Excellent review. Enjoyed the appraisals and I really wanted to be able to interject 😁! This is good honest whisky and should give up it’s best with patience, it’ll also show its quality up against similarly priced expressions, especially in its texture and delicate flavours. This is the style of naturally presented whisky we demand as enthusiasts and I think Angus Dundee should be applauded for committing to this despite the added costs. What does a regular 10yo cost? This has 15% more whisky in the bottle. Great summaries. 👍

The anorak's always complain that distilleries short change everyone on the presentation. This seems to be a whisky that is true to the craft presentation, like Deanston and Bunnahabhain. I haven't had a chance to try it, but I think we do need to support the distillers that do sell the craft style. You are getting more for you money when they bottle at a higher ABV. Quality over quality on a limited budget IMHO. I will look for it, but haven't seen it for sale in Northern VA.

It's US pricing again. Whilst they are pushing Macallan, Dalmore & sorts overseas, Glencadam is 60 US while we get a bottle for a more reasonable € 31-35.

I love this Whisky, and just recently found a place that sells it for $45 instead of $58 which is also what Deanston 12 costs and I think this is right up there with the Deanston and as the Glencadam 13 is $78 I'm sticking with the 10. Cheers

Shalom Guys. Glencadam has a capaciity of some 1.3 million litres / year. (Source: Malt Whisky Yearbook 2018). The distillery manager, Douglas Fitchett, prides himself on the fact that Glencadam has never been peated as the distillery was built in 1826 to take advantage of the railway system which brought coal to the region. Consequently, he says that Glencadam will never ever produce a peated version. What I love about the young 10 YO Glecadam is that you can taste the raw ingredients. The barley malt grain like fresh bread dough, butter, the yeast and the beer wort. You get so close to the whisky's raw ingredients, it's like a very intimate whisky experience. I don't think it's only the higher bottling strength of 46 abv, I think the non-chill filtering has a lot to do with it too, preserving that wholesome mouth feel. The 10/13/15/18/21 Year olds are all exclusively American Ex-Bourbon casks and Ex-Bourbon hogsheads. The 15 YO and 21 YO have been discontinued now, due to lack of stock. They are unfortunatley a victim of their own success. All the above expressions are Kosher Certified from the OU (Orthodox Union). They have also brought out a 25 YO, 30 YO, 32 YO and 33 YO around which are well beyond my price limit). In addition, Glencadam also do some special sherry cask expressions in the 14 YO and 19 YO Oloroso. There is also a 17 YO Port cask around. The new 13 YO Limited Edition is no where near as good as the 15 YO. The 18 YO in my opinion is better than the old 21 YO but very very expensive. I'd say, excessive. If you happen to see a 15 YO sitting on the shelf, GRAB IT immediately. You won't regret it. As for the 10 YO. I find it varies from batch to batch from OK to simply amazing. See my review of the Glencadam distillery and tasting notes for their expressions here: rebmordechaireviews.blogspot.com/2017/12/a-tour-of-glencadam-distillery-and.html

First, THANK YOU! Awesome information and we absolutely love it. Sharing info like this is a major reason we started this journey on RU-vid. Very interesting and to be honest I've never heard of a scotch being Kosher Certified, but sure why not! I'm going to keep some of this info in the back of my mind as I search through the "off-the-beaten path) for the proverbial "old dusty"..... Really hope to find that 15yo or maybe one of those older ones for a steal!!! BTW, pretty funny claim by the distillery manager..... don't "ever" say "never'! LOL. Thanks again. ~Mark

Hmm. One store chain by me found or just got some dusty 2016 bottlings of the Glencadam 10 year. They are going for $53 before taxes. I appreciate the honest and thorough review. I think I may pick it up now.

A solid and tasty dram. The presentation with this is everything - 46%, non chill filtered and natural colour. Can’t go wrong. Cheers, boys.

Nice review guys. Glencadam is quality stuff. The 21 is also very good. $60 is a bit high though for the 10. It's $45 here in California. Cheers!

