I'll leave this here if it helps anyone. My power tilt on driver seat of my GMC Terrain wasn't working. The fix is to test the switches on the side of the seat. That can be accomplished by prying off the side cover and checking continuity on the switch bar. That bar of switches is very cheap, under $20.00 so it might be the first to replace. The power tilt is in the back of the seat. You have to remove the hard plastic cover on the back of the seat. That will give you access to the motor for the power tilt. If you can find or rig up a 12Volt battery you can connect it to the positive and negative leads on the motor. This way you can test the motor independently of any wiring or switches. In fact you can use this technique to check all the motors (forward/backward/tilt). It turned out in my case it was the switch. The motor tested fine. Search driver side GMC Terrain switch and you can find it for cheap on the web. Hopefully this info helps someone else.
Just wanted to say "Thank You!" Thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge, your tutorial really helped me save lots of dollars! Again thanks, May God bless you!!
I tried this a few times and initially failed until i noticed the gauge of wire i had was too big so i used some simple speaker wire same process using a drill battery AND IT WORKED. Dude you’re insane and I appreciate it. 👍👍👍👍
The switch on my old vehicle was borked, and is no longer sold online! This video saved my butt. I was about to drop over 300 just for a dumb switch. THANK YOU
Dude thank you !! My son has been driving my avalanche with his knees to his chest and tonight I fixed it in 10 minutes with your battery trick !! Thanks again ! 😂
Thanks, it worked for me, found the cables of motor to be used, 18v drill battery , 16awg cable , plugged everything except one to be used as a contact switch
Did you have to plug the black and red wires to the negative and positive on the battery at the same time? I don’t really do electronic but I’m having this issue where my seat moves all ways but won’t go back and now it’s stuck on the steering wheel lol
probably need to check the seat memory setting ! being a yukon denali , has extra options such as seat position memory just my thought on the situation!
Just did this with a 2005 tahoe and a Ryobi 18 volt battery. I was worried about using an 18 volt battery on 12 volt electronics. But now we can get in and drive comfortably! I'm guessing the proper fix is a new control panel? Hooked up to the battery, the seat goes forward and back. For now its unplugged so we don't forget and get stuck again. Thanks for the help!

Do you have any information on a 2000 Buick Park avenue I was vacuuming the floors and Iran the driver seat all the way forward vacuumed the back seat area and then moved it all the way back to do the front seat area and now it won't move forward or backwards and you can hear itmake a slight clicking sound when you try to move it forward and backwards and I can feel up front underneath like it's trying to move any information you have or a video would be helpful
Hello Dirtbiketay, I have a 2006 Trailblazer that has a stuck seat and does not move forward or backward. I have already watched your video many times, which I greatly appreciate, but I am not good at electricity in cars but I want to solve my problem. I don't understand in the video how you solve the problem, you just disconnect the rear harness and reconnect it and that's it? Or do you use the drill battery to solve the problem? I hope you can help me, they already told me in three workshops that I have to buy another seat. thank you so much. Pepe Garcia
i have a similar problem. my right track will move a little back and forth but the left track won’t move and the rod that spins won’t move. didn’t have any problems until i went to put the seat back on. would this work or does anyone have any answers?
i can't get under the seat cause i need to change the seat belt and the switch works for moving the seat back and forth but the seat doesn't go forward or backwards i need help
Will this work on a 2000 Lincoln town car? I hear grinding but, won't go back after my wife drove it. The switches are located at the door, not the actual seat.
There should be other motors that control the other movements its just a process of finding them or look online for an exploded seat frame picture that'll help locate them.
Thanks for your video but one advice I will give you is that you can sew the leather seat so it won’t keep breaking 🥰 that’s if you still have the truck

Helped a ton finding the plug at the back to jump the seat. In my case powering that plug moved the seat, but my switches won't move the seat. Iv swapped out 3 switches from the wrecking yard and no dice. Any ideas ?
I literally just got done changing my 04 Yukon Denali heater core,,,couldn’t sleep a night thinking I wasn’t going to be able to put it back together,,,but yeah horrible engineering
My dang knee caps are hitting the dash someone short drove my Burb now wont go back and it a trip when you go back on the button seat moves fwd Update took the wire off the front of the seat to the motor than plug back in started working again
If it making noise like its spinning the motor but not moving the seat it possibly not engaging the rails to move the seat forward and backwards. Possibly teeth on the motor aren't engaging?
