what others are referring to on procedure is having the trans up to temp between 80-122 degrees if i remember correctly. also you should be checking the fluid level with the engine running so that fluid is circulating and all components are full. without doing so, you are getting false readings out of the weep hole and potentially running the trans low on fluid
Exactly! I overfilled the trans slightly (by 1/2 qt.) When the trans reached 104 F (the middle range) I opened the Oil Level Check Plug , after running out, it started to drip and I installed the Plug.
No gasket change? Thanks for the video. Why didn't you film the filter change? I know you said it poured ATF all over the place but we wanted to see that!
Your engine should be running when you are doing the level check. If it isn’t running your level won’t be right. I just wanted to point that out. It’s part of the procedure. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it is how it is suppose to be done.
Yes, typically vehicles have a transmission that have a dipstick under the hood. You do check it while it’s warmed up and running. This vehicle does NOT have a dipstick under the hood. It has a fill hole on the transmission that you open up and the oil is to be flash with that Filler hole. After it’s warmed up and you’ve run it through all it’s gears. I am by all means not a professional mechanic. Did that service about three years ago and it still is running great.
Yes, you may be right. This was only an informational video. I am by all means not a professional mechanic and I went off very little information I had and that’s why I did a little video. I figured other people were trying to get it done also. All I can say is I’ve been running for three years since that video and it’s been running great. My truck now has 152,000 miles on it with no issues. I have also learned that if your transmission is already having issue’s, a service probably is not going to help, In fact, it may make it even worse.
GM says every 45,000 miles. When you take it in for a transmission service they don’t always change the filter. They just suck the fluid out and put new fluid in. That’s why I wanted to change the filter in this video.
@@sparkysbackyardgarage8324 I just bought one of these trucks- 2015 GMC Canyon 4x4 with 118k miles on it. I know on older cars you want to avoid changing transmission fluid because it could make the transmission slip. Understanding that GM’s recommended intervals are for “heavy” use, and these vehicles are still relatively new, should I be worried about pulling the pan off and doing this job?
Go ahead and enlighten us! While he skipped over the specific temperature range needed for verifying the fluid level, I don't see anything wrong with what he did.
@@blacksaxcam the procedure exists to ensure that it’s done right! Since you made reference to the temperature I suppose you are possibly aware of the procedure? If you are, then surely you know there’s other steps that have been missed/possibly not shown or addressed!
