I love all of your videos they’re so informative. Could you tell me what settings you use for the slate coaster on the Aura? I’ve been trying to figure it out but haven’t had any luck yet. Thanks. 😊

Hello, Thank you for you kind words. We truly appreciate them! As far as the Aura setting for slate, we used: Speed: 100 Power: 5.5 Passes 1 LPI: 270 We didn't test a lot of settings, so we don't think these are the best settings, but they did work, and for the simple art and text we were engraving, they looked pretty good. Have a great week! ~Steve & Janet

Thank you for doing this. I am regretting purchasing the aura. How does the speed compare with the xtool M1?

We have not used the XTool M1, but we are looking into the speed differences. We hope someone in this community will have experience with both. Thank you for the question.

Can you cut 1/8" plywood glowforge proof?
@Flemingoriginals007
@Flemingoriginals007 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your question. All of the 1/8th” proof grade plywood has an engineered wood core, which means it is MDF… so, yes you can cut it, but you should not on a GF Aura. According to Glow Forge customer service, it will degrade your optics over time. Check out this video for more info: ru-vid.com1YnolmUam3U?si=Qg0bNzpSK4JzsQVz

There are widespread issues with the Aura, mostly an alignment/accuracy issue. I've had two units and both have it. Let's see how the replacements do.
@Flemingoriginals007
@Flemingoriginals007 10 месяцев назад
That is disappointing! Please let us know how the replacements work out. We are curious… the alignment/accuracy issue… is it when you are first setting up the project, or is it a problem not following the same path on multiple passes? Thank you for taking the time to comment!
@lovebirdcustom
@lovebirdcustom 10 месяцев назад
@@Flemingoriginals007 Thanks. It's the issue where it doesn't follow the same path on multiple passes. They tell you to clean the rails, etc., but I've had it do that immediately after a cleaning. In my opinion, the issue is caused by the side "rails" or whatever the black transport things on the left and right ride forward and backward on. They're flimsy plastic, so any variation can interfere with that motion. And they're also the tops of the passthrough slots, so any thicker material in the slot (even within allowable spec) can also alter the height of those rails.

Got a new Aura from local craft store for 40% off. Sorry I bought it after two hours. Could not get past the "Scanning" and "Calibrating" part. Love the concept but I am returning it to the store today as it would never fill my laser engraving needs. Also you must pay a monthly fee to use it.

Would the glowforge aura be enough for a startup small side business? If business takes off, I’d eventually upgrade
@Flemingoriginals007
@Flemingoriginals007 10 месяцев назад
Would you be doing only laser products? If so, the slow speed will make it highly unlikely. We work on painting a batch while other items are cutting, but it is a huge challenge. We also have other products we can work on. Also, it depends on what you are making. We can make earrings relatively quickly, but our signs take a really long time. We also make pillows, which we cannot do in the same space as the laser, so we really need something faster. However, the Aura has helped us feel more confident with lasers, so that is a huge perk of this machine. Feel free to let us know what you are planning in general (you don’t need to share your exact idea) 😃, and we will gladly share pros/cons and help if we can.

A very poor choice ... cheaply made, low diode power, slow speed, wifi dependent, monthly fee. The only good think I can say about it is their great customer service ... you will need that ... a lot! Any 10 watt laser engraver would be a better and cheaper choice for you.

This unit is not designed for production. The max speed on most diode units is up to 10kmm /m can go higher but has detail and power issues after that. This unit cost far to much not to be top of the specs. If you can return or do many other cheaper options can do better. Might have to learn new program but might be worth it in long run. 10w are very common and can get 30w for about glowforge price or a set of a 20wand 10w for better production.
@Flemingoriginals007
@Flemingoriginals007 10 месяцев назад
Right, if they want to do full laser production, the Aura is absolutely too limited. However, many crafters want the ease of not figuring out the settings right away, and that is what they are paying for. Many are making only a few items with the laser while using their cutting systems to make shirts, hats, cards, and so on. They may resin tumblers or make other items and simply want to add a few earrings, ornaments…to supplement their craft show products. For those crafters with small or micro businesses who do not want to hassle with the settings learning curve or spend more this may work for them albeit slowly.
@youeladamas7840
@youeladamas7840 10 месяцев назад
Yes if you’re willing to stay in the glowforge eco system ease of use comes with their scan and go. The learning curve is not what it was 5 years ago or back in the k40 times. Glowforge or not one is going to have to learn their system for the best quality and savings
