Well I think I can comment from my experience because I owned and carried a G19 as my Duty Weapon for over 10 years and I now own a Glock 48. My G19 was my favorite Glock ever and my Off Duty Gun was the G26 and I had this combo for over 20 years up to my Retirement! As I became Older, now 77 years old, I got rid of all my double stack guns and I was attracted to purchase a Single Stack G43 which I waited for many years for Glock to release a single stack Hand Gun! This has become my EDC and I also purchased the Glock 48 which Has the same dimensions as the G19 but has that slim line single stack design and I also use this for carry at times. Having said all this, In My Opinion, I see very little or no difference in shooting my G48 but I do find it slightly better to handle with my smaller hands and it's lighter weight. I love these two Slim Line Models and for me this was a great upgrade in the Glock Lineup of Handguns and I will Never Look Back!
I too carried & qualified with a Glock 19 for a number of years before I retired from my agency. I never had a problem qualifying but my scores did drop somewhat as I got older. I also have medium to small hands and don't get the best grip out of the holster anymore. The 19 had ended up sitting in it's storage place & rarely fired.......Last year I walked into a gun shop and saw a new 43X(with the dark slide) . Walked out with it later minus 68.00 and the 19. I really like the 43X & have purchased DeSantis holsters for it. The need for high capacity is over-rated in a lot of cases; especially for us retirees but I have a Glock 26 and it's not going anywhere . Also qualified recently in a yearly LEOSA course with the 43X.
17 round mags, 24 round mags 31/33 round mags. Yes, the 19 still matters. Larger outer diameter barrel (beefier parts) contributing to a potentially longer service life, magazine compatibility with others wether professional team members or neighbors if it all goes bad. Both great guns, but one does not replace the other in my opinion.
I run a Glock 43x, stock mags so you’re preaching to the choir. My point is factory magazine offerings tend to be the most reliable, the numbers I listed I. My comment are factory mag capacities in 9mm from glock and if you are wanting more capacity, then (answering the title question) yes, the glock 19 does still matter, if you want the best magazines from a reliability standpoint but want the conceal ability the 19 gives you vs say a 17, 24, etc.
I’ve owned G19’s since the early 90’s. I have one in each generation (well, except gen 1) and some in multiples. Several gen 5’s. I absolutely love the G19. I have big hands and I like to have that size for a good grip on it. I’ve owned and shot both a 43x and a 48. They were nice for carry but absolutely hated shooting them. The grip was waaay to slim for me. Sold them both and got more g19’s.
Well I carry the Glock 48. I was about to get the Glock 19 but I found out that Shield Arms makes a 15rd magazine for the Glock 48 so I was like why by a bigger and heavier pistol when I can have the best of both worlds easy to conceal and a 15+1 capacity? So the G48 is my new carry pistol.
Great review, I am 67 years old and carried a 1911 cocked and locked for many years, but as I got older, the weight of the firearm has been a big factor when it comes to using it as my primary EDC. I recently picked up a used G48 with night sights to replace my HK VP9SK and I love this pistol, its basically a slimed down G19 which I have always liked and much lighter and easier to carry. I now switch between my G43x and the G48 and have a G34 as my range gun.
For your consideration on capacity: with the proliferation of multiple attacker confrontations in the past 20 years, i would say that capacity has become much more of a issue than it has been in the past. Empirical data on confrontations was more of a one on one scenario in years past, but there are many more multiple attacker situations nowadays than ever before. Multiple attackers on home invasions, robberies on the street, car jackings, or even with there being more riots and crowd actions. All of this leads me to make capacity even more important than it used to be, and having a reload is also important (at least to me, as i live in a fairly large city that has seen some crowd situations/riots in the recent past).
I’ve been carrying a 19 going on 10 years. Just bought a 48, I’m now retiring my 19. Shield makes a metal magazine for the 48. The mag release needs to be upgraded when going to a metal magazine.
