I was taught 8 years, age 5 through 11 at an elementary school in Louisiana,USA, taught by Irish NUNS. The most amazing educated and spiritually wise women I ever knew. I thought the whole world would be so educated, speak English in this perfect manner, and I have weathered the storms and temptations of Satan and his minions and have survived until today, my 77TH birthday, and love GOD EVER MORE. I only sometimes wish I’d stayed in the monastery later in life, but three years was a great gift in my life.

I hope they can keep it going. They need some really sturdy nuns to get all that work done in four hours a day. The young girls nowadays don't seem to be interested in this way of life.

Very nice. I don,t think Christ asked for a birth certificate when he invited the apostles to join him. Gods call is between His chosen and Himslef and NO ONE ELSE!. no more need be said!

Monastic life is for depressed people who have given up!

How wonderful that they take older candidates! I saw several older ladies with the white novice veil on. I applaud these Trappists for not restricting this beautiful ministry of prayer to younger women.

It's sad many men's religious communities heavily rely on age. So many able-bodied men get rejected because they're above 35 or even 40. I don't think Jesus asked for proof of age when he gathered his followers. If he had, he probably would have been alone.

The peace and solitude of cloistered life certainly has an appeal. Remaining in one place and not being able to attend occasions outside the convent would be tough though.

Re what the vocations director said....i don't see that Traditional Catholicism IS in demise. What I see in North America is a growing and vibrant interest in traditional Catholic pratice esp among younger women and men. People want to go to Latin mass. They are interested in learning what the 60's generation of Catholic leadership sought to leave behind. The majority of people at masses were born after Vatican II.
