I agree. When I watch this scene I (of course cry) but I just feel betrayed by the universe for taking Cory way to soon. It's like he said at Will/Emma's aborted wedding. You and I are end game. And they were - as Katie said the world is far too cruel.
This episode is where I noticed Cory starting to look 'different', his face more stressed & his weight down, from his real-life troubles with drugs. Later in the season there was an offhand remark about his weight loss, he said "I've been dieting'. Sad
I sadly noticed it as soon as he returned in S4 and it worried me knowing the movie he was shooting that made him miss the first couple episodes. I don't think he should have made that movie (and I never have and never will watch it). The director initially said no to him, and he should have stuck to that because I think it was the beginning of his relapse.
@@gd3098 but remember she always said that’s what everyone assume they never knew the real truth behind it and also remember her saying she regret not asking him if he was ok
Finn totally underestimated Rachel in this whole situation. He came back after 4 months expecting the doe eyed girl from Lima but instead he got the made over NY version of Rachel Berry. I understand what he did at the ended of Season 3 but maybe if he had contacted her in those 4 months he was backpacking in Georgia or wherever she wouldn't have resented him as much.
People always forget she was only staying in Lima for him. He ended up making all these decision for her and thank god here she finally did what was best for herself for once in that relationship.
LMandthings it’s true I mean nobody in this life is going to be like 4. Months without talking with their couple and then coming back like nothing we’re happend she even though he left for 4. Months without saying a word or answering a call , she accepted him again like if nothing were happend and then he do this thing again I’ was glad she over tht relationship at tht time it was becoming toxic they needed to do this for a while
amesha nageswaran I was actually thinking abt that today! They were dating during this and had to pretend to break up.Also did you know they dated at the end of season 2 all of season 3 and all of season 4 up until he died in real life
“No matter what I become... When it comes to you I’m always gonna be that moon-eyed girl that freaked you out at your first Glee rehearsal.” That line cuts so deep. So many people have that *first love* where despite how long ago it was, they always make you feel like that kid in high school/college still figuring out life. Brilliant writing.
I don't mean to disrespect her acting. I think Lea is an amazing actress and one of the best in Glee, but she just doesn't seem like Rachel in this scene because her appearance and the way she talks changed so dramatically due to the magical makeover she had in the previous episode. She doesn't sound like the crazy Rachel in high school, she sounds like a mature adult in this scene.
This is the best scene Lea did in this show. The raw emotion in this monologue is incredible, she really nailed the exact moment where Rachel stops talking to Finn like a highschool girl and is now a grown woman. As the audience I absolutely felt that and it mirrors the moment where you realize you make hard and painful but mature decisions that are better for you instead of just going with the flow like you used to.
@@lemonade507 you're just saying that because you hate lea lol. The shouting was necessary because she was frustrated and angry. Literally just something to pick on because you hate lea lol
@@lemonade507 because if your boyfriend didn't respond to you for 3-4 months and lied to you about where he was you'd probably be pissed and shout to. And you're only just saying it because you hate Rachel 😂
1:36 her words made me realize how strong she truly was. I had seen countless female characters being portrayed as damsels in distress, never had I heard them stand up for their worth-saying they were their own person who could handle it themselves. Rachel telling Finn that she was a grown woman who didn't need him to make choices for her was inspiring.
I agree with you about the fact that there are countless female characters being portrayed as damsels in distress in tv shows and movies. But I've never seen Rachel that way tho. I mean I also think Finn keep making decisions for the "couple" is kinda selfish. But I think that has nothing to do with him being the knight to save her. It was more like an implication of his lack of confidence as a loser(at least that was what he thought of himself). On the other hand Rachel had a bright future.
I definitely agree with you that in this situation it's one of the few times she's in the right. I still can't like Rachel though, how she acted in a majority of the seasons just ticked me off so much I could never get over it.
More like how selfish she was! Everything always had to be about Rachel. And if it wasn't, she got pissed & threw one of her tantrums. She never understood how hard it was for Fin to do what he did. And she never understood what he was going through when he returned.
