Thank you for this video. Very helpful and encouraging :) How do we know what Grade proof material to pick when using something that is not a GF product ?

Proofgrade is the name of Glowforge materials but you can use materials from other vendors. Some cut and engrave using the same proofgrade settings and others you can test the settings yourself but the easiest way is to join the GUG Facebook group where a spreadsheet of materials and settings is available. Using a vendor frequented by others means someone else likely has the settings already figure out

Thanks for watching! Just FYI, this is a bit older video and using the GF without the crumb tray is easier now thankfully. Congrats to your niece! I believe the font used here is call Buttercup. Could possibly be Magnolia Sky. Both are pretty options :) good luck!

You mentioned that the max would be .5 inches. I have a piece that’s 0.68 inches :( will it still be possible to engrave on this?

You can by removing the crumb tray. Here's an easy ruler you can make to help know how high to raise your material once the tray is removed community.glowforge.com/t/no-math-focus-ruler/39522

any reason why you need to remove the crumb tray anyway ?

Any item that is over half an inch you have to remove the crumb tray or it will hit the laser head. I did it on this project for the purpose of the tutorial.

Since it's technically less than 1/2", have you ever tried engraving the hanger with the crumb tray still in?

Right, I didnt have to remove it but I did for the video and yes, I still do remove it every time. With the new set focus tool it is just as easy to remove the crumb tray as it is to use it with it in. There is no math involved in calculating any more. So I remove the crumb tray for hangers bc its easy and it gives me more room to maneuver around. I am protective of nothing hitting the print head so I would rather have more clearance!

@@LadyCrockettCrafts I'm nervous about hitting the print head on mine too, but it almost makes me more nervous to remove the tray and do the measuring, so thanks for your helpful tips! I'm excited to try it this way now.

@@beheidiful oh yeah, be careful removing the tray. I open the front door first then slide it out. But no measuring at all if you use the set focus, Sooo much easier 😁