@@mattr918 I don’t think this is a good comparison as the hogue also adds positive grip retention/ extra friction and that great feeling rubber compound they use. I prefer the feeling of the hogue on all my pistols and they all have one including my gen5 26. People either love or hate the grip sleeves, if you added it to a dbl stack glock like I have then you’re back to square one with the width argument. My own personal preference for all my pistols minus my pocket gun (has a hogue also) is slip on grip, light (usually a tlr), extended mag. Once my setup is together the slimline guns carry much more comfortably for me. 10 rounds is my absolute minimum carrying in any position besides the pocket. I run a standard 365 in that configuration most days and it’s a great shooter, has wonderful feel but I’m faster follow up with the longer slide on the 48. Most of these points are moot though because it’s all about what works for you.
I work security for a private school. Plain clothes, concealed carry, and I carry a 19x. My reasoning is that I believe I would have a 50/50 chance of going against an individual with an AR, so I'd be severely handicapped in that situation and capacity would be an asset.
Great video. I like the way you addressed the capacity discussion. I also carry a 5-shot revolver much of the time and I don't feel under-gunned so to speak. But, it does go to the comfort factor. I think for those who are in the public safety business they view the world differently for all the right reasons. Capacity is king if you are facing a serious threat situation with multiple, armed bad guys; I would not argue that. And then there is the civilian concealed carry group watching these videos wondering what is a more realistic approach. To me the G19 is a work horse. It can be (relatively) easily concealed and yet be practical for all day at the range. The G48, on the other hand, is more appealing to me because it too can fulfill that role and be easier to conceal. Nice job.
I’ve been carrying my G48 for a year now. It’s amazing! My previous EDC was a G2C. The G48 is actually more comfortable to carry. I think it’s the longer slide that balances it well, while concealed. I put the Talon Grip tape on it and it feels great. No more readjusting my grip at the range. Also, I did get the Shield Arms S15 mags and mag release button as well as the magwell. Along with night sights. It’s the best EDC this far
This was a great comparison review. The 48 is a 19 through a meat slicer. The 48 seems to fit smaller handed individuals better. The 19 is dated and many gun makers have passed it in innovations the CZ10c is a perfect example. The19 is still and will always be considered the "iphone gun", you can get anything for it and in 12 different colors! The best carry gun is the one you are deadly proficient with.
A while back I decided to either buy a G48 or a 43X. I eventually decided on the 43X because the 48's slide overhangs the frame so much. This I believe will make the 48 more easily disabled in close quarters due to the slide being pushed out of battery. My 43X is an excellent pistol. No regrets at all. My G19 and G26 haven't been used in quite some time. They both having served me well for years now seem irrelevant.
Because of the recoil spring design your 43X can be “pushed out of battery” just as much as the 48. The 48 is 4.17 inches vs the 43X 3.41 inches length which is marginal as far as concealing yet huge as far as ballistics and recoil control which the 48 has the advantage.
Good review. My first glock is gen4 G19. My second is G48. Love the G48. Feels real good in the hand, trigger really sucks though but an easy fix with a ghost trigger connector. Got a couple sheild arms S15 mags 15 rds and their dedicated mag catch. Only had issues with steel cased practice ammo. I see why glock fanboys like no finger grooves. Wasn't a big deal as I started out with the finger grooved g19. But holding the G48 I see why they like no finger grooves. I have big hands and the finger grooves were never really a problem but after getting a glock without finger grooves, it does feel more comfortable. My G19 is retired to a bedside gun now. Mostly for the wife. Couple 15 rd. mags and a 33 rd mag in the bedside safe. G19 is a great gun. Ugly but goes bang everytime. G48 sexier, slimmer and still goes bang everytime. I carry the G48 in more situations as I don't even feel it there. Comfort is best.
I found the 48 trigger to be a little stiff but after a few weeks of daily dry firing/dry practice it's either smoothed it self up or I've just adjusted to it. Either way I found the trigger time to be very beneficial with that heavier trigger.
