@@cgt3704 Don't be too optimistic about that in the near future. North Korea hasn't fallen yet. Never underestimate the capability of some Chinese people on eating sh*t.
A heartfelt thank you to your service. You and many domestic helpers are the unsung heroes of Hong Kong. Without the contribution of thousands of foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong, the city and many families will not enjoy the prosperity now.
The uk had to give hong kong to China as it was written in the treaty after the opium war that the uk would control Hong Kong for 99 years, but due to the Chinese civil war it was extended (correct me if I’m wrong with anything here, this is coming from the top of my head)
the chinese followed the treaty signed by qing cause it suited them they dumped the indo-tibetan border treaties to expand their claims on parts of India.
I live in a remote province in mainland china, Tai Wan and Hong Kong are the hope of our nations. the last free land. thank you Hong Kong people for you struggle, glory to Hong Kong, revolution in our times!
When HK creates an anthem that bops almost as hard as the USSR, you know they are determined. EDIT: 2 years later, and the replies are still a live dumpster fire.
The situation was different. The Japanese were more brutal than the Hong Kong police. Don't want to sound rude but to compare the protests are nothing compared to the War Against Japan. However, I hope Hong Kong does see China respecting the Joint Declaration of 1984.
I am Korean. When I was 19, I went to Hong Kong and almost got shot by mainland police. That song symbolizes not just Hong Kong, but the fight against dictatorship in the free world itself.
In the meantime, SHAME on Justice Poon and the Hong Kong courts for banning that song. Since a friend of mine and rival from my university days, Susanna, is from Hong Kong, to ban "Glory to Hong Kong" is an attack on her people.
I think it is very interesting and amusing how this anthem satirically incorporates the very first line of the Chinese National Anthem: “Arise, ye who would not be slaves again.” Under the very Chinese Communist Party that claims to free the slaves of oppression, Hong Kong remains a slave. But under its own sovereignty, Hong Kong will never be a slave again. Glory to you, Hong Kong!
Its an insult to them in a way, noting their own hypocrisy but turning their tyranny into a cry of freedom. It's similar to the US when the British made the song Yankee Doodle to mock us for thinking we're all fancy and mighty, so we started singing it and now it's a famous and American recognized song.
This is the preeminent struggle for liberty in our time -- Hong Kong was the world's freest country not too long ago, standing in stark contrast to the most oppressive and murderous regime in human history, which now seeks to crush it out of spite, as the freedom of Hong Hong is a symbol of defiance which they cannot tolerate. To Hong Kong'ers: you must win, or become slaves. It is that simple. The precise amount of tyranny that you are willing to endure will become the amount that you suffer - and then some more.
The land belongs to the China. I understand that Hong kong wants independence from the current regime but the land is still Chinese. You can be independent country and proud of Hong kong but why would you want foreign power to rule over your people?
A major victory for the movement, because it strongly affirms the general public's distrust and loss of confidence on their government and the police force. A beautiful sight to behold.
The district council handles local town size affairs, like housing, public facilities and services, funding, roadworks, tourism, transportation, etc. I know it seems like it means nothing (compared to LegCo where they pass legislation), but since the pro democracy camp are essentially in control of the District Council, they can still utilize that power to win more support from the opposite camp.
And also, the pro-Beijing government and their allies had always been under the illusion that the protesters are just the minority of Hong Kong, that the public does not support them, which was proven wrong by the election results.
It took us more than 20 years to get rid of dictators, and we have been getting rid of other dictators that tried the same. If we did it, you all can do it too! Respect from S. Korea!
@Golden Eagle *decolonized. Also, so the military generals who refused to listen to our voice of democracy are somehow DECOLONIZED US, from what? Japan? China?
@Golden Eagle OP is talking about the time when South Korea was ruled by a dictator, Park Chung Hee. This was long after Imperial Japan and the Korean War. Do learn some history.
홍콩의 국가 정말 듣기좋네요. 홍콩의 민주화 응원합니다. 홍콩이여 영원하라 The national anthem of Hong Kong is really nice to hear. We support democracy in Hong Kong. Hong Kong forever from s.korea
Thank you so much - from a Hongkonger. The rugby sevens national anthem thing in South Korea 2 days ago may have been a coincidence, but please know that Hongkongers are still fighting for freedom silently even though we can no longer protest (so many Hongkongers have been jailed by the CCP government for protesting for democracy in 2019). We hope that there will be a day when we this can be our official national anthem!!
Came here after the watching the recent play of Hong Kong Rugby. As a Malaysian, I hope Hong Kong achieve their freedom one day. This anthem really good and sentimental.