Been telling you lads to get this for ages! Love this stuff! Only 13 miles from me, its my local distillery and I need to visit them sometime this year even though the place doesn't look the most picturesque distillery, and more industrial. However you can't fault the quality they produce and thats the main thing! French bread, salted butter and lemon; and it works beautifully. Have this, the 15, and just bought the other day an independent 6yo one that I've sampled thats even more lemony sweet too. Will open the latter two alongside my open 10 and compare in the spring. That will be a good night :)

Hi Saltire. I've visited teh distillery twice already. Call first and arrange a tour. I'd go out on a limb and tell you it will problably be the best distillery tour you have ever been on. Everything there is done the old fashioned way. Not a blinking light in sight. Lauter? Semi Lauter? Phew! Everything is done with paddles and brute force. The wort is agressive and angry and spurts out above wooden washback lids.A wonder to see. They add soap to keep it calm. The stills are steam heated and levels checked with a mirror as the wash still window was put in on the wrong side, against the wall! The Lynn arm goes up producing more reflux and a fruitier white wine type new make spirit. What I love about young Glecadams is that you can taste the raw ingredients. The barley malt grain like fresh bread dough, butter, the yeast and the beer wort. You get so close to the whisky's raw ingredients, it's like a very intimate whisky experience. Please take the time to visit the beautiful park next door. Loads of picnic tables for lunch. I was particularly moved by the impressive war memorial there, listing all the members of the arm forces from the town of Brechin who had given up their lives for our freedom.

Great review, boys! I really enjoyed this bottle a lot... I'm too busy acquiring other Glencadam expressions to replace this excellent bottle, although I will do it eventually. I think it's one of the best ten year olds out there! PS. You guys are right... It's perfect neat!

I am heading out at lunch to see if I can get a Glencadam 15 or Caol Ila Distillers Edition. Good and timely review. Thanks! I hope you keep drinking this Thursday on the live show. I couldn't find any Glencadam in Chicago but I did find the 2011 Caol Ila Distillers Edition.

Great review guys. I have seen this at my local liquor store as well and had never heard of it. About 60 bucks as well. They seem to have a good range of bottles but this one I would like to try to see if its worth the price point for me. Thanks for the honesty as always fellas!

Nice review! I def agree with Roy below. I'm a big fan of Glencadam - I pull the 15 off the shelf when I want just a classic bourbon barrel scotch, presented with integrity. I've also got a 19 year old Oloroso finish that is fantastic as well. Cheers.

Thanks for a great review guys. One of the brands that I’m not familiar with because of UNavailability. I think not all the distilleries are willing to do 75cl and at least 43%ABV bottlings for South Africa 😞. Anyway, cheers 🥃!!

This is a brilliant whiskey, finished the whole bottle and bought the 15 yo which is great also. I think the quality of the spirit is just brilliant and the cask is really good . Take time with that bottle , so elegant ...... and delicious.

And now one of Aqvavitae's Hero Whiskies, you can get it over here for £31. Glencadam is in Brechin and owned by the Hillman Family who run Angus Dundee, who are fiercely independent and not part of the SWA. Great young Master Blender in Iain Forteath. Shouldn't the mark be 2.375?

Have not had this particular Glencadam but all their scotches are atleast 46% abv, non-chill filtered and natural color : a craft presentation. Price of about $40. One of you mentioned the 12 year old Portwood finish. The 12 year old Portwood finish is a very good scotch which reminds me of the Tullibardine 228 burgundy finish only better. I purchased the 12 year old in Nov. 2016 for about $52. This scotch has been discontinued for around 3 years or so and mine was bottled in Nov. 2012. If you see the 12 year old Portwood finish, buy it, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I've seen this in my local store but have ignored it mainly because of the price point. Quite a few nice Scotches in that $60 - $70 range. My current favorite is Spice Tree by Compass Box. Cheers, guys.

It has nothing to do with this video, but if you had a choice to buy the directors cut black label blade runner 2049 Johnny walker or Johnny walker platinum which would you guys choose?
@Scotch4Dummies
@Scotch4Dummies 6 лет назад
My personal opinion, I'd nab the Blade Runner 2049....price subjective that is. I say that because I'd be curious to try Black at the higher ABV and because I have Platinum and believe it is readily available... ~Mark

Scotch 4 Dummies the blade runner is $99 and I will pick it up today, depending on where you live maybe I can be on the channel or can send it to you guys to try and review and when you send it back I will have a center piece in my collection to say scotch for dummies tried my personal bottle lol. Thank you Mark for the response I will buy it today.

I tried this bottle a year ago... I loved it instantly! I also have their Entry Level "Origin," a sherry cask 14, and the 15! I had to hunt around a bit to get the 15, but now I know two stores that have some... The bottle of ten lasted a year of savoring and enjoying. It was a treat! I will be trying the other three bottles as the year unwinds... I have so many whiskies, I have trouble choosing which one to try next, so I more or less attack them on a first in- first out basis... That's what happens when you acquire more than you drink.
