Glenn Greenwald is a Pulitzer winning journalist. He was instrumental in debunking the WMD narrative that led us into decades of war. He has more journalistic integrity (and talent) in his little finger than Briahna and Robby put together.

That is why regular people get prison time, but ray Epps, who was caught on video actually asking people to go into the capital building didn't get time. The most egregious person get no prison time, while we put a person who was peacefully escorted by the police to tour the capital building had to do time.

Security forces aiding an insurrection is one of the facts that elevate the event to a coup attempt rather than to prove it was not. The important point is the intent. Were they simply protesting or were they trying to stop the legal transfer of power in congress on Jan. 6th or not? You know the answer.

Absolutely HILARIOUS that Bri opens up with "I think Glen is playing fast and loose with the definition of a coup" and then goes on to completely ignore Jan 6 hyperbole and define a new idea she calls a "soft coup," which is totally different than Al Gore wanting a recount of ballets. When Briahna does not like the truth she lies. The debate was 100% about J6th being an insurrection. Everyone's opening statements were about an insurrection. I watched Destiny try to garner information towards an insurrection, when he could not find what he needed, he moved the goalposts (which he is excellent at doing) to a coup. Briahna and Robbie left out the most important part of Glenn's point. Should Pence have invalidated the two sets of electors, before it even would go to a House vote, there would be legal action to stop it and it would need to go to the Supreme Court to decide. If this was Trump's intent, it would be the exact outcome of the 2000 election. Shut up, go home, and get a clue.

And don't forget we had 4 years of the left saying trump wasn't the real president and Hillary Clinton told biden not to concede. I think with the term "election denier" making its way into popular discussion, everyone just took it at face value that denying election results was some kind of affront to democracy itself. Are we forgetting that, in the US, you are perfectly within your rights to deny election results. Whether you are correct or not, it is well within your right to question the process. In fact, it should be questioned constantly. That's how we maintain efficiency and accuracy in the process. Conversely, making the claim that the process is sacred, and should never be questioned, is something more along the lines of what you'd here in a dictatorship.
@WilkinsMichael
@WilkinsMichael 5 месяцев назад
No one is saying election results should not be questioned. What people are saying is that when you question them and if you want them overturned you must present EVIDENCE. That evidence will then be evaluated carefully in court. When push comes to shove there wasn't any evidence of massive vote fraud as claimed, they lost in court over 60 times and the legal transfer of power occurred. There still hasn't been any proof of massive voter fraud. At that point it may be your right to keep whining but it is like the little boy who called wolf, people get a little tired of the idiocy. You can cry all you want but it isn't a dictatorship for people to think you are an idiot. It makes it even worse when there is actual proof that the very people who are crying were trying to illegally overturn the election. Is this really so hard to understand?
@kendrom
@kendrom 5 месяцев назад
@@WilkinsMichael I completely agree, but it’s that Trumps denial has been equated to an insurrection. Eg; Because Trump denied the results of the election, he is an “election denier”, and somehow guilty of insurrection. That is the issue. I mean, the guy clearly stated on video that people should go to the capital building, and peacefully protest. Those are his words. How they are tying that to an “insurrection” is beyond me…and it’s likely why he hasn’t been charged with it. I’d wager they can’t pin it on him.

