**AFTER SUNDAY 16TH MAY 2010, I WILL NOT BE SENDING THE MP3 OF THIS TO ANYONE, I'M JUST GETTING LAZY. SO GET YOUR NAME IN NOW!** This session was recorded for Today Fm, as part of Tom Dunne's Pet Sounds.
Several years ago when I first heard this song on a Chieftains album, I was searching my mind for where I heard this before...having not previously heard a recording. I finally deferred to my Mother and asked if Daddy had ever sung "Raglan Road." At 80+ years old, my Mother replied "your Father stood in the kitchen doorway and sang this after your sister's wedding (1971). Each time I listen to this song, it gives me chills, smiles and fond memories of my Dad even to this day.
Love this version too I'm a Dublin musician I've lived in jamaica for a couple of years and I recently put up a version of this song on RU-vid it's Mr Celtic Reggae raglan road youtube hope you subscribe and share if you like it🍀☘🍀
The best version EVER of this beautiful song was recorded by Glen for the Liss Ard festival cd. I was fortunate to come across a copy by accident years back, it takes the song to a historic level. He takes the passion of Luke Kelly and weaves some stunning sweetness to the timeless lyric. I should upload it someday. It reminds me of home, stuck here in Boston. Oh the grand canal, Smiths on Haddington road after a few.
It was the Original London Cast, and they had a session where they recorded just a few songs including Raglan Road, but I can't find it online besides on Spotify.

Keilys in donnybrook on a weekend of Rugby, or O'Neils at the bottom of Grafton, I miss it almost every day, Henry St. on a Saturday, getting a coffee at o'Briens.......the list is endless.................................
After receiving a few emails about this I think I'll take out that Liss Ard version and upload it. Applause to rtenewsontwo for uploading this, I'm coming home, haha!
Ronnie Drew made that change at least one of the times he sang it. Should he be vilified too? Anyway, Glen clearly says "passed," as Kai Woods pointed out.
Listen to Mick O Brien the Dublin uillean piper and teacher in Artane school..play Raglan Road (The Dawning of The Day) on his cd The Ancient Voice of Ireland. I would put on par with The Legend
@rtenewsontwo hahahahha...I must have been out of it! actually don't even remember hearing this song before! I must have been baking brownies or something when I posted!
This is the only one I've heard that I think comes close to Luke's version, this one and Ronnie's version. But I think we all know that no version will ever touch Luke's.
@rtenewsontwo personally, this song sounds more like the spoken version by Patrick Kavanagh. I dislike the pauses Luke Kelly adds to the song. And Glen's voice is gorgeous, and very heart rending.
