Prime Minister Modi's visionary dream of establishing a world-class infrastructure to host meetings, conferences, and exhibitions has materialized into the remarkable International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) at Pragati Maidan. This transformative project breathes new life into the outdated Pragati Maidan facilities, standing as a national endeavor with an investment of around Rs 2700 crores. The vast 123-acre IECC complex has now become India's unrivaled hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), ranking among the world's premier destinations for conventions and exhibitions, offering extensive event space.
Central to this complex is the Convention Centre, an architectural marvel meticulously crafted to host monumental international exhibitions, trade fairs, conventions, conferences, and prestigious gatherings. With numerous meeting rooms, lounges, auditoriums, an amphitheater, and a business center, it serves as a versatile venue for a wide spectrum of events. The grand multi-purpose and plenary halls collectively accommodate an impressive seven thousand attendees, surpassing even the renowned Sydney Opera House's seating capacity. Adding to the appeal is a splendid amphitheater, accommodating 3,000 individuals.
The architectural design of the Convention Centre masterfully blends India's rich heritage with modernity, drawing inspiration from Indian traditions that manifest the nation's confidence and commitment to its legacy. The building's form, resembling the Shankha (conch shell), incorporates walls and facades depicting elements of India's traditional art and culture. Artistic features like 'Surya Shakti' showcase India's progress in harnessing solar energy, 'Zero to ISRO' celebrates the nation's achievements in space exploration, and 'Pancha Mahabhuta' symbolizes the universal building blocks - Aakash (Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire), Jal (Water), Prithvi (Earth), among others.
