He performed this song in Buffalo NY around this same time, in a room of 5,000 people. When he got the the final verse, he stepped out in front of the microphone and just sang directly to the audience, screaming his heart out. Not a single person in that room had trouble hearing him. Absolutely amazing performer.
Absolutely, positively my favorite version of this song. It’s way beyond great, to me it’s a magical performance, including his impromptu tuning, due to his hurricane-like delivery, both as a player and as a vocalist. Phenomenal.
So I just recently became a fan of Glen's music. What I love about it is that he has a way of singing like he's the only one in the room. And it really makes his songs seem that much purer.
So I just saw the movie Once today and I was blown away. How can someone put so much emotion man.. how he sings that chorus is out of this world. Listened to it 10x in a row and I got chills every time. This man is special.
I spent, what feels like my entire life waiting for a song like this to reach my ears. I almost feel undeserving of it. Speaks realms of the turning points of a life I really never felt I’ve lived. I know I was there but oh to do it all slightly differently. Bless you Glen.
So great. He puts so much emotion into his music; definitely something to be truly admired by people everywhere. You don't get this kind of enriching, heart-driven music that much anymore, so you've got to make do with what you've got. Long live great musicians like Glen Hansard.

To settle the guitar scenario, "the horse" was not his guitar. When he began busking at 13( or 15, not 100% sure), he played an old, crappy inexpensive Yamaha. That went on for a few years, and while I'm not sure when he got the takamine, I do know it was not his first guitar. I know because he's my favorite performer and my main influence. Now go enjoy the rest of his stuff!
