Amazing, sensible and accurate words. For me gliding is a neccesity. Watching from hights with a full concentration in what you are doing, as you said, makes me center my life when stepping soil, separating priorities from other stuff. Sometimes you feel too cold, too hot, unconfortable, dizzy, happy, relaxed or exausted up there. But nothing conects you better whith the huge energy that sprouts from the earth and the sun than being in that fluid. And the more you conect with it, the more you fill whith that special, quiet and peaceful but strong aweareness of being part of something really huge. It´s easy to proobe it when you see a pilot´s face after landing,,, a hummble countenance whith a diaphanous smile in a big, tired red face.
Very well put. For me, it’s that feeling you get when the first burble of a thermal sends a slight shudder through your whole body. And then playing with it until you’re perfectly centred. It’s truly something that has to be experienced. No amount of video can capture the rapture that is soaring.
Thank you, Julia - it was interesting for me, that you have said in this video... Yes, gliding is not a sport for everyone, it does not bring any financial profit for sure but might costs a lot for a person, who would like to go into this kind of activity. So, I also have such an impression, that many glider pilots might be a little bit crazy in some way, not "ordinary" people, who act rationally in their life. At least, it is my impression. Why such a pilot need to risk his life, spend quite a lot of money and time for something, what could cost him his health or even life, bring his family(f.e. one wife, 5 children, a dog) into quite a difficult situation, if something will happen to him/her. Is it rationally? I think, many people might have different points of view at this moment. I have mentioned it just to say, that those people, who are doing gliding, they must love it in some way, probably be depended on some kind of emotions, adrenalin, landscape beauty and feeling of personal independence in the sky, where all your decisions might have direct & quick impact on your life & well-being. I always say to my colleagues at work, that gliding is some kind of training for stress management & decision making process and just because of this I suggest, that my company could probably cover at least a part of my costs relating to this training course important for my self-development;-) Yes, and at this point I would agree, at gliding airfield you might meet sometime very interesting individuals, that is true. Good luck to You and all glider pilots & gliding fans!
Julia... You make me nervous. (Similar to a hen, that I watched when I was young.) - Her eggs was swapped for that of a mountain goose. ... All went well, until the little ones popped into the garden pond. She was frantically going up and down next to the pond. While the "kids" were having the time of their lives. I would say; Something is happening with you. A transcendence in more than one way. (something to do with africa and you are close to finding PURPOSE for your life - do not easily believe me, I don't trust myself ) Do soar... and conserve yourself. (Stay for the long run.) Please keep on making these posts. Even if a viewer (frantically at the edge of the pool "of saoring") can't expect You to excel at it every time. (lately the case) Beautiful 🌻 👋🏻
Juliet Sierra, you have put down into words what I have been unable to put into words. "The joy of reaching final glide...the beep of the vario." Your words, visuals, music, and narration are not just fantastic production, they have the best chance of conveying the message that we long to convey to non-soaring pilots but have not figured out how. The memory of the feeling of setting out on task or sailing out of safe harbor empowers me and raises my confidence for the rest of my day. When we are out of glide from our home airport, we are problem solvers. We do not have the capacity to think about terrestrial problems. We concern ourselves with our ship, our wingmen and our crew. But mostly, we concern ourselves with ourselves - not in a selfish way but in a conscious way. It is not the only way to live, but when we are soaring, we are living.
Hi Julia, super cool video. I can agree 100% with everything you've said in the clip. I'm not a glider pilot myself, I'm "only" flying single engine planes (dropping skydivers in EDND in a C182) but I definitely feel the same about flying as you do. I will have to try gliding next season, your videos and pictures really convinced me to give it a try :-) Keep up your awesome content and greetings from EDTX/EDND. Cheers
Follow your posts for a while. Completely understand you. Been in a Glider once, did FFA Parachute Jumping, had some Sportsplane Fying Lessons, This is also for people who are 'Different" but Totally know what they Can, Cant an Dare. Have 2 Daughters and always tell them, Sky Is The Limit. If you want something, you will get there. Go On Girls.........
Literatur & Poems in german lessons used to be one of my favorite subjects. I’d love to share the words that are in my mind in my native language…. 🥲 but it’d be sad to set such a language barrier
You have captured the beauty of South Africa's Cape province in such a delightful way that I shall forward this video to others, not necessarily of the aviation community. Your words remind me of The Airman's Prayer, by Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee, RCAF, killed in action, 11 Dec. 1941. Happy landings!
Most people are born on the ground, live their lives on the ground and are only comfortable when they're on the ground. Some lucky few (I count myself among them) are born on the ground but are truly alive when they're in the air. I get what you're saying Julia. That feeling we get when soaring is something the ground-huggers just don't understand... and is hard to explain!
Juliet, you did a great job of explaining yourself! Make all your friends from school watch this video. Soaring always seemed like it would be a nice thing to do, but several years ago I took an introductory flying lesson and it was the MOST intensely engaging thing I've ever done. Flying over a ridge just 60 meters or so above the granite and realizing that you can't focus on the ridge but the attitude of the glider is pretty unusual. Yeah, only pilots get to experience that... Soaring will be something to keep one very busy in retirement, it will probably become an addiction! Your photography is great too :)
Another great video🥰, it’s so hard to describe the fascination, the uniqueness, the beauty of gliding, but you did it. I hope and wish, that you reach many young girls and boys.
Thank you for these lovely words! This means a lot to me!❤️🔥 You can also have an impact by sharing videos & content to people and encourage them to go on their first AIRdventure ✈️ 🤟🏽
The closest thing to soaring is motorcycling. To explain soaring to a motorcyclist, I would say it is the same, minus the noise and vibration, and smell of perfume from a pedestrian, or city bus exhaust. But then one must add the beauty of a third dimension, and a larger view to the horizon. I remember in the distant past, a description of light being given to multi-generational, post-apocalyptic cave dwellers, by an adult seeing daylight for the first time. " There was a deafening sound, that I could not hear". On a different plane, gliding is spiritual, the aviation analog to mysticism. Thanks for sharing your joy.
Thank you for your inspiring insight into another sport! I find the contrast quite interesting, motorcycling as a urban adventure - in touch with cities and people. While gliding is quite the opposite, being in touch with nature and being on your own. And still they awake similar emotions.❤️🔥✈️
@@julietsierra the motorcycle is pretty much a solo experience, especially in the rural areas. Check out itchy boots RU-vid channel, where she checks out ruins in Guatemala and Belize. Too bad I can't put a dirt bike in my Piper Cherokee. Motorcycles are much like gliders in that you are a part of the machine. Best!