I love a glock. The 5th gen sold it for me. In 1 year I got the 48 mos, glock 44 and glock 45. I love the ambi slide release. I use my thumb and pointer to drop the slide effortlessly. Great guns.
The 19 still serves a purpose it is a duty gun 15 round Mags, 24 round magazines 33 round Mags. Also think about after market accessibility 19 has a huge variety of aftermarket while the 48 is limited I like both guns! Again each serves a purpose the G48 I don’t mind carrying as an edc but if I going out to the woods or somewhere that dictates more capacity I’m not taking it. I don’t notice much of a difference carrying both the only difference being the recoil and the grip
@@nikeboi665 that's why you also carry a handheld. Sometimes use of a handheld can make you less of a target and prevent the need for the firearm, as a plus.
The G48 actually has quite a following, especially with the availability of aftermarket extended capacity magazines. If I had to choose one, I agree the G19 wins hands down.
I got a 48 for the concealment but kinda wish I would have gone with a 19 since my hands are big and I have long fingers and my finger is like half way on the trigger. I’m 6’2 and don’t think I would have a problem concealing a 19. Just putting in my experience for people my same size.
I love the slightly slender 48. It's what I roll with everyday. Added a 12+1 extension and a Lasermax Target system. It prints less than the 19, and the slightly thinner grip just feels better to me. Can't stand the two tone..mine is all black.
I recently got back into Glock. I EDC a 48 . I too once believed the more rounds the better.but with age and time I realized if it takes more than 20 rounds you done lost the fight. In most self defense shootings you will not even go through 1 mag so the idea of needing a full military load out is crazy. If live in Chicago,los Angeles, new York I might agree with more rounds. But in the fly over states or gun friendly states I don't see the point. I know several people that still EDC revolvers with one or no speed loader. 19 is a great gun but if you need 30 plus rounds to stay in the fight you brought the wrong gun to the fight.
While I cannot speak on the G19 I can speak on the G48. I EDC my G48 & I absolutely love it!! It’s different from all other Glocks in terms of ergonomics & that to me was the winning decision to buy this pistol. It’s thin it’s lightweight but has a 4” barrel for better accuracy and velocity. I do not even know that I am carrying this pistol most of the time. Yes it’s just as accurate & reliable as the G19. It’s a pistol I highly recommend to anyone looking for an EDC pistol
I agree that the slimline grip isn’t quite as comfortable as the double stack for most of us. I got a Hogue grip on my G43 and it really did make a positive difference in my grip control/comfort. It didn’t hurt concealability at all. I think we should see some thicker/double stack grips with a slim slide and we might have the best of both worlds w/little to no compromises.
Not sure if it’s my hand size or if I have some underlying wrist issues from lifting, but I can’t shoot the 48/43x without pain. The 19 works for me, the 43x works for my wife. More options is always a good thing.
A while ago I decided to add a Glock to my arsenal. As I would only be buying one Glock, I agonized over the best one for me. I ended up with the G26. Easy to conceal, shoots well, holds 10 rounds in a flush magazine but will take any D/S Glock mag up to 33 rounds. While these other Glocks occasionally tempt me, in the end, I'm happy with my G26 5gen.
The G 17 is my go to duty firearm for the past 40 some years. I have carried the same one since 1987. My off duty carry is a G43 with an extended mag. I want comfort with capacity here in South Florida. Questions?
The one thing that I did not like when I bought my Glock 48 (other than the sights, which I traded out for TrueGlo Tritium Pro) was the puny grip texture. I corrected that with a Talon Pro Grip. I also have a 19 but when I carry, it is the 48 with a Shield Arms S15 mag.
I've given some consideration to the 48. And I have to admit I agree with you. And I'm intrigued in the new glock19, but the glock 48 has it's advantages also.
Own many Glocks since late 90s & the 48 is my choice for CCW . I actually shoot more accurate groups with the 48 than full size Glocks because the thin grip allows me to get my trigger finger in right place therefore hitting where I'm aiming at is easy with the Glock 48 & I run the factory 10 Rd mags cause I'm confident it'll be sufficient.
