Gliding - Junior Worlds 2009

After two fun weeks in Finland, during the Junior World Gliding Championships 2009, we got some nice shots. As a crew member of the Norwegian Team, I had a lot of time walk around with my video camera.
I had a great time, together with the Norwegian team and many others..

One of the best Vids I've ever seen! CHampionships are the best events in Gliding. I've been myself one of that yellow-vested people this year at the German Championships at Aalen-Heidenheim and it was really fun and a lot of action, like you show it in this video. Great work!

It's also possible to rent private gliders, of course. Our fleet at the moment: Duo Discus XLT (2008) Discus b ASW20 LS8 PW5 Ka7 Ka8 SF34 SF25 .... devided on 30 active pilots. Quite nice, indeed. :-)

She's a nice lady. One of the Norwegian Juniors wife.. ;-) There was a nordic gliding competition last summer i Denmark, and she was there.

Most of us just rent them from a gliding club. None of the planes flown by our team was owned by the pilot himself. :-)

@bamsawa Like the others have answered, it depends. However most people fly in clubs, where you can rent the glider for a small fee (at one point it was 10€/h).

@bamsawa It really depends on what performance you want. You can buy a T-21 for £500 and they are great if you just want to toddle around your local ridge, but the prices for some of the higher performance gliders range from £50,000 to £700,000 or a million. For a cheap standard class glider which you can still enter in the club class or regionals I would suggest something like a libelle or an LS1 or LS2 which costs about £7000 to £10,000.
