GlueTread Sidewall Repair - we put this repair on a 40" Nitto through everything we can throw at it 

So basically super glue rubber cement and a piece of rubber from old tires got it thanks for the tip homies

The basics make sense. What doesn’t make sense is when the accelerator is sprayed on the outside of the repair. Superglue type adhesives bond very quickly with isopropyl alcohol, which is my guess for what the accelerator consists of. The alcohol also gives it a much more durable bond. To take full advantage of the adhesion you need to apply it on the inside of the patch just prior to applying to the adhesive area. That process that I just outlined wouldn’t have peeled back after your first repair. I’ve been wanting to try this with alcohol and loctite super gel. It’s a cyanoacrylate based adhesive that flexes while maintaining the bond. I have a 3 inch tear on my spare for my rig and I’d like to salvage it. The cut is only rubber deep. The other layers appear to be intact.

If this patch took that kind of beating off-road, I think it would surely work on a street commuter car. DOT "non-approval" could just be an attempt to protect tire manufacturers sales/market share.

You could fix that hole with tire plugs, I've never seen a sidewall cut that small when rock crawling.