The 48 has two cons in the comparison. 1. Lacks a rail. The MOS version fixes that, sort of. I think Glock should have just used a standard sized rail. 2. Capacity. 10+1 is probably enough, but having more rounds is never a bad idea. Shield Arms mags evens the playing field. The caveat of SA mags is you have to make sure they work in your particular Glock. My findings so far. On the first 250 rounds, 115 gr white box, using 5 SA mags, 2 failure to eject from #2 mag. Second test, 200 rounds 124 gr, 200 rounds 115+p+, twice I failed to seat the mag, no other failures.
Simple … for EDC ? .. the G48 … 19s are great but not for EDC , for most anyway .. ultimately the 19s a lot of weight to carry daily.. but if it works for you .. carry it “
Now that the Glock 48 has the aftermarket Shield Arms GEN 2 15rd magazines available, it does call the relevance of the Glock 19 into question. The Glock 48 now is the same length, same height, same mag capacity, but thinner and lighter.
@@zyzzuschrist3410 The Gen 1 mags were unreliable, if I used a Glock 43X/48 I would have never carried them, however, Shield Arms realllly smoothed them out in the last year with the updated Gen 2 magazines which are known to be very reliable in contrast to the spotty Gen 1’s. A year ago, I would have agreed with you about the reliability difference, but now I’m not so sure!
I'm pretty thin, so CC'ing my 19 is as easy as CC'ing my 43X, though I probably print a lot more with the former. Plus I don't have to go out and spend another $200 in aftermarket mags just to match the factory capacity of the 19. If I gained another 10lbs, I could see where the slim form factor of the 43X/48 would be an advantage, though.
I have both but gen 5 19. The 48 hits at distance like the 19. Carries better. Living in a mag restricted state I won't sell my double stacks but don't carry them since the 43x and 48 came out.
I don't have a P-10S yet, getting them has been tough in our area. I did just get a P-10C and that video will go up in a few days. As soon as my store gets the other, I'm still going to review it. Thanks for watching!

Put hogue grip and streamlight tlr6 on my 48 its perfect for me now backed with my inside the waistband crossbreed holster perfect set up for me only gun that I've carryed every day for 2years before that I was switch out guns and holsters constantly I work 3rd shit lights a must for me I'm a fan of finger Groves too I love the way hogue grips feel running on my ARS too my favorite grip
I have that exact gen 4 Glock 19. I love it and I’m proficient with it. I feel totally comfortable. I moved south and rarely wear jeans, or sweatshirts. The Glock is just too big for what I wear daily but it’s great in my house or with me in the car. My wife confiscated my Glock 43 because she needs a small carry gun and shoots the 43 very well. So I’m trying to decide Glock 43, 43x, or 48. I do have sigs, berettas, and 1911’s but would not carry any of them. They have been house guns at varying times but right now it’s just the Glocks. Not “perfection” but simple and reliable.
Many people here are commenting on what glocks or other guns they trust with their lives. That's fine! In brief, whatever gun you may have in a shtf situation just make sure you are well prepared and proficient enough to handle business when or if the time comes when you have to use whatever you decide to carry. Because it really doesn't matter what you own or carry if you are not training with it.
Been carrying a gen 3 G19 for years. I always been a fan of the full sized pistols and picked up a gen G17, another phenomenal flagship Glock pistol imo. Each of those pistols have their own merits and was thrilled when they took the best of both and created the 19X. That model has been my recent CCW and been mixing it up with a P320/M18 and have the utmost confidence with either or.
I have average to large hands. The grip on the single stacks is harder for me to maintain a good firing grip in a string of fire. Slow single shots are fine.
I have to agree w/you. I wear the same size gloves and G48 just fits my hands perfectly. I've got G21SF, G30, and G19, but I CC my G48 exclusively. Plus, I do use the SA15 mags. Mine work 100%.
