Steve is super intelligent with his vision for SME.. just being a supplier of blocks heads etc.. and letting other build the engines and maintain them is absolutely the right way to go
Steve, i hope you're proud of Kyle, you have an awesome family. He seems to have the passion like you. I promise I'm not a creeper just wanted to throw Kyle some appreciation(you too) keep it up guys!
Loved the last vid. Bummer about Tom's trx and Durango. Thank you for the continued content and transparency! Some people will never understand that mechanical things break especially at this level.(Especially if its a fueling issue, clogged injector etc)
Been there done that it’s ROUGH! Built motors for National GNCC and mx… you can build the best motor in the world, but once it goes out that shop door, it’s out of your hands… I’ve saw it all, incorrect jetting, oil filters in backwards, loose, dirty and un-oiled air filters, pump gas…. We’re either a hero or a zero.
Ya it totally sucks about the cars but he was talking about those tracking devices those are fine and dandy but your shit is gone you need to to stop the theft before it happens have a device that cuts power where car won't start, Matt Armstrong did that rolls Royce mansory edition like 800k but the professional football player that had it had a module put in where u had to to put a certain sequence in for it to fire up even with the key pretty cool that's what these cars need so u don't get them startws
@@scottsmith5623listen sir it's always the engine builders fault, when they tell u say 40lbs a boost max, really means 55lbs of boost lol, no matter what happens it's always blamed on engine builder, I can tell u I have never blamed an engine builder for my stupidity I even called them asked them what they thought they tell u, and u still don't listen to them but everyone that doesn't know that and they get blamed for you windowing the block
My guess is Pro Line put a different cam in that engine & it's what broke. I heard the back 4 cylinders had no valve train movement as if the cam broke.
@@sneezinhatchI have seen cranks yeet themselves out the bottom of the pan (breaking main caps or main caps bolts/studs, I have seen cranks break into multiple pieces as well as breaking the snout off a crank, but I yet to see a crank “shoot out” the front of engine. That all said I am definitely interested in the story and carnage caused by a crank shooting out the front of the engine.
The attitude you have towards this whole racing game is awesome. There's enough out there for everyone to get the engine that's right for them to go fast regardless of whether you're wrenching it or not. That's what breeds innovation.. by creating a quality, tried, tested product that is a huge name in the field.
Excellent coverage thank you team Steve. I have respect for the people that dropped when things were just not right. Like Clay Millican says well that's drag racing.
Hmmm... I don't know anything but it looks like an injector got plugged or maybe the ECU told that hole to run the street injector?? Inquiring minds want to know. Maybe 7 cylinders were hooked up to Slayer in Spotify and 1 got Barry Manilow! 😂😂
It's really not worth the risk owning a new Dodge, especially the performance versions if they aren't kept in garages. They are just to damn easy to be stolen, sucks but it is what it is.
There are a lot of variables in racing. It's great to see an engine builder being transparent about everything when it comes to failures. The only way to improve is to push parts to the limits.
So sorry to hear about Alan’s back injury. I hurt my back on the job in 2018 and have never been the same despite undergoing every treatment under the sun and then surgery. Alan is such a cool dude. Will be praying for his full recovery! 🙏🏻
I have injured my back several times and definitely fought through the trials of the dammed to get my back functioning again and not have to constantly eat pain pills. Obviously I have no idea about your injury. That said I cannot say enough for how much my quality of life improved after finding a good rehabilitation chiropractor, if that does provide you with any improvements you also might want to try finding an “Rolfer an or a Acupuncture therapist”. Lastly always remember if you Rest you Rust, which is another way of saying the more you keep moving the better off you will be. I learned that to feel my best I need to get up and move around for 5 minutes or so every hour that I am awake. Have a great day and a better tomorrow.
I have known several guys who have struggled with that letting off the throttle while releasing the trans brake button. It will become natural for him.
That's what I was thinking or a crack in the intake that made the cylinder run lean or a mechanical failure of a injector, guessing y'all know if the valves are good already
I love the twin blower setup, that would look nice on a SMX but but keep the twin turbos to keep the twin blowers from getting lonely at the top of the SMX block and call it the SMXX
so basically, you just wanted to ensure everyone knew Proline put that engine together and therefor liability is on them even thou they are smart dudes :) i agree just selling blocks etc would take away many headaches for sure
Hey Steve, you dont have to so defensive about your products You build some of the best mills available. Everything breaks, especially in this business. Sending positive vibes from Owen Sound, Ontario!