And IMO both Rachel and Lea did but they had to stick to the script with Rachel sticking to her convictions and giving him the chance to become the man she was in love with again. And that was on it's way until we lost Cory.
I always thought of Rachel as super annoying, but this was one of those times where I really saw her as a grown woman. She was standing up for herself and doing one of the hardest things to do. I dont know if I'd have the strength to tell finn off like that, but she did it. And it was such a sad, good for her moment, where you really just see how different they are, but also how much they really love eachother. Breaks my heart every time I watch it, but it's still one of my favorite glee scenes ever.
Tash Surgenor We all want that, but we can’t really bring him back and we have to do is jus to always remember him for what he is and how he is because we all treasured him deeply and that’s why we can’t really bring him back because he will always be in our hearts 💕 because he is like superman and he has captured our hearts 💕 by the way of how he is and we should thank our God for bringing him into our lives because he touched our hearts and our souls entirely
I'm sad that Finn and Rachel didn't get there happily ever after however in the end she did fall in love again and married jesse a guy that loved her as much as Finn so I happy she married Jesse because beside Finchel stbery was my fave couple
jess griffiths Did you ever think something like this Jesse is Finn like from inside of him because sometimes we do have some little parts of other people from within us and that’s a good thing to have because in this show Rachel wanted to soooo perfect and Finn is a normal type of a person, but he tried to be perfect enough for Rachel, but he couldn’t do it because he jus can’t and then we come to Jesse and Jesse is perfect for Rachel and which is why that Jesse is the host and Finn gets consumed into Jesse like making him 2 be like part normal and part perfect and so it’s like that he has the best of both worlds
Im a person they are toghether did u watch glee dummmy y u talk if u dont know anythin yet? You. Are just making people to not watch beacuse it ended up not toghether so... GET IT RIGHT HONEY BOO BOO! AND NEXT TIME CHECK WHAT HAPPEND BEACUSE YOU JUST RUINED IT FOR ME WHEN IM HALF WAY THERE WHAT A SHAME OF YOUR SELF 😖😖😖✌✌✌PEACE OUT!!!!$$$$$$
Even after the fight and the break up, Rachel still believes in Finn more than anything. I’m heartbroken at how finchel ended. I know they were supposed to get back together and get married in season 6 but.... oh how I miss these two 💔
Zera Jeffry yeah Is Rachel’s fault because of brody that is why Finn should drugged him don’t know how they break up Rachel sing a song roots before branches she was on the train and see Finn running
“And I want more than anything for you to be my last” Okay that line was absolutely real. With the real life context this is one of the most tragic scenes on TV in my opinion.
Daniel Blair yes I know that. Actually Corey was 30+ if I remember correctly. Which blows my mind why they would cast actors much older than the age of the characters. But that’s a Hollywood thing.
They always cast 5-7 years older especailly in shows like this, real teenagers voices break and they grow and it would too hard to continuously film with puberty, however a fully matured adult is a lot easier to work with so normally they make them look younger
Daniel Blair it would also be realistic seeing as teenagers do go grow during high school. Corey Monteith was 26-27 playing a 15-16 boy. There are plenty of teenage actors able to portray teenagers. I definitely did not look the same as I did when I was a freshman and then a senior. Keep in mind, people age differently. Also, Hollywood does not like to cast teenagers for teenage roles because they have baby like faces. For example, The Hunger Games, had Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson been cast at 16 years old we,as an audience, would be horrified because cmon those are kids up there which, overall, is the point. Now I get that Ryan Murphy wanted to give them adult storylines and make them out to be mature but this was ridiculous in terms of casting. These actors were full grown adults except for Chris Colfer. Chris Colfer was 17-18 when he was cast as 15 year old Kurt which turned out to be super successful since he won the Golden Globe for his role keep in mind, none of his cast mates won that played characters the same age as him did. Chris Colfer was not a fully matured adult, not even allowed to drink at the ceremony yet. Thankfully Hollywood is learning that the casting of adults in teenage roles is out the window.
