This is what I love about Sue. She may seem evil, but she understood what Becky was feeling (especially considering that she had a special needs sister) and although Becky caused a big problem without wanting to, Sue put her career and job at risk before seeing becky struggle later on.
@AestheticallyDumb yes? she only cared about Becky because she reminded her of her sister (in the show) and because becky was her loyal minion. Sue was pure evil. I cant even name all the ridiculous things she did on the show.
AestheticallyDumb this is one of those moments where she is not a bitch all the time. Proof that she actually has a heart, and someone worthy of redeeming. However she destroyed glee club many times to the point where it’s borderline abuse of a minor, and at another point disbanded glee bc she simply won a bet with Will. She manipulates other to get what she wants and if she doesn’t, she uses force, so bad that she actually became president of McKinnley because she planted incriminating evidence of a criminal investigation on Figgins to demote him from the position. Her “good” does not outweigh her “bad” but does make her more endearing.
Ella M they did shoot this episode before all the school shootings though. They cannot predict the future so people shouldn’t judge them for smth they couldn’t possibly have known
I hate to tell you this, but this sums up Sue Sylvester's teaching career. Yes, she is rude, vulgar, hateful, backstabbing, vengeful, and many other colorful adjectives...but at the end of the day...she has Becki's back covered. Throughout this show I have hated what she has done to people, except for this one moment. I think she shows her true colors.
@@TheVillain01 actually in my on opinion, she isn't. She's on par with Will or worse. She verbally and sometimes physically abuse her students. Sure, she had some redeemable moments but so does Will. In the end of the day, Both are terrible teachers and would have been fired if it was real life.
@@iwasagirlineldiadoingalrig7290 how the fuck was will a bad teacher. He litteraly made bully victims have a place they actually feel happy look at quinn and Rachel quinn used to bully Rachel then became friends because they had a club teachesld by will
The fact that Sue told this lie so well, makes me think back over her other controversial arguements in the past. How many of the horrible things she did/said did she actually mean? I'm gutted that this is how her character finished. Don't get me wrong, great story and really emotionally powerful and I'm glad her and Becky's fates were intertwined but still...Sue deserved better.
I respect Sue for wanting to protect Becky, but I feel like she's not helping the situation by taking the fall. Becky obviously isn't in a good mental place and needs help if she's bringing a gun to school. She could have easily hurt or killed someone. The responsible thing to do would have been to get her help.
And sad. We all makes mistakes but they shouldn’t define us or our character. No one is perfect in this world but if you do so much good and fucked up once and all of a sudden your whole persona, reputation is damage because of is sad.
I think that doesn’t necessarily apply here. if that really was sue’s gun and her lie was real then it would make sense for her to mainly be remembered for that considering she would’ve traumatized an ENTIRE school of students and faculty members to the point of having ptsd
@@aliyahbell3975 it honestly depends on how big your fuck up is and how many people are affected by it. somebody could do a lot of good deeds but do something that completely trumps all of those good deeds. if what Sue said was true then that means she gave almost every kid in that school ptsd.
@@khaliaward1771 but on what criteria is something a big deal? Let‘s take some sensitive topic and say there‘s a doctor who has saved 10k lives but had to kill one. Every single life is equally as important. Does one kill revoke the good things he has done? Do the relief and joy vanish from the 10k and their families because of one? It‘s a difficult thing to philosophise about because there’s no right or wrong
@@TheFreakyable People already understand that doctors are not always capable of saving a person's life, due to the sheer nature of being a medical professional. A teacher bringing a loaded gun to school is in no way comparable to a medical professional's judgment of a medical situation (and yes, I am fully aware Sue did not bring or fire the gun, but in this scene that is the scenario that Sue is constructing for Principal Figgins to believe), and in that situation, the teacher traumatized an entire school community, especially when there's an atmosphere of anxiety about school shootings in the United States already. In your "example," the doctor only "killed" (I'm assuming you mean euthanize or neglect due to triaging/prioritizing patients with more serious conditions) one person. Bad analogies and trying to say "oh everything is relative" is a slippery slope to where you can just minimize anything and everything.
I still remember when I first watched this scene and Sue said that the gun was hers, right away I knew she was covering for Becky. I always thought that was obvious and that everyone should have been able to put the pieces together. Sue was a lot of things but bringing a gun to school wasn't even close to being like her personality.
@@xxx-dw7tq she did .. in a way by telling him to look out for her, “she gets scared like the rest of them” People bring guns in public for 2 reasons I’ve noticed, anger and fear. That’s what motivates most shootings.
cant tell if this was a good move on sue's part because yes she sacrificed herself for becky but if becky is in the mental state where she's bringing guns to school, is it really safe for her to actually attend the school? what if the gun had been pointed in the wrong direction and sue (or becky) had gotten hurt? compromising the safety of other students so that becky can stay doesnt seem right
hazel k It's not Becky's fault. Her dad kept a gun at the reach of someone with Down Sindrome, it is his fault entirely. She didn't know that she was doing something extremely dangerous, and you can't blame someone for something they don't know. People in America have the twisted feeling that the only way to protect your family is to arm yourself, not knowing that it only allows violence and crimes to be commited more often. Well, you can see the result of it. Her family and society thaught Becky that she needed a gun to be safe, so it was exaclty what she did. Gun policies will never be enough until governments realize that civilians are not supposed to carry around guns.
