I swear she’s like my aunt, she married a white man, barely speaks English with the strongest accent there can be. Short temper also, but she’s funny as hell and I love her, she’s my favorite even though I have other seven aunts.
and the other one where her mother gifts fulgencio joe the family gun and manny a big cross, also her hidden tape and with her first fight with jay, getaway bag, bag with thousand dollars cash, shooting jay on the foot, etc.
@@dexterwestin3747 she should have won something. She was sooo freakin funny in a second language, getting all the comedic timing and nuances right. She deserved a few awards. Would you be able to produce convincing comedy in a second language to the language natives?? I doubt many people can.
What I loved about gloria is that she's the perfect standard for being a gold digger; beautiful young woman marries rich old guy. However, she doesn't necessarily care about the money, and the way she emphasizes family throughout the series (more than the people who are actually blood related) just shows so much about her character
@@charusharma1050 Omg and remember when Claire accused her of being a gold digger in season 1 and her response was "what do i have to do for me to be accepted into this family". The fact she didn't get defensive and say stuff like "I'm not a gold digger" and that the first words that came out was about her family
I really like that in later seasons her understating of English improved and she became more refined. It makes sense that after years with the family her character evolved with them. I’m glad they didn’t just use her character for comic relief.
while her character is written as a bit of stereotype and her accent in the series is clearly put on for comic relief, there were episodes where they showed how shes actually smart--- the one where she complained about having to translate everything in her head to communicate with her mostly English-speaking family, the one where her friend Darlene asked Jay if he realizes how hard it is to be funny in another language, and not to forget, her chess skills!
@elsewhere, Re: "...her character is written as a bit of stereotype and her accent in the series is clearly put on for comic relief...how hard it is to be funny in another language..." My Latina girlfriend grew up in northern Colombia around the same time as Sofia Vergara. Their accents are almost identical, and her quick witted humor is hilarious in both English and Spanish (after she translates it for me). In my experience, 'Gloria' is only a slight exaggeration of the real thing.
Fun fact for all non Colombians out there: The "colombian neck tie" Gloria mentioned is an execution method used mainly during the 50's in a time called "Epoca de la Violencia" it consists in cutting the victim's throat open and then ripping the tongue out through that injury, the name "neck tie" comes from the fact that the hanging tongue looked like a tie
Well emmys and oscars... huh... well.. at least oscar is now giving to black people but there is still a waaaayyyyy to go before they start recognizing latinos asians arabs as human actors
@@phantomtq9143 During Modern Family's run, Sofia was the highest paid actress on television. So, even if she didn't win any statues, she was certainly rewarded for her work.
@@hutch1197that is not reward..that's just payback or just smth she deserved..like Leonardo DiCaprio is quite famous n rich but he deserves that..when he got Oscar that was a reward
Cos she's not a white American...duuuh! Have u not realized that they don't acknowledge other races there no matter how great they are at what they do😢
@@andreaf8404 Luke they never found a Role for him when he started growing up That’s why started pairing him up with manny but it never fully became anything Lily I’m 100% sure they had faith in the actor since they just kept giving her one or two lines Alex they destroyed her character after she graduated from HS Haley post Andy breakup regressed immensely
I understand the problems with the stereotypes being a Latina myself. And I often wonder if I'm laughing with the reason intended in the writers room (probably not bc I highly doubt that there was much of a Latina representation behind the scenes) but I still love her she's my favourite character for so many reasons
well for her character specifically was tailored for her.. Sofia was one of their few picks for the cast. so idk if that makes you feel better or not :)
Gloria: you just tossed a woman aside then immediately you go to the next one? Manny: no I just- Gloria: I ju-ju-ju-ju-just what 😭😭😭 the mocking killed me I love her
Como alguien que tiene español como carrera universitaria, me gusta Gloria. Representa bien la cultura y me entristece que los otros personajes se burlaran de su cultura a menudo.
I ❤️ Gloria and Sofia Vergara in general. I named one of my barbie dolls after her. Her first name is Sofia and middle name is Gloria, after her character on this show. So Sofia Gloria. She's my little bundle of joy 🤗💕
"Feeling over Joe's face' Gloria: "And Joe has a fever and he is sweating very much" Joe: "No I'm not!" Throws water in Joe's face.... I think I peed...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
When Gloria Sings the National Anthem and rolls her R her national anthem is my alarm 3:43 my ringtone. her awesome talented yelling is my text tone is it too much.