Democracy in Hong Kong is no longer something we take for granted; it has become a thing in a memory, and Hong kong is just becoming a city of china, not a international hud. However, the spirit of the 2019 protests and the desire for democracy and freedom in the hearts of 7 million Hong Konger will never be forgotten and will reign forever. I await the day when the true glory reigns in Hong Kong evermore. Glory to Hong Kong ❤ From South Korea 🇰🇷 ❤ 🇭🇰
It’s been 4 years… I am a half chinese half british girl, I grew up in hong kong and it hurts to think about, but it’s also empowering to listen to this. I moved to the UK to live with my dad due to covid and partly the protests, and I haven’t been back since 2020. I’m young, so none of this was my choice, but I’m glad I’m here, but simultaneously so sad to think about Hong Kong.
@@bazle64 seeing those hongkongers waving their colonizer's flag disgusts me. I am starting to doubt if they are trying to be independent or go back to being colony.
When HK becomes it's own independent country as prosperous as Singapore This will be it's official state anthem I cannot wait to see the day when I see Hong Kongers singing this freely and happily
@@TKDragon75 perhaps just like how "unity" is a foreign concept to you. Throughout European history, peasants got better lives through Magna Carta, Parliament, etc. Throughout Chinese history, peasants got better lives through the establishment of a strong and unified China.
What a beautiful song born out of a beautiful struggle. I hope this song plays so much all over the world that the Chinese govt. cant go to sleep without hearing it. I'm American.
I wish the very best for Hong Kong. I love how they remembered the baltic way, that stood for freedom democracy and peace. It's the same situation, the balts wanted democracy and independence from the ussr, now the Hong Kongers want the same thing but from China. Stay strong Hong Kong!
Richard Yang The UK can’t because that will be going against The One country, two systems agreement and that would give China more Excuses to change what Hong Kong currently have.
@@thesithlord1019 the treaty that allowed Britain to even keep Hong Kong expired, alongside Chinese pressure the UK just had to cede. The people of Hong Kong were quite happy at first: however when the CCP began to slowly oppress the Hong Kongers all hell broke loose So It was more like a deranged homeless man with a gun forcing her to hand over the baby at gunpoint
@Umos I agree as a Brit. My personal opinion is to grow a large British military presence near Hong Kong, set trade barriers to stop all trade by sea going to China and political sanctions on China. This will cripple the Chinese financially and threatens conventional war, we need to show a back bone to help our Hong Kong brothers
THANK YOU! Many people don't understand that UK's negotiating power with China was decreasing fast, we're lucky to even have 50 years to taste liberty and freedom. I'd honestly rather have Hong Kong under British rule, which is even more ironic since I'm INDIAN
@Umos We didn't have the power to prevent china, unfortunately We couldn't have not handed over hong kong because china would have invaded HK if we didn't and it wouldn't have been an invasion we could of kept back sustainably since china would have had the supply lines, so defending HK would have required us to invade china until we had a self-sustainable chunk of land. If we invaded china we would probably have the international community against us.

I was born in China and had been there for more than 25 years. Then I moved to western country and now have been here for another 6 years. I could fully understand why Hong Kongers need to fight for freedom as I know what different will be if they kept silent. I will always support these brave people. Fighting to the end and glory to Hong Kong!
Colin Innes But in my sight Hong Kong police force is red gestapo and help their police state government press opponents. They are terrorists themselves.
I support Hong Kong so much, this is so sad the protests are dying out! Same as in my native country, Belarus!!! Hopefully there would be protests again! Don't let your nation forever be in tyranny!
Its so depressing watching my home being destroyed! I was born and raised in HK but have left and it really sucks knowing my home will never be the same. This song is amazing and makes me really proud!
USA democrats are trying to take away American freedoms including speech religion and assembly and the USA democrats are puppets of china. If the democrats win then the USA will be Hong Kong 2.0.
As a Chinese American whose mom was born and raised in Hong Kong. I stand with all my brothers and sisters who stand for the rights of those in the HK. We should also continue speaking our native language, Cantonese. 🇭🇰
@@susannguyen6234 Actually there are more expressions and words in Cantonese as it is more of a spoken language rather than a written one. But it boils down to personal preference and to that I respect your claim🙂
honestly UK should never have given up this colony. the ccp must fall if the rest of the world is to be free and safe. This war on sensemaking, on freedom must be won at all costs
to be fair. britain didnt know china would become a communist superpower in the future. when they took hong kong, china was already a frail dynasty in the brink of collapse
What happen if many Hong Kong police and their family are infected with Corona virus? Many Asean countries agree Hong Kong to be an independent country someday! (from Singapore)

i really love how there's that hint of britishness in the instrumental to remind people of "colonial hong kong", when hong kong was still part of the british commonwealth. i'm a hongkonger and i stand with hong kong! 👊🏻 🇭🇰
