Sir Simon you could make a DVD called "Harry, the H-Pawn" and then you analyse all the best victories of this pawn in the history of chess and all of the common strategy of this pawn.

Great idea! I loved Simon's H-pawn series on chess.com.

Simon, this variation needs a name. I'm thinking something like...'Simon's Royal Defense- Dutch your Bishop' What say you? Thanks for explaining your thought process clearly to us!

I love to watch these - I always pick up things from watching real games that more "focused discussions" seem to miss. That said, sometimes you go far enough with the "what if" portions that I lose track of the actual events of the game. But thank you millions of times over for sharing chess. I've played for years but still struggle with even being "decent". There's just so much to it that I get extremely overwhelmed and do stupid stuff. Way too many lost queens and playing from 6+ points behind...

Loving your vids, especially the background to the opening and competition: it really adds gravitas and context to the technical side of the game. For all your "mockney" bluster, it's good to hear the inner English gent with gems like 'crash bang wallop'. Terribly violent of you old chap, must you get blood on the chessboard? This is imported oak.

Thanks again for another educational upload. I started playing chess again as an adult a year ago, in part thanks to your videos. Subsequently started a chess club and deeply in love with the game.

This is how we want to see you winning - convincing attack, dutchlike (you play what you preach) and we learned a lot. "Harry" the h-pawn if you go on like this, there will be a TV-series like "Harry and the knight of horror" or "Harry and the unholy bishop".

22:25 that sounds very sensible, not like you though! Keep on with your amazing work pal, showing the world that it is still possible to achieve wild, beautiful and also successful fun over the board. Thank you!

Great and interesting opening. Been playing regular GPA for a long time so decided to test this just to get new ideas. After 4 games in Lichess vs. 2500-2600 opponents, 2 wins 1 draw 1 loss. Pretty good so far. ;) It is very easy to play this system

Simon, your educational stuff is great. I am always surprised that you dont make more of them. I will definitely try this one against the Sicilian. Now I have recently taken up Classical Dutch after studying your DVD and would be delighted if you analyzed more CD games of your own. What do you think of 6...Ne4 -instead of d6- in the CD mainline?

Would love some more videos focused on openings, especially moving into the middle game where the position has become closed. Often my opponent and I are fully developed and some ideas/plans you should have at that time would be very useful!

Simon's opening DVDs typically dovetail into the intricate plans occuring in the middlegame positions.

Simon Williams you are calculating tons of things at the same time so it is totally acceptable. By the way in the same position, Qf3 is also winning. 1.Qf3- Qb6 2. Bd1- c4+ 3. d4- Qxd4 4. cxd4 -Nh4 5. Qg4#

First try, 10 min game on lichess.... had a really nice game --- 1. e4 c5 { B20 Sicilian Defense } 2. Be2 Nc6 3. f4 d6 4. Nf3 e6 5. O-O Nf6 6. d3 Be7 7. c3 Bd7 8. h3 Nh5 9. Qe1 g6 10. Be3 O-O 11. Nbd2 a6 12. Ng5 Ng7 13. Rd1 Qc7 14. Qh4 Bxg5 15. fxg5 b5 16. Nf3 Ne5 17. Nh2 d5 18. d4 cxd4 19. cxd4 Nc4 20. Bxc4 bxc4 21. Ng4 Nh5 22. e5 f5 23. gxf6 Rab8 24. Rf2 Ba4 25. Rdf1 Kf7 26. Nh6+ Ke8 27. g4 Nxf6 28. Rxf6 Rxf6 29. Qxf6 { White wins on time. } 1-0 (he lost on time but the kingside attack was fab)

There was a win actually. At 27:43 after Qxf4 Kg6 d4 Kg7 Qf6 bishop covers h7 so king has to go to g8 and then Queen goes from f6 to g5 to h6 to h7 with slight advantage.

Dear Simon, what is with 2. d3 so that I do not decide so early if to place the bishop on e2 or g2 and I can do this later depending on what setup white chooses? Is this equaly good or are there disadvantages?
@sleepy4x
@sleepy4x 7 лет назад
Thank you for the quick answer. After 2...d5 I find exd and after Qxd5 then Nc3 not so bad. In my database the killer move is 3.Qe2 with 91% (out of 6 games). :-)
