I was 13 yrs old when I saw Deep Purple ,also my very 1st concert ever ,opening act was Nazareth ,Stone City Attractions ,Abilene Texas, what a memory this brings back, I'm 64 yrs old now ,watching these videos makes it like it happen yesterday,,,

Could listen to Jon Lord speak for hours. Hughes is correct in saying that rock n roll is not meant to be polite, it's meant to be dangerous. Bands need to understand that today.

Dammit, after "Who do we think we are" DP was finished. But No! Coverdale/Hughes reignited the flame and the band Burned (literally).

David must have some guts to face that many people, when you consider he'd only played workingmen's clubs with The Fabulosa Brothers and The Government in the early '70's. The camera was pre arranged: if you notice the cameraman wasn't shocked, he even walked forward a few steps which gave it away, and Ritchie's body language as he threw the guitar on the floor showed resignation, he knew the guy had given it away. Had it been unscripted the guy would have jumped back and used WTF body language, but he was perfectly in control. A nice idea, but pre arranged. Incidentally, Tommy Bolin was watching the concert on TV and later laughed about Ritchie "almost burning his britches" when the amps exploded and the flames gushes across the stage. Ritchie then goes to retrieve his guitar when a second explosion goes off, which he wasn't expecting.

Finally downloaded the remastered bootleg of this legendary show. Ritchies guitar is right up the mix on the remaster plus..theres the bonus San Diego bootleg show they did three days later..another awesome boot.

Deep Purple mk 3 & 4, main cause of their demise was, everybody wanted to be the front man. .Coverdale WAS the lead singer. .Hughes and Bolin refused to just sing back up.

Most people stopped talking about Ritchie Blackmore about 27 years ago, Deep Purple on the other hand have released 7 epic albums since then, the last 3 have all sold incredibly well, this current (2002 - 2020) line up of DP is actually the second most successful line up of this iconic band after the "classic" M2 line up and for alot of younger fans Steve Morse is the only DP guitarist they've ever known 🙂

No Gillan, No Glover = plastic purple, just two short years later this ridiculous excuse of a line up (minus blackmore) almost killed the band for good. Thank God Gillan/Glover reformed the real line up and saved the future of the band, 10 amazing albums later (Not included slaves/masters) and Deep Purple get to cement their rock legacy forever, just like the stones 5 decades of amazing music.