Oh yeah, it sucks, as a young person trying to become an actor it's hard for me to get work, becuase no one wants an 18 year old, they all want 20 years plus, I'm struggling so hard to get screen or stage work. It would be more accurate but casters don't see it that way
Bruh, the breakups really matured as the seasons went on Rachel really went through a very humbling journey from going to the top. Reaching stardom and throwing it all away and seeing the consequences of Happily Ever after. Her transformation to the sort of mentor and teacher she kinda is in Season 6 to the new cast is very evident in Season 4. Also, wow Lea knows how to act
Clara Alvarez actually it's not. It's from the episode in Nationals season 5 where they sang Finn's favorite songs. Idk why that makes me cry. I think its cause they were my favorite songs too idk.
This was a very important moment for Rachel. Throughout all three previous seasons Finn was the one who held the power, who decided if they were together or not. But here Rachel finally asserts her right to make decisions about their relationship too. The power dynamic has shifted and she’s the more desirable one out in the world. Although as she’s stated herself, she will always see their relationship through the original lense where she’s lucky to be with him.
Ok, I’m not a fan of Lea Michelle, but her acting in this scene is top notch. Maybe she thought of the scene as not of Rachel and Finn, but as Lea and Cory. Idk, but the emotion feels so real.
it's probably the most emotional scene on glee... lea and cory are so great actors and all that you can do is just cry. and after there is " the scientist" and whoooaaa it is so saaad when you realize that cory died so young. lea/cory or rachel/finn they are endgame
rashad sims The love is still there. You can see it clear as day. I think the thing that’s missing is the motivation to keep going and maintain their relationship.
Years gone by after I first watch it Now I experienced every emotion Rachel been through This scene just perfectly voice out all my feeling of my recent broke up...
I mean accurate in my experience. All my breakups that were amicable either ended with sex or making out after the conversation. Always felt like a nice goodbye and one last time kinda thing. Maybe that's just me and my experiences tho.
It was hard to watch without crying, and knowing that they never got back together before he passed away in the show. I mean, it probably felt more miserable in real life, but it was a hard food to chew on when I watched like it really happened.
I can't believe Riverdale tried to imitate Glee...every single one of those actors can't even hold a candle to a masterpiece like this. The raw emotion in this scene blows away everything in the entire season 3 of Riverdale.
Those things Corey said, comparing himself to “Brody” had some basis in real life. He talked about feeling self conscious about not being fit and shape like the other guys on glee (even though I always thought he was incredibly handsome) and he didn’t graduate from high school at all. This is one of the glee songs/scenes that affects me the most.
This is pure redemption for me...Its like my tormented soul has flied away from my body , only to breathe life to Rachel's drama. I wholeheartedly identify with Her thoughts, her feelings, the way she perceives her love for him, how she handles the situation. And him.. both of them, the acting- it's as great as the truth; greater than how we experience it. I'm in tears
I just realised that this scene is Referring to their first song on glee not as Rachel and Finn but as Lea and Cory, Cory once said in an interview that Lea Freaked him out. And he also said that he has no direction, and in this scene Cory says he has no Direction, Where as Lea is Rich and Famous, just like Rachel says here. Their LOVE is Exactly what It is in the show, Cory Monteith really Brought out the best in Lea Michele, just like Rachel and Finn ❤❤
Hannah Vance i also feel bad for rachel tho he kept leading her on without confirming their relationship, i feel like he wasnt clear on where she stood with him after that scene at the train station
even though they didn’t get to end up together, finn taught her so much. she learned how to love with all of her soul. people always tore her down, and it was finn who would raise her up again. finn is the one who helped her discover that she truly could be loved. he helped her find confidence and he helped her find herself. i know they weren’t a perfect couple (let’s be real- no couple on glee is perfect) but they really did so much for each other. they really did love each other.
@@GA-fn8hr i’m not trying to not give her credit? i’m only talking about what he did for her because that’s what this scene is about. she’s literally talking about everything he did for her, so i’m doing the same? don’t come in here with that bs.
@@bails2825 It is about her finally taking control and getting a voice. If it was a truly good relationship it should be about how they helped and shared with each other. She hardly got a say in it so it was nice she finally did.