Great video as usual Love the look inside the engines. Tough to make 4500HP+ then drive down the road. Just amazing at what's been achieved so far. Drag and drive areas for improvement (imo): 1. Have aerodynamic consultant design the ducting on the front of the cars to improve cooling. Some look okay, but others are way less than optimum. 2. Better fuel injection systems. You don't need F1 stuff, but given the investment in these engines, stuff from Lemans cars would be appropriate. Bosch, Life Racing, Motec.. 3. Better fuel injectors 4.Don't run closed loop during actual runs 5. Pneumatic valvetrain I know this is a heavy lift, but given the cubic yards of money spent on getting billet blocks and heads made, it is certainly feasible. Would cut way down on wear and tear. 6. Some sort of alternative transmission. Building one to hold down that much HP then tow a trailer is a tall task and it is amazing the Turbo 400s work at all. Maybe a Lenco with a lock up torque converter.
So sorry to hear about Alan and his back issues. I have the best neurosurgeon in VA and I believe the USA. Please have him contact me for the referral. Congratulations on your recent fast passes!
9:24 good thing for that _instant_ twin screw (wait, quad-screw lol) charger torque.... I've never seen a car rip off the line _off idle_ like that 😅 🤣
Steve, I hope you can get more info on the SMX Viper failure. You mentioned a broken cam. I am wondering how a tool steel cam breaks??? As far a revolutions of the engine per 1/4 mile pass, the number is rather low. Lets say your engine spins 8600 RPM's for a full pass, of 7.0 seconds. (7/60) X 8600 = 1004 Revolutions for that pass, under load. Note each cylinder only fired the spark plug half of that or 502 times. Note to Allen, get well and leave the generator on the trailer next time, or ask for help from the spectators!!! Clark, we love you, good luck!!!
It must be an injector or fueling issue with Clarke's SMX. It can't be air, as that would be identical across all 8. It could be a spark issue, but you should see that in the data logger. He could have been running lean on that cylinder for awhile and damaged that piston, causing oil to leak past the rings.
talk of Tom's chassis. that car is used up, and the entire chassis needs to be replaced. as great as that car is, its a rolling death trap at this point. ive got to question the math on clark's engine "thousands and thousands of revolutions". id bet from the time he lets go of the trans brake to clicking it off in the traps, is right about 1000 revolutions.
Think an injector stuck or miss fired on Clark, a lean burp. Rode alot of 2 stroke dirt bikes & how it burnt the top side of the sleeve. Almost like an intense heat was pushed in & turbulent back. From a lean burp. Dam Clark was on his was to a 6 too. 👋May ask a question to Steve. Has Nelson racing ever been a competitor or a teacher towards you?
6.90s in Alan's car is insane sayn alot buddy 💪💯, all the cars , at that caliber them numbers and all that driving it's hard is definitely not easy so congratulations to everyone & thanks Steve...! 🙏 Keep up everything you guys do 💯👍😊......!
Great explinations Steve and you'd think people would understand that this is racing and things break, its being driven to the limit if people can't understand that then yeah. Thanks for the videos as always Steve hate that you feel like you have to explain that parts break or even the whole 'oh but x isn't going to Steve direct' it's like people want drama for the sake of drama when there is no drama.
I have literally no personal experience with something like what happened to Clark. But from years of watching people torch junk, my guess is an injector failed given its only one piston. Or a coil pack lost its absolute mind, but my guess is it got lean and turned into a blow torch in that cylinder.
@@stephen_crumleyDon't, get wrong. I, really like Steve and Kyle Morris. But, isn't it the same? When, you sit in a several thousand horsepower car, isn't it more about talent, than how much money, your daddy has? Money, can't buy talent. You, can be taught the basics, but talent gets you to where you are.
Steve! Why do you feel the need to defend yourself over part failures? Notice how everyone running a proline engine use a push cart to get to the line? You build/make long lasting, proven, reliable engines that allow people to enjoy their cars to the fullest. You do you, and continue being the best at what you do. The constant defending yourself and your work is off putting. Instead of “for off road use only,” Steve morris engine are “for ON road use only!”
Bise went 263 in the standing mile and held that record for a while with a lsx 427 twin 82s G force face plated T56 trans with stock case, Big stuff 3 in a 4th gen Camaro that made 2000wrhp back in 2012. It barely did 200 in half. But It was a aerodynamic nightmare.
Just wondering if Kyle would share the significance of the Cobra, Hell On Wheels tattoo. My old Australian Army Unit uses the similar Logo. Fond memories. All the best and keep up the great content. Thanks
my guess is an injector problem went lean I assume that spark plug was destroyed. Maybe a lien burn condition cause the porcelain let go obviously that’s just a guess you’re the pro.
