do not have glaucoma. Thankfully. My siblings & daughter go each year to eye doctor, too.

Hi, I am a 56 years woman… Ignore the picture of the young man that’s my son😊 I had a surgery in 2007 to implant a corrective lens at the back of my left eye, but had much complication there after. And since I’ve been using glaucoma drops for my left eye, Since then, I opted out of having them do the surgery on my right eyes. Just for a little bit of history :-). So I wear contact lens in my right eye with a prescription Eye glasses as well. Here lately when I take my lens out I’ve been seeing rainbows around lights and when I wake up in the morning, my vision is pretty blurry until about mid afternoon. I also have complication reading because of the blur vision. I guess my question is what could be causing the halo around lights and blurred vision? I am also seeing floaters like a coating hanging down from the ceiling.
Avoid dry eye compresses that are TOO HOT. I have a theory that it somewhat cooks your eyes and causes obstruction in the trabecular mesh work and drainage areas. Just a theory….since I did way too hot compresses. PS. After using Protopic (tacrimilus ointment) on my eye lids, my inflammation went down and the oil tear film got better.
@@motorsandbikes I did experience this. It took years before my dermatologist prescribed a six week course of pro topic. No more warm/hot compresses. Only use mild (dove sensitive) soap when washing face. So far, so good. I do use Restasis twice a day. Ivizia natural tears as well.
I had dry eyes and in that period before it got better I did the warm compress but I noticed white stuff surrounding the corner of the clear part of both eyes, did you notice anything similar
I am 38 and before 4 days i was diagnosed with proglaucoma suspicious. Super scared and depressed to lost my vision in both eyes. Doctor suggested me laser SLT but i am afraid a lot.
There are several studies that have proven that vitamins of any sort that are NOT whole food sourced, actually increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and mortality rates. Even vitamins like vitamin E, and vitamin C. Look at what nutrients are in AREDS, and then research what food sources are high in those nutrients. From there, incorporate it into your diet. I follow the Loren Cordain paleo diet, and that has literally made a WORLD of a difference in my health, particularly my eye health.
Thank you for sharing. I just came from an optometrist appt in which I learned I had very high eye pressure. The Dr said there aren't any ways to reverse it and basically glaucoma is inevitable- meaning there's not much I could do to prevent further degeneration but I refuse to believe there's nothing that can be done. Btw I know the very act of seeking this info out is confirmation bias but this is objectively solid information. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for the information. I’m being treated for glaucoma in my left eye, but my right eye has too much trauma in it, since I had surgeries on my right eye over the years and can’t have the laser treatment. The right eye has has a thicker cornea,I guess because of the trauma, but my surgeon feels that because it wasn’t thick at birth, it doesn’t have the benefit that usually thicker corneas have. Is this true, or is it possible that I still have the benefit of a thicker cornea, even though it was due to trauma. Thank you so much for your time. Peter. (I also heard about non-drug hydrogel. Is there anything to this?)
I’m sorry, Dr., I just had one more question. If you don’t mind, my surgeon feels reluctant to do Migs on my right eye, should I need treatment, because of potential risk. I’m too afraid of the medication. Is Migs surgery? Very risky? Thanks, Peter. (Loved your video.)
I’m a coffee drinker. Too much coffee increases eye pressure and bp. What do you think of some eyedrops for glaucoma causing eyelid allergies? How to take care of this problem? I have this problem.
I have had glaucoma since I was 33 years old. My dad went blind to it and his mom had it as well. I have been on drops (Lumigan) for 20 years but insurance will no longer cover it. I still have a bunch of drops left, so when I am done, I will go on another type of drop. Hopefully it will keep my pressure down. Thanks for all of the great information!!
Is Fennel seeds half a teaspoon chewed daily bad when taking eye drops for high blood pressure. Was told I have to have eye drops one a night. Than you for your reply doctor.
Thanks dr. This subject is very timely for me since I Have allergic reactions to a few of the eye drops and haven't found one that I can use as of yet.
The last few weeks I experienced blurriness on my right eye, I’ve been seeing an ophthalmologist finally few days ago they ran a vision field test,!! I’ve been so stressed regarding the blurriness on my eye!! I’ve been so stressed regarding the blurriness on my eye!!!Thank you for taking the time to educate us!
Is the blurriness from the stress or something else? I had really blurry eyes onset after worrying about my vision. Went to eye doctor. Have contacts on and glasses on the way. PLUS going to glaucoma specialist likely narrow angle like my mom and sister but we will see. Doc said the blurriness wasn’t from my glaucoma so likely hyper focused and freaking out what is wrong with eyes. Maybe anxiety and panic attacks. If so don’t feel alone and breath lightly and evenly and r-e-l-a-x until you see your doctor.
Hi Doctor, thank you for posting such an informative video. I have closed angle glaucoma. My doctor has performed laser procedure to avoid sudden pressure buid up. I am using Monoprost, which seems to be working fine for me. Glaucoma in my right eye is in an advanced stage with some peripheral vision loss. Overall, my eyesight is 20/20. I sleep on right side and I have observed that I have occasional headache on right side. Although it goes away on its own. Should I change my sleeping position? And what is an effective way to do that? Your valuable advice is highly appreciated. Cheers
I went blind in my left eye with glaucoma. If I look back I realise I should have gone for regular eye checks. In my youth I couldn’t afford to pay for eye tests and glasses. Also my doc knew I had high blood pressure because it was checked every six months when I went for my pill description but it never got treated. Eventually the high blood pressure caused a thrombosis in the back of my eye.