The only legitimate and legal way to question the vote was at the Capitol that day in Congress. It was set up for THAT DAY, JAN. 6, with about 15 (approximately 15). All the previous court cases were thrown out because of the wrong forum. The correct forum was in Congress that day. We settled in at home and looked forward to those arguments. But they were cut short soon after the first speaker of this legitimate process. We also saw on TV days before Jan 6, Pelosi standing before the Nation Guard and telling them that they must ONLY follow her command of her, Pelosi, and no one else's. We thought that was really weird. Then we saw the police open the gates and doors and wave the Trump fans in, They walked in slowly and orderly like tourists. It was safe to proceed with the legal process of the Congress people with their arguments. a few hours after the so-called "insurrection." It has been said that Congress was safe to resume, a few hours, but it refused. It was certainly safe to resume those arguments,which are due to the people, But even if the Congress were so PTSD'd - the next day or even a few days later, it would have been fine to resume the arguments- which are still due to the American people. There was a coupe, but it was by the Democrats. Having those congresspeople lined up for their arguments was a legal procedure, and that is denied to the people to this day. There were many proven ways to show the final counts of the vote were wrong.. Dems had this all set up with mail in ballots at the last minute. That is a decision that would normally takes years and years. Also huge rise in votes in the middle of the night and filmed vote dumping -ballots stuffed in bags and dumped into mailboxes. Piles of votes found in ravines More votes counted than voters in a district, I lived in Philadelphia for 13 years and became the target of severe retaliation by the Philly government when I exposed and collected evidence of their corruption regarding a contaminated site they illegally dug up for construction next to my house and the lead and mercury that was dug up made for extremely ill for years. They committed so many crimes against me because I collected evidence and kept trying to get them to do the right thing, but instead, they nearly killed me. I lost my home, career, health, family, everything. When I heard Philly saying they were honest in their election, I laughed. I used to read Philly's score on Election Fraud and they have been getting F decades. Philly did not suddenly become honest. I was living in CA when the Dem primaries and election of 2016 happened, yet I found my name, registered as a Dem, still on the Philly rooster even though I had moved away in 2013 to save my life. But I was a lifelong Dem. When I moved back to CA, I registered as an Independent because I was going to take my time to see how the politics were in CA. But then Bernie was going to be in the CA primary election, and I wanted to vote for him, so I went down and re-registered as an Independent. I was still a Dem and never even saw a speech by Trump. But when the primary came and they sent me a "Provisional Ballot." I didn't know what that was and went down to the voting office and asked for a regular ballot. I had to argue with them,. but glad I did because later they found massive amounts of red provisional ballots in warehouses and never counted them. So I voted for Bernie. Then they had the DNC convention in Philly and I watched them kick the Bernie voters out of the hall after the morning vote had Bernie win. I saw posters of Bernie drawn over with devil horns, and the city refused to allow people to stand on the Free Speech spot that has been in one of the parks since the days of the Revolution and refuse then their free speech. The city also tried to clamp down on free speech elsewhere in the city. That was the end of me voting for a Dem that year, 2016. I just was not going to vote at all. Still did not look at Trump. But, about 2 days before the Clinton/Trump election in November, I had a dream that shook me to the core. In the dream, I saw a map of Russia and the Eastern block countries. Western forces and rockets and weapons were aimed at Russia. I woke in sheer terror, knowing that Clinton was planning a war. I had a war premonition dream also on August 11, a month before 9/11. I was not going to vote for war, so I got up on election day, nov. 2016, and voted against Clinton. My stomach did not relax until the next morning when I woke up and found that Trump had won. Now Biden has the war that who ever wanted war gets what they want , sooner or later. If anyone thinks whoever is behind Biden and behind get rid of Trump and behind whoever is behind demonizing Trump supporters are not the same warmongers, and if you think they are not totally capable of stealing the vote, you are not thinking clearly. Whether "soft", "hard", "military" or otherwise, a coup requires control, usurpation and at least the threat of the use of deadly force as its primary means of enforcement and support. Anything less, is not a "coup". A coup is a takeover, not a pleading for others to make alternative decisions based upon facts or potential facts, being currently avoided or dismissed. That is commonly called an argument or debate. Even so, in order to change the outcome of the election, all engaged parties with decision-making authority would have to agree and convince their staff to implement. It is actually a variable-filled undertaking that also ultimately requires settlement according to federal, State and local laws. That is not a coup.

@@arthurianlegend352 A coup doesn't have to be violent although they often are. We have lots of words in English for it. A soft coup, a silent coup, a non-violent coup and even a self-coup. And there was the use of force involved. And protesters claim they were aided by police, help by inside security forces is a key point elevating an insurgency to a coup. The key point of a coup is illegally seizing power. That was clearly the intent. Also it was a coup ATTEMPT. The competency of a coup attempt doesn't matter, the intent and the action are the key points. They intended to stop the lawful legal transfer of power taking place in the Capitol building on January 6th, the day and location was not a coincidence. The protesters chanted "Hang Mike Pence" this is because they wanted him to stop the transfer of power, when he refused they took physical action to stop it. This was not the end of the plan. They wanted Mike Pence to count fraudulent electors they had organized or disrupt the process so they could have state legislatures run by Republicans in states that voted for Biden to throw out the legal electors and substitute the fraudulent electors tipping the electoral college to Trump. This isn't exactly secret any more. Sounds like an attempted political coup to me. What would you call it? It clearly wasn't merely a protest or a riot.

With the mail-in ballots and voting machines and more problems, the 2020 election was most irregular, you must concede. Why the rush? Sorry Bri, but you're trying to punish people for daring to disagree with you. It's legal to challenge an election result in court (and Democrats/liberals have done so themselves in the past). If you lose the case, walk out of the courtroom, and pick up a gun and try to overthrow the government, THEN you're beyond the law. It's also legal for Congress to refuse to certify election results (and individual Democrat congressman have refused to do this many times). The constitution literally has processes to handle this. Even if such a process is used exceedingly rarely, you can't claim it's outside the law when it's literally written in the constitution. Ultimately, it all would have ended up with SCOTUS - and this is appropriate. If - and only if - Trump had refused to accept what SCOTUS ruled would he then have been outside the law. But this scenario simply never eventuated. Glenn is right on this. And Bri's arguments are both incorrect, and disappointing.

