I participate in the Global Big Day birding every year. I started before sunrise to spot the owls and birded in various places until noon. I didn't bird all day but still managed to find 72 species. Follow along and see my "Global Big Day" birding!
Global Big Day is organized by eBird and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It's a "Big Day" style bird count, consolidated into one amazing day on a global scale.

The early bird get the worm or should I say the early birder gets the birds! You had a great day of birding. Well done on all your finds. Awesome. Have a great day.

Yes birds are most active early in the morning when they need to find food. After 10am most warblers are slowing down and it is harder to find them. Thanks

Busy day with the birds. That Bard Owl was very cool. I often hear owls at night when backpacking.

Owls are always fun to watch and most of the time they're active at night but this one was actively hunting in the morning

You can find a lot of birds if you go to different habitats especially at this time of year.

I've been participating in Global Big Day birding every year, it's so much fun to chase them all day long although at this time I did only half of the day. Next week I'm heading to DC and Cumberland to ride the C&O Trail again. I just love it there. I have lots of travel plans for this summer, actually for each month. I need to check out your latest videos, I'm a little behind. Thanks again for watching 🙂

I saw a painted bunting at Kingley Plantation, I believe that is the extent of their range!

Nice! Big Talbot Island and Kingsley Plantation are one of the most reliable places to see them.

Mornings are the best, most birds around. After 10 everything calms down but then it's time to check out the shorebirds and gulls because they're active all day long.

More than 70 species is a good score! I never did a Big Day (too early and too late...), but Big Days are rather popular in Holland, regional and also national. (Record is 200 species in one day in this country !)

200 species is crazy. My max Big Day was 113 species in my county. If I stay out all day I usually get around 100

Hey Thomas what bird is black and has 2 yellow quarter size dots on their tail feathers that you can see when they are opening up when landing.?
@FollowThomas
@FollowThomas 4 месяца назад
If it's a warbler size then American Redstart has yellow spots on tail and black and orange head and body. How big was the bird and where did you see it?

@@FollowThomas Hey Thomas! Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t receive a notification from your comment. At the time when I saw this bird I was living in the Ortega area. The size of the bird was around the size of an American Redstart but it didn’t have the color variations of the American Redstart, it was all black except for the two quarter sized dots. I also saw a Cedar Waxwing in the same location, along with 19 Cardinal all at the same time, feeding on blackoil sunflower seeds! The Painted bunting i saw inside the Kingsley plantation boundary was spotted just before going into the dense tree canopy!!

@@raymonddriggers only black bird with yellow (and red) I could think is Red-winged Blackbird but I'm sure you would know that one and you mentioned that yellow spots were on the tail.

Hi Thomas, Excuse me for my absence again dues to my filming trip.\ I just got back. Fabulous birdwatching in FL. I do like Spanish moss dangling from large trees. I see the vegetation changes as I drive from NC. It is really good time for birdwatchers. Although PPL mentioned about dry season in FL, I could not find any alligators when I kayaked. The Conservation land is so dry I have ever seen. I like owl turning its head 360degree-ish. It has unique face, too. Of course, You are the expert spotting specific birds VS. I am a novice still not yet cannot even memorize their names hhahahah I was expecting you find nest or offspring? Is that a season? I would love to show YOU what I have discovered in kayak7seas' future films .hehehe. I have a new toy, a camera. So I can capture landscape and wildlife in distance. May I ask what your "TO GO" camera lens is??? OMGoodness, camera lenses are not reasonable, hahahhaah 300MM? I really appreciate your advice.

Thank you for leaving a long comment, much appreciated. Yes this is the time of year when lots of migrating birds are coming through but it's slowing down now. The summer heat is approaching and local birds are busy nesting and winter visitors and migrating birds leaving. Summer is the slowest time in birding so it's time for me to start traveling. I have trips planned for each month this summer and also my month long non-stop travel is coming in August, so lots of fun ahead. I have a 600mm zoom on my Sony RX10iii camera. It does a good job but the lenses are not changeable. I need to get back to your channel to see what you've been up to lately. Thanks again and have a great week.