@@GA-fn8hr they did help each other though. . she was finally getting her voice, but she was also expressing how grateful she was for everything he did for her and taught her. i don’t get the point you’re trying to make right now
This season. Of glee was Corey best acting !!! He grown since the first season of glee although he was struggling with drugs !!! His voice sounded so beautiful in this season of glee !!! It hurts knowing that he is gone and the fact that naya was found on his anniversary makes it even harder
This was one of the few times I was like YES RACHEL. like I feel like she was always kinda defined by Finn. But for her to stand up to him and end it like she did showed growth.
In this scene, Finn is in the auditorium, by the piano, with some music sheets laid out in front of him. He looks to his left when Rachel walks in and he gets up. "This is where you proposed to me." She reminds him. "When you did, you reminded me it's where we had our first date. It's also where we first met. Do you remember that?" Finn replies, "yeah. Glee rehearsal, you, uh.... really freaked me out." Rachel walks to the center of the stage and says, "this place is kind of like our Jerusalem. All roads seem to just lead us back here." She continues, "I went to your house, and to the tyre shop. I should've known you would've just been here, though." Finn says, "I know it sounds kind of weird, but i just felt like singing up here. It seems to have helped me figure out stuff before, so...." "Yeah," Rachel begins, "I would've just, you know, come here first....if you would've picked up your phone, or answered my text messages. Instead, I had to get on a plane, and drive around town, looking for you like an idiot." "I'm sorry," Finn says, "i just needed time to think." "You had four months!" Rachel's voice becomes louder. As she walks up to Finn, she goes, "I hated you for what you did to me at the train station." "I was just trying to help." Finn tells her. "I hated you!" Rachel says loudly. They both stare at each other when she says, "but then when I got to New York, I thought how much you love me. And how hard that must have been for you. And I thought, 'this......this is what a man looks like. This is how a man loves'." Rachel continues staring at him and shakes her head. "But you? Not telling me where you were for four months, and sneaking out before sunrise in the middle of the night without saying goodbye? That is not being a man, Finn!" Finn turns around and yells at Rachel, "I'm trying to give you your freedom!" "I don't need you to give me my freedom!" Rachel shouts at him. "I am a grown woman! I don't need you to hide from me, to keep me from doing what's right for me." "Like that Brody guy?" Finn asks. "I didn't do Brody, okay?" Rachel says to him. "And don't you think that i would have rather have been with you?" "But didn't you say that he was on Broadway, right?" Finn reminds her. "And he's got like, three percent body fat. Who am i? I barely even graduated high school, and my life has absolutely no direction." Rachel walk up to him and says, "Don't you get it? No matter how rich, or famous, or successful I become... When it comes to you, I'm...... I'm always gonna be that....moon-eyed girl who freaked you out at our first glee rehearsal." She becomes emotional as she continues, "you were the first boy who made me feel loved......and sexy, and.....visible. You are my first love. And.....I want...... more than anything.....for you to be my last." Tears stream down Rachel's face at that point. "But i can't do this anymore. At least not now." She looks at him, shakes her head as she says, "we're done." Finn was taken aback by this when he says, "wow." He shakes his head and says, "what am I gonna do with my life? I don't have my girl, I don't have a job, i don't have a place in this world." "You have you." Rachel reassures him. "And that's better than anyone else on the planet, as far as I'm concerned." After those words, with tears in her eyes, Rachel shares one last kiss with Finn, then she breathes lightly, looks at him and leaves the auditorium as Finn watches her leave. Then Coldplay's "The Scientist" begins.
This scene was heartbreaking. It’s their final official breakup and were never able to get back together because of the horrible future… this world is a dark and cruel place
I remember when a girl here in my country was saying "I think Rachel is going to break up with Finn because of that Brody-hot-dude in NY" and I didn't agree with her, and later... here it is.
she didn’t break up with him so she could specifically be with brody though, at least that’s not how i saw it. i think she realized that she doesn’t deserve to be ghosted for months and then get back together and act like everything’s normal. she broke up with him because she knows it’s best for herself.
Always so sad to watch... And they were supposed to be together in the end. Maybe they will always be somehow. Was this fastened up a bit? It sounds like it is, though I understand the reason if it is.
