As the global population gets older, age-related diseases like dementia are becoming one of the greatest threats to human health.
Earlier this year a group of UCL neuroscientists working at the Francis Crick Institute in London made a significant finding that could turn conventional wisdom about the ageing of the human brain on its head. Glia, the cells usually associated with supporting neurons, might have a greater role to play than we previously thought.
The research was published in January in the scientific journal Cell Reports.
