Pottery studio! Glazing day. Mugs. Dipping and pouring glaze. Just a quick tutorial on how I glaze my functional pottery. Here I am using a Chun Blue glaze on Lauguna B-mix(without grog) and firing to cone 5 at medium speed with a 1 hour preheat.
Yup, the studio is still a mess.. I promise to get to it..next year! ;)

Don't listen to the naysayers. I like the fact that your videos aren't edited. That is what working in a studio or on a project is like. A person forgets to have everything on hand, or doesn't always glaze perfectly without missing a spot. We get to see your workspace at your own studio/gallery space. Makes your videos more personal. Thanks for the videos and information. I have a BFA and a B Ed and taught ceramics in high school for many years along with other art diciplines. I fell in love with ceramics in my 3rd year other than art major choice and bought a wheel within 4 weeks and a kiln within another 2. If I had ceramics in high school I am sure ceramics would have been my major in my BFA. One can always learn, no matter how old you are or how long you have been exploring your interest.

I prefer unedited videos, you get to see the real person and I like what you do. Great. Bob 🇬🇧

This video was made a year before I discovered it but one of the many reasons that I love your work and videos, is the fact that you don't edit, and that you show us your unedited studio life. Mistakes happen, haven't see a lot or any in your series, but seeing mistakes is important in life. Thank you Jessica Putnam-Phillips. You are helping us Pottery people.

I just mixed up this glaze, after watching your video, and my wife wants to know how you apply the Chun? Thick, thin, does it run?

I have a saying, one video a day of Jessica's. You're so real ! Keep them coming. I'm just getting back into my clay after a 30 year or more absent. I've never fired my own pieces. I now have 2 electric Kilns. Could you do a video explaining what cones are, how to use them and what determines the number cone is used. I think it means that the glaze has to melt to a certain cone depending on the glaze. Do you have to fire to cone 4 bisque?? I'm not sure..

Your videos are honest and straight to the point, no BS, Keep them coming, don't worry about them being unedited, it's part of the magic,

Your video here answered a question of mine, I have bought several mugs online recently in the last year, and they all have a similar issue with the glaze being patchy. It seems the manufacturer did not do that final dip for the rim and the top of the handle, and maybe didn't completely do enough glaze on the inside. I would imagine that's a health risk, and I'm not comfortable drinking out of these mugs, to be honest. Of course, TeeSpring was one of them, and you can't really leave a review on their site without an account, go figure.

Excellent video. You once asked for video suggestions. Looking at your cups, they look pretty even, so what is your secret to making them the same size. They is videos out there on other potters work, but it would be good to see your style. Of course wieght, but do you use measuring stick?

Hi Daryl, I use the same amount of clay for each cup which helps and lots of practice. When I was first learning I did use a measuring stick, it is a great tool to get consistent results. Unless I have an order where they have to be exactly the same size I don't measure any more.

Hi Jessica, I made a batch of Chun blue Glaze, used the amount of colorant called for "I think" and it turned out with just a hint of color can I add more colorant to this glaze or make a new batch with more color.
