Kennedy's Disease, also known as Spinal Bulbar Muscular Atrophy, is a rare form of Motor Neurone Disease that causes the progressive degeneration of both muscles and motor neurons, which are the nerves that instruct the muscles how to move.
In May 2016 the UK's first dedicated clinic for patients with Kennedy's Disease was set up at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery at UCLH.
The clinic was established to give patients the opportunity to receive specialised clinical care, as well as to take part in clinical research programmes to test therapies and new therapeutics for a disease that currently has no proven effective treatment.