Caio Napoli no, it's IN NO WAY Becky's fault. But by burying this incident, no one knows how scared Becky is and no one can help her deal with that. If she doesn't deal with it, that fear can wind up doing SERIOUS harm to her psychologically and that can lead to a whole bundle of problems down the road. Trust me, I know. That said, reporting her likely wouldn't have helped. They would have punished her for the shooting and probably never dealt with the underlying issues. I can only hope Sue talked to Becky's parents about the incident so they could help her deal with her fear of the future. Life after high school can be a truly terrifying thought when you are neurologically different and I, at least, am high-functioning. I don't envy Becky's position at all.
Just because she has down syndrome, doesn't mean she doesn't have issues. I myself have a neurological disorder. It is in no way as severe, but it does cause me problems interacting with a neurotypical world. Becky obviously realized that bringing a gun to school was a bad decision or she would not have told Sue. She wants help dealing with the fear of entering a world she knows nothing about (i.e.: post-school). I'm merely saying that Sue should make sure she gets it. Sue did the best she could for Becky under the circumstances, but Becky still needs to have someone recognize and help her deal with her fears or it's very possible she could find herself in another potentially dangerous situation and there might not be someone around to help next time.
Yeah, I am too. Honestly, I was surprised she only got a month's suspension when she fessed up. Not that's not a big punishment, but I've never know a school administration to be so understanding of... well, anything, really.
I Still love this scene so much.. whatever grudges Will and Sue might have had in the past, they still know each other like the back of their hands. You can see at 4:33-4:34 that Will realizes who the real shooter is and understands Sue's reasons. No words needed. It's amazing.
Lol no A couple nice things doesn't make you nice I applaud her for what good things she has done but she isn't the nicest person in there. Will way more nicer than her and always will be.
@@SpiderMan-wi9rc So they could get back together, yes it was inhumane, but if you think about it, without Sue, Kurt and Blaine probably wouldn't of gotten back together.
When Sue clutched her chest right below her neck, I got so scared that she had been shot. And I had to rewatch it about two times to understand that the part with Becky was a flashback.
Randy3435 True I remember they only wrote and aired this episode within a week of the Sandy Hook shooting and people were so outraged they were capitalizing on it. Glee is actually very greedy lol
K G You realise TV programmes are produced and post-produced the year BEFORE they are broadcast, right? I work in film/TV, there is no way you can write, produce, rehearse, shoot and edit an episode in less than a week.
@@martymclean3763 Also, for example in 2018, there have been more than 30 school shootings. So given any week in the year you have a chance > 50% that there is a school shooting happening. How are you supposed to schedule such an episode without tipping on anyone's feet?
When Becky says it's her dads. I got pissed. I know It's a TV show and it's not real, but it got me mad. Why the fuck would you keep firearms under the same roof as someone with mental condition. I don't fault Becky at all, I fault the parents who kept a gun, especially within reach of someone with a disability.
Tom Buxton Having firearms in the house with any child is pure stupidity. Personally I am against firearms. I work with mentally and physically disabled individuals. While working with the mentally disabled, they are to not have firearms in their house. For the safety of others, but also the safety of the individual themselves. I treat them just as I treat anybody, but I am not about to put a gun in their hands and say "Here you go." Especially in a child's hands. Maybe you don't care about a child's life, but I do.
Nichole Lilith Turner yet ppl have the right to due to the 2nd amendment?I'm not saying that we should give ppl who maybe mentally unstable guns, I am just saying
She didn't do anything "for" them. Instead of letting them reunite organically, she forced them to be locked in an elevator until they kissed. She literally WAS the Klaine fandom: forcing two males together for predominantly female amusement. It was sick.
Whenever Becky said she was scared 2 graduate, and started crying after she accidentally pulled the trigger, put me 2 tears! She’s such a sweetheart like sue’s sister! I’m also really sad that she had 2 pass away! I ❤️ both Becky and sue’s sister sooo much! 😭
Man, I cried with this. Specially when she talked about her achievements and being remembered for that one mistake instead. Yet she didn't regret for a second protecting Becky. The woman was throwing her entire career out for her. She's the best teacher at that school.