Mine is having the same problem motor is making noise but not moving the seat. Best conclusion I can come up with is the motor isn’t getting proper grounding
Dirtbiketay, if that’s the case, what’s the work around for that? My seat is stuck in the forward position. It was in the middle of its range, while trying to figure it out, I moved it all the way forward, now its stuck. I looked at passenger side as it was moving forward and backward, I can clearly see the rod moving. When i do the same to the driver’s side, I can see that same rod trying to move in both directions. Seems bound. Was your seat motor making noise, engaging? And, when you jump the switch, do you do both at the same time? Or one at a time? Many thanks. Been 2 months of eating the dash.
My drivers side moves back and forth. But, don't go up and down. Ans passage there's the opposite. It goes up and down but, wont go side to side. Its so annoying. ..
@@dougbates5899 my drill battery doesn’t look like his, just has two metal flat surfaces. Can I just use electrical tape to hold the wire on the metal tabs?
So this didn’t fully work for mine. Well let me explain,Mine was completely stuck, I would hear the motor kick in and it would move about 1/8 inch back and forward. I check all the fuse, cables, the tracks and everything all the videos and blogs said to check. But still no luck. So what I did I went to my local picknpull/junkyard, etc.. and find the same model (2002 Escalade) and use the method show in this video to move the seat forward and back to remove the seat (it was about $46)and came back home got my sawzall with a diablo medium metal blade it was about $17 and removed the seat cushion and after that use the saw to cut out the olde seat frame out enough to be able to take out the 4 bolts. After that put the new/use one in and bolted it down. Hope this helps someone Tip: check the seat work before you remove it and buy from what ever parts place you go to (using the method show in the video) Tip 2: is you can find a good in shape seat in the junk yard just take the frame and use your better seat cushion and seat back (seat back has 3 bolts 1 in one side and 2 in the other ) And Good luck Just little bit of hard work and patience
Some scrap grounding cable I had lying around. I recomend using a small enough gauge wire to get into the pin to make contact with the connector like 12 or 16
Hello.. great video. Hey my 07 Yukon which is the same, my driver seat won’t go back or forward but I can hear the motor making the noise just don’t move. Also Passenger seat the back rest is all the way down and won’t came up to its normal position.
We have the same year Yukon Denali and the seat is the same. I dont have a battery that looks like his, so I would love if we knew which ports on any drill battery to use. Not sure if it is a specific pos and neg that needs to be used.
@@PhilsPhilippinesParadise yeah if y I can dnt buy it new, go to any Yunk yard nearby and get it, also try to lube or grease the motor rail that can causes your switch goes bad due to the dust rust debris on the rails the motor gotta work harder and that ll affect your switch too..
I have a serious problem with my 2014 GMC Terrain drivers side power seat. At random times I go out to the vehicle and find the drivers side power seat has moved all the way forward and all the way up, AND the battery (new) is dead. You cannot predict when this is going to happen. The local GMC Dealer has had the vehicle in their shop off and on for over 15 days.. They cannot find a problem. Recently I was getting out of the car with the key in my pocket and I noticed the drivers seat moving slowly forward and up. When I got off work sure enough the battery was dead. I took the car to my non dealer mechanic and asked him to disconnect the switches to the seat, so it would not have power to move. I went about a month and a half and last week I walked out and found the seat all the way forward and all the way up with the battery dead. How can the drivers seat move with the switches disconnected ? I am baffled...
I would think the first thing to do is to disconnect or replace the seat switch and see if the problem stops. The switch may be leaking power to the motors!
I know this is over a year old, but did the dealer reprogram the drivers seat module ? I would have reprogrammed the drivers seat module and if not resolved replaced the drivers seat module/reprogram. Many times the modules get corrupted and need reprogramming. Example if the seat goes forward while you manipulate the switch to go backwards and vice versa. Many times it is not a physical switch issue, as many people believe to be.
@@rileypup5959 This is the most likely cause based on the description of the problem. Worst case, replace the module and that should take care of the issue.
