Oh this is classic! My Grandfather flew the first glider to ever fly in Hiawwii in 1929. Lt. Norme Frost. The glider looked just like these with the wheels. The second flight by Otto Hornung jr. was injured a week later when it crashed at Rodgers Airport. It was called the Dude glider. Thank you for putting this video together. Sorry, it crashed at Ward Airport.

There was true passion back then for airplane modeling. Nowadays there is only a mountain of polystyrene and depron crap!

Wow this is pretty cool. She's my grandpa's cousin, we used to have her pilots hat on display but donated to a museum in Alabama.

Ruth Elder -- "Our American Girl" -- speaks! Thanks for posting. Did you know that she almost beat Amelia Earhart in crossing the Atlantic?

something feels about this clip, it just seriously doesnt look like 1930, it look nowaday, the reporter, the guy, the boy training on the plane.. amazing

Ruth Elder was my dad's cousin. I've done some research and she was an amazing woman. The only difficult part for me is I can't seem to find any living relatives other than my dad Thomas McClellan and he is 86. And, Amelia Earhart was the first woman PASSENGER to cross the Atlantic. At no time did she pilot the aircraft. And that's history.

Hi Venny. My name is Dixie Elder. My father was William Cullen Elder. I think Ruth Elder was Dad's Aunt. He went with her to the premiere of "Gone With the Wind." He told me she was a "Hollywood Actress" & a "barnstormer." I never got to meet her, sadly. There are a Lot of adventurous, travel-loving people in our family. My father mapped Antarctica with a team of USGS surveyors in 1961/62. A mountain peak & a glacier are named after him. He mapped all over the US. My family moved 48 times before I turned 13. My cousin Jim Elder & his son Wyatt are professional surfers & divers. So is my nephew Todd Elder. I have traveled all over the world, including to Africa, Iceland, the Orkney Islands & beyond. Please feel free to connect up with me if you'd like to do so. I will look here again for your reply. I'm on facebook under Dixie Johnsonelder

OOPS Venny, I'm under Dixie Elderjohnson. Not Dixie Johnsonelder. Sorry about that & look forward to hearing from you! I've been to Scotland with my husband & found our kin in a ledger in the Sutherland castle.

Listening to how well spoken Ruth is, perfectly grammatical, expressive, it makes it clear how far we have fallen in our culture. Compare her speech to the average person interviewed in media today and you can see they paid more attention in those days to cultivating language skills.

@speedcrank you took the words outa my mouth, nothing has changed, except materials and small adjustable things. airplane technology started :1903, ended unfortunately 1941

How fantastic to build a Peel glider and fly it again.I wonder if the drawings still exist.😎

Don’t know about drawings, but there’s an extant Peel Glider Boat somewhere in NY ( Long Island or Elmira).

if anyone is interested in more info on Ruth, I have tons and glad to share. Dixie, I'm so glad to hear from you and will contact you this weekend via facebook. I'm doing a geneology study on my dads side "the McClellans and McHale's. would love to talk to you. From what I gather from my dad and pics of my grandfather McClellan with Ruth, she was my grandfather's brother's niece. so much history. we had a lot of motorcycle racers and winners in the family too.