I thought that was so true, and so painful. I love Sue so much, even though I didn't stand for her evil throughout most of the series, in this moment, she really tipped her hand
When the gun went off it scared the crap out of me. I know it's a show but this really happens now days. My son school had a lock down today due to a treat. And knowing I couldn't do anything was scary something has to change
Yup! I’m not anti gun but I think people should be extremely smart when handling and there should be better laws regarding who can have one. It’s complicated and I don’t have an answer but I don’t think taking away people’s ability to defend themselves is the right way to do it. But we should definitely be smarter and stop drinking when using guns. I’ve heard of really sad news stories of people being idiots and messing around with their weapons while heavily under the influence and ended up either seriously injured or straight up died.
i just noticed how they zoom out at the "win at all cost" poster right when suea is takin the fall. the same way they zoomed out from the "Children are our N°1 priority" poster on the pilot episode, right when Mr schue was framing Finn for MJ possesion..... food for tought
This is tragic. She did so much good and now all they'll remember her for is bringing a gun to school, for her own protection, she alleges. She sacrificed years of excellence in teaching to save one child's future. What a lady.
I'll miss Sue so much!! She had great one-liners and was always secretly caring. But this was a really good finale for her character and a really well written episode overall :)
You could tell she meant a lot more than it sounded like with that last line, she said it so casually but from how she paused beforehand you could tell what she meant, it was her way of saying "we really were friends will"
I have special needs so understand how scary change is she WAS scared and wanted to be prepared its because of the school shootings she didn't feel safe anymore
I think it was a great way for her character to go. Not that I ever wanted/want her to have. Dramatic topical storyline that hopefully will help at least one scared/angry person out there if not more. Very Sue...strong.
The accidental shooter scene made me freak out when I was recently rewatching only a few weeks ago because when I first watched it I realized it was bad but had not been in that situation.... then I watched it again..
I live in the Netherlands and there is a big terrorism scare over Europe. I was watching this episode not knowing what was going to happen and my heart stopped. This was exactly what few of the 140 people must have felt the night of 13th nov in Paris. Not knowing when it will end and if you will make it out alive. #Parisisaboutlife #prayforparis
I've only seen the show Maybe two episodes random order and I thought the female Coach Sue I thought she was a horrible evil person I had no idea about this episode and it really gets to me because I have a disability as well Asperger syndrome it's a learning and social disability and it's always held me back a lot while making friends even when trying to study at school I always kept thinking that it was even going to hold me back from finding a career and surviving out in the world just like how Becky felt but I never resort to taking a gun but what she did for her it definitely shows me that so there may be people out there in the world that seem as hard as Stone but somewhere in them they have heart and it really does give me hope for the world today
2:09-2:50 It's so sad how real and entirely accurate that is; an entire resume of great accomplishments yet the world will wash it all out for one bad thing on your ledger.
As easy as it would to scold Becky, her reasoning is understandable. She was scared no one would protect her, that with her Down syndrome, she already was going to have a difficult life. I guess what pissed me off about her is that she was bitch throughout the show, and now she does something stupid, its easy to blame her, when truthfully, she was pushed to the limit. That's simply my opinion though.
I think this scene really shows you who the real Sue Sylvester is. Yes she does some really sketchy things at times, but she was willing to throw everything she accomplished in her career away to save Becky.
I LOVED Sue in the later series. Whether it was meant to be as a byproduct of her interactions with Glee, or just Sue's natural character arc, she went from a predatory wolf to a protective lioness. I mean sure she was still a hard-ass, and went hilariously overboard on several occasions, but when it genuinely mattered she always came through, and helped and protected the students without even asking for recognition. I think her real character is a very underappreciated aspect of the show, and deserves a lot more recognition than it gets.
Everyone here talking about how Sue did a very honorable thing covering for Becky, but I see no one even mentioning Will and his whole "I'm not buying it" bit. Will knew Sue was far from a goody two-shoes, but her bringing a gun was where he drew the line. Even though the evidence tends to show otherwise, deep down Will always knew that Sue was better than people give her credit for. He always believed in her even though he hates everything she's done to him. Seriously, Will and Sue's friendship is something else
As much as it sucks that Sue didn't directly implicate Becky, Sue did tell Will, side-of-the-mouth, that Becky was responsible, which led to Roz putting pressure on Becky until Becky decided to confess. I think Sue wanted Becky to stand up and take responsibility herself, rather than being ratted out.
Lauren Potter is a great actress, I guess it's really hard playing a bitchy character who hides her immense fear of facing the outside world alone, she nailed that role. This sequence is powerful too
The thing she said reminded me of a line from Julius Caesar. “The evil we do lives after us, the good oft interred with our bones.” It’s true. Do people remember the Columbine shooters for winning a spelling bee in 2nd grade? No. They remember them for the terrible act they did.
Glee never really had tea but I saw glee shooting scene so I was like Yesss finally some real good tea then I saw this and I was like r u KIDDING ME!!!!!!
Literally I remember watching this back then I realised that becky shouldn’t be carrying a firearm in school that’s dangerous you could have hurt yourself or sue and you caused the whole school in panic
She was a bully, but she understood that there are things that are unacceptable. For example, when Karofsky threathened Kurt, or Karofsky attempted suicide. Sue is such an amazing character.
You know I never really felt like Sue was a bad person or evil she just was overly competitive and loved the thrill of a rival a little too much. But when it came to really standing up for what was right, such as when she defended Kurt from Karofsky and standing up for Becky and protecting her, she revealed her heart and those made for great show moments.
