Please hit the thumbs up! GM A-Body Drag Racing Stock Front Suspension and 4 Link Instant Centers Explained Slicks and Radials with full details to get your A-Body launching at the drag strip or the streets! And we close the loop with the first video, • GM A-Body Stock Suspen... so we ensure the front and rear suspension are working together!!
Subscribe: ru-vid.com...
This video focuses on setting up the GM A-Body front end for drag racing and high performance street! Camber, caster, toe in, upper and lower controls, steering box, bump steer and rag joint warnings are all covered. Then we wrap up this video with the rear suspension video with specific 4 Link instant locations for small tires with tubes, without tubes and Radials. This video ends with how I grew up street racing with my dad. It is a neat story and helps you better understand how this got in my blood, even in diapers in the garage with my dad!

Here is the front end settings and mods to tie together the 64 - 72 Rear Suspension video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NgJqJqgA7oY.html and then I cover actual 4 link instant centers for slicks and radials! The GM A Body cars absolutely can retain stock type suspension and chassis components, and with the proper mods and chassis tuning, they can lay down some strong ET's and plant the tires on the launch! Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!!

Brought back memories of me and my dad building hot rod trucks as a kid and going street racing with him. Mom would get aggravated and he would say I'd rather him be there to see how to do it correctly rather than do it with out seeing the safer way to do it and wrap it around a tree or worse. He quit racing a few years ago but he now lives vicariously thru me racing. And my son is completely obsessed with race cars now. Family traditions and values are why I love this sport.

Thank you for the A-Body videos! I have a 67 Chevelle - Stange (dana) 60 with a spool and disc brakes/global west drag control arms/coil over vikings at all corners/bmr cross braced trailing arms/manual shift reverse pattern built TH350 with transbrake/1350 ujoints/ported & balanced 383 sbc with solid roller comp cam 580 lift/dart pro 1 heads & manifold/digital msd with progressive nitrous controller. Motor made 517 on the dyno before we installed it. Currently (as of 2021) running a 250 shot of juice and run 9.9 @ 133 with a full interior including stereo & speakers. I have been playing with the suspension based on your previous videos over the past couple of years and they have helped dramatically! Wish I could bring the car to you to get dialed in but I am in SW FL near the Bradenton Motorsports track.

Good compliment to 1st video. Yep giving away all the secrets. My brother and I used washers behind the retaining washers for the upper control arm bushings on his 65 442 in 1971. A lot of other tricks too. Everything then was made by hand right down to the ladder bars that worked with the stock control arms on the back. That car took off so hard no one could believe it. Our Dad and uncle were early 50s drag racers. My Dad taught us a lot. I'm really thankfull and I'm glad you appreciate your father too. Like the stories. Credit where credits due.

I just picked up a 70 lemans, it was my niece's bracket car for 10-12 year but has been sitting in storage about 10 year now. basic setup is a SBC/glide/9" with a roll bar & basic weight reduction, it ran low 12's @ 105, so nothing crazy. After watching this I know I need to go through the suspension. I will be referring back because a lot of info is in this and the rear suspension video. I really appreciate the information!!!

Another great video Kevin! Enjoyed the story at the end... I'm sure you are getting tired of my fbody questions but watching this one has me concerned about the front end on my car. I have removed the sway bar on it. Do I need to be looking into roll center for my setup. If so maybe you can do a little deeper dive into that in a future video.

Thank you Kevin I've been watching your videos for some time and totally enjoy them. I have a 69 Chevelle Big block car that I bracket race. I have installed QA1 double adjustable coil overs front and Strange double adjustable coil over conversion rear with tubular front A-arms. I have installed a S&W double adjustable ladder bar kit in the rear. In your opinion would I be better off making the mods to the rear suspension you describe here and make it a triangulated four link? Thans in advance for your answer and I look forward to watching more videos.

@KevinWilsonSBC 2 года назад
Thanks so much, John! I appreciate you being publicly subscribed to my channel!! For bracket racing, unless the ladder bar setup is having issues, which should be fixable, I am not sure I would go through all the trouble. S&W makes good stuff 100%! Having said that, the right mods and right components applied to the A-Body as discussed in this series will absolutely work! Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!!

@@KevinWilsonSBC Thanks for your reply, Kevin I'm not really having any issues it's just the deal where you always want to make it faster and I thought with more adjustability that might be the case. Thanks again for replying and I'll keep watching for your very informative videos. Keep up the great work.

Great video again Kevin! How about a recommendation for a street car (GM-A body automatic) making 450 wheel hp on street tires with a 3.42gr.? I'm currently at IC of 68" 8.3" from the ground. Just looking for a ballpark IC location, as I only go to the strip three times a year for fun. This is a low 12 sec car with actual standard street tires. My mph is ~118. Oh, great ending and nice story!!
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC Год назад
Not sure I would change anything unless I better understand the problem you are trying to correct. Likely a shorter IC would definitely help at your power levels which means the rear upper bar mount needs to go up or the front upper bar mount needs to drop. Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!

For my info I notice when you change the angle of the lower control arm you change it at the rear end. I have no adjustability at the rear end but have adjustability at the front of the lower control arm. So I should be able to raise the front and do the same as you lowering the rear of the control arm? Thanks for all your info
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC 2 года назад
Yes.. effectively the same. On a side note, the lower the bar position is on the rear end it does generally help drive the chassis a tad harder as it is further from the rotation pitch centerline, but now we are splitting hairs. You got, move the front mount point up to add more bite (separation). Go fast, go straight! Be SAFE!!

How much of this relates to a GM B body we are currently building a 1981 4 door lesaber street car (pre 96 is pre smog for diesel in California) 6.0l 450hp th400 3.73 9in 3000 stall foot brake car at about 4200lbs 29inch tire do you think it would be asking to much for 13.50s or so from this set up

Sorry i havn't commented on this till now. Still trying to wrap my head around all of this. I've had to watch a couple times. I am trying to keep this car stock appearing in some aspects. Could a guy run 1" taller upper ball joints, delalum bushings (upper and lower), and an offset shaft... with the stock control and get close to your front end goals? Global now makes a bump steer steering arms to work with ball joints. To give you an idea: low mile 70buick gs aluminum head 466(lighter than bbc), 4k lbs with fat driver, 590hp, 150 shot. Front: qa1 hybrid coil over 350lb springs, no swaybar. Rear: urethane, stock boxed lowers, stock f41 sway, stock shocks, 28x10.5 MTs. 12bolt posi strange hybrid clip eliminator axles. Fresh Moog stock springs. 150lbs i think. None of this an end point. Just what is there now for reference.
