On Sunday June 24, 2001 Glen Campbell granted permission to Rotary to video his performance for the 23,000 + delegates to the 2001 Convention at its Opening Ceremony in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. Glen is introduced by Rotarian Rick Cavender - also a recording country western artist who was chosen to open for Campbell since he is a San Antonio resident and car dealer.

He was perhaps the best player to ever strap on a guitar, and to understand it so very well. There are many great guitarists and singers of course, but his session-musician history, the fact that he was self taught - producing a dazzlingly beautiful and soulful technique, and his successful career in total, must rank him as the very best of all. Will we ever see his like again? No, we won't. But thank heavens we did...

Glen had that rare magic about him that keeps him timeless long after his passing. Such a special talent. Saw his farewell show at San Antonio's Majestic Theater. It was an incredible night of joy and sentiment for me. You could feel the adoration emanating from the audience. An atmosphere unlike any other. R.I.P. to America's treasure Glen Campbell.

I live in San Antonio and did not know that his final show was at the Majestic. But I was on the host committee and the convention committee of Rotary’s that without a doubt wanted him to come to entertain our 24,000 attendees at its annual convention here in San Antonio in 2001.

I think in the last part of his life Glen Campbell was playing guitar and singing more and more really just from his soul;there just seemed to be more and more expressiveness which is incredible because he was always so musically and emotionally expressive and flawless in that way from the beginning. His singing became more and more transparent as a tremendous final grace from God as he drew closer to the end of days on earth.

His guitar solo on Galveston is absolutely beautiful, and his golden voice, wow, absolutely beautiful! Glen has great ears, and he is so very handsome, I wish I had seen him in person, but thankful for these videos of him as his guitar work can be observed so much better. 🌹. Love his Gospel album, the songs are fantastic. He just shines! He is in Paradise. We love you Glen.

The only comfort is being able to listen to him every day, or I have been in love with Glenn Campbell since I was 9 or 10 years old, when he sang in a group, I had never seen his face, I only got to know him years later when my brother bought an LP. imported, and I confess that I didn't think he was handsome, I didn't like blondes. For 30 years now, I have fallen completely in love with him for his music, and as long as I breathe I will listen to him, love him and pray that he is very happy wherever he is ❤

What a gifted artist was Glen Campbell. Not only could he sing with such feeling, he truly was a brilliant guitarist, something for which he is often over looked. His family and particularly his performing children, should and are justifiably proud of their Dad and carry his legacy forward for future generations to enjoy and be inspired by and educated by.

He was arguably (opinions always vary) the greatest guitarist ever. He was also a great singer/ performer, good looking, cool and modest to boot ! Amazingly, he was sixty five years old there, fit as a fiddle and looking terrific !
