For China to grow further, it needs to move up the value chain. And China is generally "doing the right things" in re-focus their efforts in high tech enterprises, instead of brute force export and real estate hyper speculation. And the results show. In 2023, China has passed Japan as the world's largest car exporter, mostly in EV cars. In 2023, they can produce 7nm computer chips AT SCALE. And in 2023, they have passed South Korea as the world's biggest Large Scale Ship Builder. And they continue to dominate in green energy sector and biopharma. All these indicate they are building up a new economic structure for further growth.

With globalization, nominal per capita income in all economies will tend to move towards the world normal. China at $12,720.22 is almost exactly equal to the world normal of $12,743.85. Hence there is no global impetus for China to grow any faster than world average from now on. The only way to grow faster is by increasing domestic consumption which is better lifestyle for common Chinese. However, for that to happen, first dictatorship has to end in China. As the speaker points out, China has instead turned to "modern industry" to ensure that an average chinese due to technology is able to produce more than an average world citizen. This is very very unlikely to happen as technology is booming everywhere, not just in China.

Absolutely 💯 Moreover GDP per capita needs to be seen in PPP terms as in India 90% of consumption of disposable Income take place of locally produced stuff, be it food or clothing or things of daily use…

If your view is correct, there won't be any advanced countries which used technology to advance their economies, because they should stay at the normal level GDP.

@@huanghermann5207 You are correct. All countries which do produce above the global average are able to due to either of these factors- 1. Excess capacity built by colonial era loot. Almost whole of Europe falls here 2. Oil, which is not produced but mined 3. Innovation. US and few countries in extreme north of Europe fall here. They are able to do it because of excellent Human Development Index figures which are only possible in liberal democracies. There are no benevolent dictators who are working for the people. There is no country which has become advanced due to manufacturing technology, particularly so post globalization.
