I am from Kerala and now settled in New Delhi for the last 45 years and sorry to state that the much hyped Konkan Railway route failed to reduce running time ( it reduced distances, but not time ) because it was constructed as a single line route with more than 90 tunnels and over 2000 small and big bridges and culverts. Even in future, it is impossible to double the lane. I constantly travelled on this route and the so called Express, Superfast trains like Duranto and Rajdhani used to stop long times on unscheduled stations to allow some incoming trains ( local or Freight trains ) to pass. Look at the route map of Indian Railway and see the distance between Kochi ( Ernakulam ) and New Delhi, via Konkan Route and the old route via Nagpur, Vijaywada, Salem. The difference is about 700 km less in Kknkan Route, but the running time is about the same ( mind the number of stoppages enroute.
Our India us taking right decision of launching Vane Bharat or Vande Metro semi Bullet trsin before starting Bullet train because every prople of our country would not afford Bullet train as it's fare is double of Vande Bharat express, so our rural area's people will travell by Semi Bullet trains, China has made a mistake, it launched Bullet trains for it's every corners ofnthe country, asba result chonese poor prople can't affor Bullet trains, so its are going under loss, the most of the chinese poor people are choosing local trains instead of Bullet trains, but our Infia is launching Semi Bullet trains as well as Bullet trains equally, so our Bullet trains will not face loss,