I’m 27 from Nigeria. I lost my vision on my right eyes. I was booked for surgery but I can’t because I’m scared. We don’t reply have professional here for that and other are extremely expensive. What can I do to my eyes to last years. I’m too young to go blind
Your video is very helpful. I am 60 yo and was diagnosed narrow angle 2 years ago. I am seeing the eye doctor every 8 to 10 months. I live in Oakland, CA. A few months ago, I noticed some flashes of light when I move from a light to a darker place. I also started having flashes of light when I cough at night with my eyes closed. I saw my doctor just a month ago and she said that this is not to be worried about. I also have floaters since about a year ago. I am really scared of losing my vision. I know there is a laser procedure to help the narrow angle and the flow of the liquid in the eye, but they told me that I do not need this procedure yet. I do not know what to do. Please advise. Thanks a lot.
Good question, I have not seen too much research on this, but I believe I did see that CBD might increase eye pressure. But perhaps I should do a video on marijuana/ thc/cbd and the affects on the eye.
I can tell you I've been taking CBD oil and it's helped me. I could actually feel when my pressure was bad & my doctor did tell me and I've an appt with a specialist but I did take CBD oil after not being able to sleep. Before I couldn't lay because it felt weird but I've felt nothing the last 2 days.
Great info !! Thank you ! My pressure is good but I made an appt with a eye doctor because the mussel in my left eye is thicker than my right eye and I was told that it could be an indicator, a pre cursor to glaucoma ? 9/1/23’
Thank you Doc for your presentation on natural remedies. Would you be presenting a video session on how to sleep appropriately to lower IOP? I read an article by National Foundation for Glaucoma on sleeping on your back and wearing glasses lower IOP and the glasses kept the person from applying pressure on their infected eye or eyes. Also a presentation on measurement IOP different as you stand, sit, and lie down on your spine. Thank you in advance.

Doctor, I want to discuss my case of dry eye, I was suffering from dry eye and get all possible treatment with all major eye hospital of India but nothing worked for me, later on my research I found that it may be something related to Long covid, I have started taking medicine for long covid and my dry eye significantly improved, my eye drop requirements is also reduced, a lot of patients of dry eye are suffering in silence without realising that it's is related to long covid as long covid is altering inflammation mechanism of body, please disclose it to normal public, and let me know if I can do something as a patient
Long covid is rather interesting. I even questioned if It was something I was experiencing. I have no doubts that long covid can worsen the symptoms of dry eye considering the change in inflammatory responses. It is tough to say what will help dry eyes from long covid as we don't have a complete understanding of the condition yet or best courses for treatment. It may take a combined treatment approach of using several treatments at once. I wish I could be of more help, but ultimately you will do best by consulting with a local eyecare professional who can give you personalized, in person treatment.
@ Linda - Vitamin A is essential for retinal health and diets rich in vitamin A have been correlated to reduced risk of glaucoma and several eye diseases. However, I dug pretty deep into Vitamin A and its relationships to ocular health - such as eyesight and dry eye. My concern is that most people in the developed world are not anywhere near vitamin A deficiency, in fact, some people can have TOO much vitamin A. You can overdose on Vitamin A - it can cause significant health issues - even vision loss. While some people do have dry eye from vitamin A deficiencies, these cases are usually people who are severely malnourished, or have a problem absorbing vitamin A, such as from gastric bypass surgery.
@@DoctorEyeHealth I am not a medical professionals but i am telling my experience, I had left all my dry eye related past medicine and currently only taking artificial tear, along with long covid medication and supplement still my situation is improving, it's seem my dry eye was due to long covid only.
