This is a great Video! I have been setting Kerry Blue ears for over 20 years using this method. For the last 10 years I have been using a hair weave glue made by Proclaim. It is inexpensive and very gentle on the skin. It can be purchased at most beautician supply stores. Prior to using that I used a fabric glue (Jiffy Sew) which worked well but some pups has some skin rash from it.
We did the same for my Min Schnauzer pup. Our JRT has prick ears, our GS's didnt stay UP, so I watched vids how to help correct my Min Schnauzer's ears. Shes 13 weeks and in the teething process. Fingers crossed for this pup of our. You know what's funny. I just got my son braces to correct his teeth the same week we glued her ears. My son was in more pain than my pup. Maybe braces are more cruel than gluing pups ears.
Dear negative Nancies.... if your kid had crooked teeth would you not get them braces? It’s the same thing... And we have all these beautiful dog breeds today because of the hard work and dedication of those who breed and show these animals to the standard...
@@techno1602 some breeds have signature ears, Irish terriers tend to have ears that flop down. It's "ear training". It doesn't hurt the dog. We ended up not doing it on my dog but her ears fold over anyways. 🤷♀️ It's mostly for show.
this is so awesome info.. I had a wirefox terrier of 11 years I just lost a couple of moths ago... I never had to tape her ears they layed perfect.. I just got another wirefox and her ears are not standing but are trying to she is only 12 weeks old can you tell me how long to leave them up until you re glue them again? and something that will take the glue off.. thanks your video is great...
How does the dog scratch the inside of his ear if it's itchy? It seems like my dog would try to scratch off the glue and potentially damage his skin or hair. I want to do this but I'm scared he woud hurt himself trying to get it off.
@@satinspringsarabians I came to find, you don't! It's a latex mess. Luckily I used the tufts of hair, so I cut the ears free. The method worked, but it is going to leave a mess behind. I imagine a short haired dog will shed it off pretty quick, a double coat like mine could turn into a matted nightmare if done wrong!
With my pup I've found that the glue naturally comes off as the hair sheds and grows out , but if you're that worried about glue some vegetable oil and a flea comb work great if you use a small amount
I brought my pup to a new vet who I think tried to pry them open, at the ends of both ears there is a bald patch on his skull under where the ears where clued to. Is it normal or did the Vet screw up?
Our terriers have not been hurt by ear gluing. Cruel? No. Necessary? No. But then again, we also have braces put on our children’s teeth, largely for aesthetics.
Did the dog pull away or look distress? No it did not. No pain or even discomfort for the animal. If you put braces on your kid's teeth are you being abusive? And braces do hurt.
@@carolstuart3615 don't get me wrong i think gluing ears is fine, but your point of whether it hurts or not and using braces as a comparison is faulty. Braces is dental health where im pretty sure this is just cosmetic.
@@davidbeckett5823 pure breeds have specific standards and making sure your dog is as close to that standard as possible allows them to compete at different levels of confirmation , a lot of breeds specifically breeds that need to be taped or cropped are super prone to infections, and ear infections are one of the most dangerous types . There's also cosmetic taping and gluing that is done to make a dog look less scary or keep their ears out of their way when they're doing their job
I just got a dog from a breeder who glued the dogs ear with super glue! We had to get the glue removed in the vet by taking several layers of skin shaven! Be careful what ur teaching people!
It is no more abuse than using a collar or leash on a dog. Or a harness. In fact a harness that doesn't fit is painful. Gluing ears doesn't hurt them at all. Did the dog look distressed? No it did not.
@@carolstuart3615 Dogs do not show pain like we do unless it's bad. Dumb comparison gluing and dogs being on a leash. Being on a leash can save their live. I don't think gluing a dog's ears will save their life.