A coup d'etat is when a group of conspirators unconstitutionally removes and replaces the leading figures of government. This isn't debatable; it's pretty much the dictionary definition. While it can conceivably be done without the active participation of the military, it will always require the complicity of those law enforcement and military figures who are in a position both to intervene and prevent intervention from law enforcement and military. Since they're highly unlikely to allow a coup, unless they firmly believe it's necessary or to their benefit, these figures are likely to either stop the coup, or be directly involved in it. As a result, virtually all successful coups are military coups, at least in part. Demonstrators with sufficient support among law enforcement and military that these will remain passive or be unwilling to escalate to the necessary level, can trigger a soft coup, by pressing leading figures to resign, to be replaced by conspirators in the coup. This is how most "color revolutions" have happened, such as the one in Ukraine, where Banderist sympathies were prevalent in the military, and Yanukovich was unwilling both to order such intervention and also to call in his own popular supporters. HOWEVER, this requires significant planning and preparation, to ensure that the replacement figures are in position to take over. In Ukraine, this part of the conspiracy was handled by the US embassy. There are no indications that Trump had made any such preparations, or even that he has the mental capacity and organizational skill to give it a decent try; if he had tried, we'd be drowning in irrefutable proof of it. There was no coup attempt, neither of the hard or soft sort. At most, it was an exceptionally incompetent attempt at election fraud, but I don't think it even rises to that standard. His narcissistic personality disorder simply made it psychologically impossible for him to believe that he lost. It seems like sheer stupidity, but, deep down, even intelligent, high functioning narcissists will believe that they're the rightful winners, and were cheated out of victory, even as they look at how the coin they provided landed, were the ones who flipped it, and force themselves to pretend that they know that they lost. They should know, but they honestly don't; it simply doesn't compute for them. Trump isn't a high functioning narcissist; he lacks the discipline and socialization to pretend that he knows that he lost. That lack of discipline and socialization is pretty much the only thing that sets him apart from other prominent politicians, though. They're no better or more intelligent, just better socialized.

US citizens should always have an avenue to challenge and audit election results. What Pence was asked to do was send the results back to the state to resolve the correct vote count. It was not about changing results, per se, but double-checking the processes. Pence's refused to do that. However, had he done that it would have not changed the results for certain. It would have put the burden on the state legislators.

Good point. I'm going to recycle that. It does follow the same line of logic. They can't even argue that a incorrectly appointed administration would cause the loss of fewer lives than the same number of misfiled firearms as fraudulent voters considering that we have some 420 million firearms in private citizens hands a couple million more would not even be a blip. That would be less than the uptick that happens anytime they start talking gun control in DC. A few million votes however, could swing almost any election.

@kevinstfort oh, how I wish RU-vid would let me post links. A primary was recently overturned so to ballot stuffing caught on tape. During a live CNN news segment in Ohio, a woman can be seen stuffing ballots. There are plenty of examples, but you can just use common sense. After the uniparty list control in 2016, they had a 2018 dry run on Arizona and California where they pushed mass mail in voting. Electing might, Republicans were ahead in the Arizona senate and many historically red house seats. Despite being only 40% of the votes, the trickle of mail in "ballots" overturned every single one of those elections. Combine that with Trump winning virtually every bellwether while lodging the election, you don't need to be a statistician to realize the virtual impossibility of all these things to harken without fraud.

The procedures for counting the electoral votes are validated by historical precedents. Any objections to the reported totals must be made by the duly appointed officials from each state. There were discrepancies and objections being read into the official record, which would've necessitated the reexamination of the reported totals and the subsequent appointment of contingent electors. There are always copies of the reported totals kept at the state houses, which are to be used to reconcile any objections raised to the totals during the certification process. Upon completion of the session, it would've been the VP/president pro tempore of the Senate's duty to make certain that the disputed results were returned to the affected states for reconciliation. Before those procedures could be followed, the "insurrection" happened. The sudden disruption of the proceedings was followed by nonstop propagandizing, 24/7 about how crazed Trump supporters tried to seize control of the federal government. And, of course, to deny the "proven" winner, Joe Biden, his victory. It's telling how the main talking point of the Biden supporters is that the establishment Republicans, "Trump's own team," were adamantly defending Joe Biden as the winner. The entrenched Swamp creatures who misrepresent themselves as Republicans were never on Trump's team. The 147 Republicans who voted to overturn the election and acknowledged that a massive fraud had occurred were pictured and vilified on the cover of the recently soon to be defunct New York Times as traitors to America. Of course, the selective memories of the Leftist Progressives don't let facts interfere with their established narratives.