@@Seasniffer69 I run a crossbreed IWB holster double clips on the belt for CC. I'm testing a Tacticon Universal Drop leg holster on my Batman Utility Belt. That way I can switch between my Glocks.
Too bad no rail on the G48, otherwise good option with S15 mags. 10 rounds isn't enough for concealed carry. Always carry a spare mag. Look what happened with Eli Dicken in Indiana. He fired 10 rounds.

If you're limited to a 9mm for duty weapon I'd say glock 19 or 17 depending on personal preference. If you're looking for a concealed carry in winter I'd say glock 19. If you're looking for a concealed carry in warmer weather I'd say a 43x. As far as ammo capacity more is better. In my patrol area we are seeing a trend towards multiple armed robbers or hang members with high capacity drums as well as firing rapidly. You are better off having a capacity to do suppressive fire or be able to return fire keeping them away then enough left to take them out as they reload. The one on one gunfight with the bad guy is out the window now.
I world love to get the 48 but I have big hand and they don’t offer back straps to stop the slide bite hopefully in the future they’ll have back straps
I have a 48 love the way it feels in my hands got it for 300 from buddy that was in a pinch I dint think I'd like it I've carried it everyday for a year is my go to now I'm thinking 🤔 I'm going to pick up a 19
At 5'-7" and 150lbs, I conceal the G19 with no problem. Even if it weighed 10lbs, you should still carry it. You know why??? Cause we're MEN!!! And MEN don't complain about being comfortable. We build things like cars and skyscrapers in the heat or cold. We hit 100mph fastballs with freaking STICKS!!! We get hit in football for fun!! We slap bears in the FACE for trying to climb up our tree stands during a hunt. We let the women and children go first while the ship sinks!!! Yep!!! WE DO NOT COMPLAIN about a tiny pistol in our pants! Think about all the soldiers who would push cannons around during battle while getting shot at. You didn't hear them saying, "This is uncomfortable! 😫Wahhh! It's tooooo heavy!!! 😫Wahhhhh!!!". It just didn't happen, you know why??? MEN!!!🧔 💪🤨👍
A woman with smaller hands would prefer the 48 over the 19. I own a 19, 43x, 45, and the 48 is my issued duty weapon as an officer in a Sheriff Department. I find the 43x a much better balanced weapon than the 48. I prefer the 45 over the 19. My wife has smaller hands and for some reason, likes the 48.
I own and love my G48. I carry it alot with 3 spare magazines. It's comfortable and easy to conceal. I do like the G19 and one day will get one. But for now my G48 is one of my most used EDCs in my rotation.
The Glock 19’is number one, the Glock 48 is number two. The Glock 48 has 10 round magazines which Glock could easily remedy, but their in bed with the aftermarket companies obviously. Shield Arms and another company make 15 round magazines for the G 48 which I have a few of and only load 14 rounds in it tho. My Glock 17 and 19 Gen5s will always be the go to hip pistol, my Glock 48 is my conceal/ backup buddy all day.
The question shouldn't be if the G19 still matters. It should be if the G48 is even relevant. The G48 is a gun without an identity. It's like Glock took the worst features of two guns (the G9 and the 43x) and created the 48. A gun that takes up almost the same amount of space in the waistband as the 19 with only 10 rounds??? No thanks. A gun that is almost as slim as the 43x but is less concealable, again....no thanks.
Going into harms way (police, military, camping, etc) G19. My edc is G43 or 5-shot snubbie. If I want 10+1, I’ll carry my G26. To me, the 48 is irrelevant. Ymmv.
The G19 is the best handgun ever made. Debate me if you want but it's true. Sure, there's other greats but if I could only have one at the end of the day, it would be a G19.
In many cases, the answer will depend on how you dress. I carried a G19 in that manner for years with a Crossbreed Supertuck holster, but you need the right shirt size and length to minimize printing. Body size and clothing size have a big impact on comfort.
